Everytime--EVERYTIME I watch this little girl...plead with her own mother to love her...it breaks me into tiny little pieces... When she came on stage crying even before speaking one word, I knew THIS poem was HER story... Simply a talented beautiful young lady...

I'm dark skinned, my mom redboned. I'm scared to even imagine what this felt like. She's strong because she was able to express herself.
@morgancurry40988 жыл бұрын
That wasn't the point of the poem.
@MsWhit20138 жыл бұрын
+Morgan Curry that's how I took it. What is the actual point?
@morgancurry40988 жыл бұрын
+whitley coco She used the favorite "color" anology because she wanted to be her mother's favorite color. This is a girl crying for her mother's attention because she hasn't been there for her, or her siblings. She was saying she would change into her favorite color just to receive a hug from her mother. The color in this poem had nothing to do with being light skin or dark skin. She would change into any color just to be shown affection. If that makes sense.
@MsWhit20138 жыл бұрын
+Morgan Curry oh wow. I never saw it that way. Thank for that!

Thanks for explaining this because I was trying to figure out was this written by her expressing her feelings towards to her Mom or was it a poem about being actually neglected?! I get it now I felt that it was so heart wrenching..

Ms. Utopia Or maybe they just don't understand it? Maybe she spoke too fast for them, or they aren't audibly inclined and the imagery confused them. People judge so harshly what they can't understand. Even if it's someone else simply saying, "I can't understand".
@bri86346 жыл бұрын
Ms. Utopia why don’t you try explaining it instead of belittling people who don’t “get” it. Maybe some people don’t understand poetry as fast as others.
