How do you think it compares to Octopath? Everything I've seen so far makes me think it's a lesser jrpg but I'm unsure.

@@Highwind452 I finished the game the other week and now I can say for sure that I liked Octopath just a bit better. BD2 has better character interaction, maybe a better job system, a card game that a lot of people adore, and it's a bit more cohesive in storytelling, but having said that, I like the areas, 16-bit 3D aesthetic, music, etc. just a bit more in Octopath. Both games have great battle systems so you'd have fun either way, but I feel Octopath doesn't ask its players to grind nearly as much, which I like. And Octopath is just more charming overall...it will stick with its players longer, I think. Both are great games, either way.

Literally came here for this. I do Japanese most of the time, but the English dub had so much more character to me, albeit sometimes a bit too heavy of tropes. Elvis was most certainly the highlight.

There are accessories you can get to stop exp gain, but they are quite a few hours into the game. But you can keep the items for new game+ and do personal challenge runs.

Mostly because the youtube video is rendered at a higher resolution then the game itself.

Honestly after playing for a bit it the characters actually sort of feel better in terms of looks

I'm okay with the designs on gameplay, but such as in old FF games, they should have used more detailed models for cutscenes

I miss that website since so much stuff came out of it like HAWP and AVGN

How? I'm genuinely perplexed by how generic their costumes are and how bland their faces look.

This for a digestible RPG. PKMN For longetivity, persona 5 striker for a repetitive but good experience

@@Terron29 I may be biased, loved the previous titles. As a matter of fact, the first Bravely Default was what made me fall in love with jrpgs. As a 34 year old man, I always neglected them. I thought games like FF were stupid, taking turns hitting enemies and stuff. But then I tried BD1 and I fell in love with the combat. I went back and played so many jrpgs that I wish I didn't miss. I even went on a Final Fantasy playthrough. So I have a soft spot for the franchise that made me fall in love with an entire genre lol

I am 32 and I can relate to that but only in terms of tactical rpgs, I never really enjoyed them until literally the start of this year I made another attempt at final fantasy tactics, about 4 hours in something amazing just....clicked. I got it. Now I am obsessed, I played the war of the lions version and I have tactics ogre coming in the post as well as that project triangle strategy demo downloaded. Your in for a treat with many great jrpgs buddy. Make sure and try suikoden 2 as that still holds up so well. Dont dismiss persona 5 either despite how crazy and anime it looks. amazing game. fantastic combat.

Not really if you combine jobs properly. As a matter of fact, game is a joke if you combine the right classes. Thief + Berserker Godstrike + Fury + [that ability that reduces moves cost to 0] Lawd have mercy. I had to change that class because I was smacking every boss in 2 moves.

The mobility aspect is a valid point but the art style looks gorgeous in 4k on steam . Just sayin' ...

I love how they're proportioned in the official art and I feel like it would fit the heavier elements in the game better at times.

You're right but I think it was intentional this time around.

I reject the use of terms like “nostalgia” and “comfort” for this style of game. It just is what it is. A lot of people, like yourself I guess, never even played the older games in the genre. Make no mistake, there is nothing “old” about this game. It’s just a style of game that they don’t make as often because the way to sell more copies of a game, any game, is to make it more “pop”. That is to say, just like pop music, you eliminate all barriers to entry and infuse it with trace amounts of everything that’s currently popular. The director of FF13 said he was looking more to Call Of Duty when he made the game than he was any other RPGs or previous FF games.

​@@JazGalaxy I've played/beat every mainline Final Fantasy except FF5, as well as a couple Dragon Quests. That's hundreds of hours of that style I'm accustomed to. It's old and comforting and people use those terms because they don't make them as often, as you said. The biggest budget they get is a new console Dragon Quest, and that's probably justified by the series' Japanese sales over anything else. I hope BD2 is successful enough to warrant more of its kind. Traditional JRPGs. But as a paying customer, I personally just cannot justify $60 when I could get a digital download of some classic PS1 or SNES title of the same DNA and charm. Got a big backlog after all.

@@starlight137yt Yeah, the game starts with no voice selection sadly, but the english voice sounded ok. But I like to play the game in the original language. If the game was chinese I would choose to play in chinese. And Elvis japanese voice is good too.

Hate to break it to you, but it probably wouldn't look much different if they put it on PS5. It looks the way it looks because that's the style they wanted to continue. See World of Final Fantasy. -Bloodworth

Well first off it would be "shat on" and secondly, different people have different opinions. Go figure

there are regular fights in the first 2 hours of BD2 that were more challenging exciting and interesting than anything in FFXIII

The combat system is the opposite of generic, even though it's been done a few times now in the previous Bravely games.

The director of Final Fantasy 13 said he was trying to make a game that was more inspired by Call Of Duty than it was previous FF games or role playing games. So you like action games more than RPGs. That’s fine. Most people do. But understand what’s happening here: Bravely Default is actually an RPG and you are unfavorably comparing it to an action game with some RPG-like elements.
