Playing scales the normal way is wrong after a certain point. Yes it's true. Thankfully I'll teach you how to practice them in different ways because I am amazing. You can always count on Brandon for all of your guitar troubles.

This has really motivated me to practice scales. I'm so motivated that I'll watch a few other videos about scales, get bored, play some skyrim, finally pick up the guitar, play half a scale, get distracted, start playing some songs I already know and lie to myself that tomorrow I'll practice scales.

what really impresses me is not that you know this stuff so well you can teach it with ease, but how smooth you are when playing, you mentally know, and your muscles know exactly, when exactly and how exactly to play almost everything on the guitar. And when you learn something, you can apply that muscle memory to that as well. that's freaking incredible.

For me, I think the most effective fun way to play scales is get a fretboard diagram showing all the notes of a scale on the fretboard, get a backing track in that scale and then noodle until I memorized all the note placements. And then I can instantly play in any 7 modes of that specific scale

Thank you for all of this. I was hitting the exact brick wall of progress, and now I have a bunch of new things to try. People overlook the importance of finger dexterity and simple practices that strengthen it. I started on bass so it’s one of my biggest hurdles. I didn’t even know it was possible to do all these different ways. And I really needed to venture from the “boring” scale positions cuz surfing the neck is another thing I need to work on. Thank you

Hey man i really have to thank you for simplifying this a little for me. I mean I ve been practicing to learn the positions of each and every scale all over the fretboard by practicing on each scale separately and by having the guitar fetboard written on a notebook and showing myself the notes of the scale i want to familiraze with it . I think its a decent way but you just added to my routine new ways and I have to thank you. Keep going mate practice never stops.

Good stuff. Practicing scales/modes, arpeggios, double stops, octaves, etc. are just tools in your guitar playing toolbox. The one I like the best in this video is enunciating the note as you play them. Like all exercises, this will prepare you for the years ahead. One exercise of my own, which is advanced, is instead of sweeps in a single sweeping motion, alternate pick them. Yeah, it is difficult but once you master it you will be able to alternate pick anything.

You know Brandon, it's refreshing to hear someone being brutally honest (( and hilariously funny at the same time )) , there is an old saying that says (( life is tough - it's tougher if you're stupid )), you could probably also say (( practice makes perfect )) -- I think I've heard that somewhere... Thank you brother Brandon,, You're killing it Man, and I think most of us are loving it. Once again, it's refreshing to hear the un-glazed truth in how success is obtained. Keep safe and never take prisoners, they hold you down and eventually will turn on you.

I've been doing the 3rds thing for years without realizing that's what it was. Going to start working on the others (4ths, 5ths and 6ths) now. I also do one that's a 4 up, 3 down kind of thing: C-D-E-F-D-E-F-G-E-F-G-A-F-G-A-B, etc, and then descend 4 down, 3 up. I don't exactly understand why, but it's a fantastic finger strengthening exercise as well. I spent a little while devoting an hour a day to scales and, doing straight runs, 3rds, and the 4-up, 3 down thing and it didn't take long at all before all that stuff was permanently locked into my brain. Totally worthwhile...
