Hey.... A tip for lining up anamorphic lenses (this might work for the laowa 2x adaptor)... Take a torch with a single LED or a phone Led light and point it into the lens... Then use the horizontal lens flare and adjust your adaptor so the lens flare sits level with the bottom or top of your frame or desqueeze black bars. I use this technique all the time with different brands of Anamorphic lenses and it works fine.... Those laowa lenses look very nice indeed🎥🙏🎥🙏🎥🙏🎥🙏🎥

1.33x looks really tempting for any filmmaker. For those who shoot without help, the newer anamorphic with autofocus might save the day. i hope to see more autofocus versions soon🤞

@@DamijinMyndz the V-AF cine lens from samyang are autofocus and expected to release an adapter that makes it anamorphic as well. Sirui is expected to announce their first AF anamorphic lens.

Interesting lens behavior. There is definitely a place in cinema for low lens flare and selective colors when it does. Thanks Brandon

Did you use an APSC crop mode when using this on your A7S3?

Love your work as always Brandon! I have been using the Great Joy's for documentary work and the lack of flare (especially the 35) has grown on me in that genre. You have the bigger window into the story that anamorphic gives you-- but most of the tool marks (flares, coma, vignetting) aren't a distraction into the "real world" story.

The footage looks amazing. I’m itching to watch a Brandon shot feature length film.

I’m so surprised at the results with the 1.33x adapter. Hands down the best character and stretch I’ve seen from any of these budget anamorphics. I’m surprised not many are talking about it more. Is the adapter that finicky to use? How is it in comparison to the aivascope in use? The aivascope was a pain in the A** imo even though the image was great.

I’m not understanding what modes you used to shoot with these on full frame. Did you crop in post or shoot in a super35 mode?

How do they compare to the sirui night walkers?

Interesting review! I tend to shoot a lot on 35mm-85mm on spherical lenses. Which one of the laowas would you recommend to cover these focal lengths?

Hi I love the video what would the appropriate 1.33x adapter for the lenses, I may get a 27mm

You have to use the Laowa 1.33x adapter shown in this video because it’s made just for these lenses.

Do you lose any screen real estate when using Laowa on full frame cameras like FX-3?
@BrandonLiUnscripted9 ай бұрын
You lose the sides of your image because the de-squeezed image is wider than a 2.39 CinemaScope aspect and you need to crop in to fit.
@electricdreamer9 ай бұрын
@@BrandonLiUnscripted I see. Does that make a 4k image a little more like the size of a 1080p? Or a little larger than 1080p?

The Sony has Super35 which would have matched the lenses better. Having 2 lenses mounted together is a recipe for problems. I have the SLR Magic 2X and it has the same problems you are pointing out. I don't see much advantage to using 2 lens groupings. A 2X lens should be just one lens for best results. The good news is that I only had to pay $350 for the SLR Magic NEW, on sale at B&H. What breaking a 2X lens into 2 parts does is let the lens manufacturer make a product that is defective and get away with it. Why would anyone want to buy a 1.33x anamorphic lens in the first place. It is harder to produce a fully functioning 2X anamorphic lens that it is to break it up into 2 lenses. You are being taken.

How does it perform versus the Sirui lens?
@NicolasWaldvogel11 ай бұрын
from the looks of it, they look wayyyy better imo. More anamorphic characteristics in the bokeh and edges of frame (probably mainly on full frame and with the 1.3x adapter) but most importantly much more elegant and subtle flares and less plastici/digital looking.
