Welcome to BRATISLAVA SLOVAKIA! During our visit, we try delicious Slovakian food and experience the best things to do in Bratislava.
Having ancestry from the Moravian region of Czechia, and the former Czechoslovakia, we were so excited to visit #Slovakia. We’re both used to eating kolaches in Texas, so we were excited to try authentic Moravian Kolaches and other traditional Slovak food in Bratislava.
We tried a LOT of Slovakian food and drinks, including Moravian Kolaches, Bryndzové halušky (Slovak Dumplings), Bryndzové Pirohy (Pierogi), Strapačky (Sauerkraut Dumplings), Medovina (Mead) and Slovakian beer. And, we put in the miles exploring Bratislava’s Old Town and the best things to do in Bratislava.
We visited The Blue Church, the Slovak Pub, the Slovakian Presidential Palace, Michael’s Gate, the Main Square Christmas Market, the UFO bridge, and finally the Bratislava Castle. So, consider this your Bratislava Slovakia travel guide for the best things to do in Bratislava! And, don't miss the Bratislava Christmas Market - it's one of our favorite Christmas markets in Europe!
We hope you enjoy our #Bratislava vlog, and as always, we’ll see you in our next video as we Keep Going Places!

The cannonball in the wall was put there on purpose, as the buildings that were damaged during that siege were exempt from taxes. I think there were up to 9 of these cannonballs in Bratislava

I missed the Blue Church when I went to Bratislava last year. 🙁 But it's nice to see you point of view! I only spent a halfday in Bratislava to see the city for myself. Now I realized, it wasnt enough. 😅

What really stuck us on our visit was the run in past the Soviet style concrete city of apartments over the bridge and then you're greeted with the most quaint old town. Such a contrast and oh so worth a visit. Plus you get to find a host of bronzes in the most unusual places. Loved the video though got to say Thanksgiving without turkey is, well, different. Bring on Vienna.
@KeepGoingPlaces

Haha, sorry we didn't go find a turkey to roast in our Airbnb oven! I gotta say though, Ashley roasted up some delicious veggies, especially those sweet potatoes. We noticed those large concrete apartments too - definitely a contrast to the old town. We loved our visit to Bratislava and hope to do a road trip around Slovakia one day. Hoping to get a Vienna video out this weekend! -Jordan

Hi guys, so nice to see you visiting Braťislava . I’m born and raised in that area , now living in North America. It’s great that you’re exploring your (distant )Slovak roots. I’m going to take my kiddo to Slovakia so he can do the same. I know people say Slovakian, but it makes me cringe a little every time I hear it … the food is Slovak, not Slovakian … I am Slovak, not Slovakian ..and so on. A bakery is called a pekáreň. Pastries are pečivo. Cakes are Koláče ( plural ), koláč ( singular) … koláči(s) is weird, it’s Anglicized not Slovak. So I guess that in Texas they just call all pastries cakes. Your lunch looked delicious .. But pierogi aren’t Slovak. That’s not bacon that tops the halušky .. it’s škvarki , in US it’s called crackling Strapaté is messy hair .. so, strapačky are messy hairy dumplings (😊fun fact ). Loved the sight seeing … makes me a bit home sick .. and hungry! Cheers

I would like to refresh the memory of some Hungarian friends and remind them, that in Bratislava then known as Pozson, 9 Hungarian Kings and 8 queens were coronated in the St.Martin's. church.I know, that it is very hard for some Hungarian people to come to the grips with the fact, that those times are over since the collapse of the Austrohungarian Empire in 1918. And now, the Slovakians are the Kings in their own castle. And moreover, that's about time in over 1020 year history of Slovak people, always ruled at first by Austrohungarians, later by German natzis, and after that by Soviet Union's communists, and now, finally since,,1993 extracted themselves from the Czechs, and now, after so long Slovakia breaths freely, as an independent nation and I have to say, that it"s about time....... SLOVAKIA, I love YOU more than YOU will ever know. With love from faraway Canada. And God may bless YOU now and for eternity!!!! Bye! J.G

We were driving through Texas today and remembered this video. We stopped in Lubbock and found kolaches but they were more like pigs in blankets than the ones you showed here. Did we find the right thing? We liked the ones we had, but they didn’t seem that related to what you had lol.

Let me reply as I'm from here. We are affected by covid. This video must be from some time ago, as we didn't have Christmas market in 2020. Don't travel now, as we are on lockdown. Also once it's safe to travel, definitely come here by spring time :-)

You’ll be fine… most young people know some English , and many can converse quite fluently. Even if you don’t feel confident with whatever Slovak you’ve learned, use it anyway, most people will warm to you for the effort and you’ll probably have some great conversations.😊

In general, people will treat you well, if you treat them well. If you find that most people don’t treat you well, maybe the problem is on you’re part. Your choice of words “managing Slovaks “ sounds pretty condescending.. nobody likes that. Remember, you are a guest in their country, try a little courtesy.
