Synopsis:
Cheng Shao Shang is a young girl who was forced to grow up alone after most of her family had to leave to fight in a bloody war. Thus she becomes stubborn and untrusting. She fends for herself in a town populated by people like her, who have been left behind by the war.
One day, a talented and powerfu general named Ling Bu Yi comes to the town - and falls in love with her at first sight. He resolves to marry her, even though it will cause him no end of problems if he decides to pursue this union. She also warns him that she doesn’t trust him, and that her stubborn personality might not be suitable for the wife of a general. His dialogue whenever it concerns her is so simple but well placed, pregnant, intense, and has a finality to it that rattles the heart. It's like a water droplet falling into a long stilled chamber pool. When he commits it's all-in and forever. Which always bring me back to the dinner scene with his father, the princess, and everyone else; where he tells them he has yet to find the woman he will commit himself to. Swoon worthy even if it was a putdown. 🤣🤭🙊🙈🤦‍♀️🤤🤣

Later on, during their engagement banquet, her mother implies that members of royalty are allowed to enter wherever they want without obstruction. If that's the case for the Old Princess Consort, I think it would be even harder to stop the Crown Prince from entering.

If the crown prince becomes king..the kingdom will without doubt get destroyed ...he is very biased and has clouded judgement..he may be kind hearted..but without much brain( so far)..he is not at all willing to take any suggestions from others and does stupid idiotic things in name of family🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️..

I think the other princes are obviously hostile and snarky - the crown prince may be sneakier as he is in the current top position- but with rivals around him - the princess needs to get it through her ego - that he does not like her at all. Not even a little bit.

I was a little shocked at the brazen way Wang Ling spoke to Shan Shan. She totally abandoned any proper behavior and stuck out her claws. Both she and the princess were both so mad and jealous to see ShaoShang there. Totally ruined their plans . 😂😂 I admire the way Shan Shan put her in her place. Crown Prince doesn’t know what to do, Princess Yecheng just looks whiny like always, Sanjian smirking at it all and LBY annoyed because they ruined his plan. I think this was when LBY realizes that he needs to make a move for ShaoShang before Sanjian or someone else steps in.

Although parents speak the truth , & yes it's painful for own parents to belittle their own kids , it was for her own good , knowing how high class PPL live by , their standard of living are far different from how their daughter life style is , ..then again general long loves her as she is , knowing she's honest , daring, kind, caring , & don't allow bullies to get away 👌

I don't think it was painful for Shaoshang 's mother at all. In the book Niao Niao doesn't really forgives her, there's no reconciliation. She respects her that's it.

I mean theres a lot wrong with your mindset. Ling buyi loved her because she wasnt like those other girls who where fighting for his attention and had fake personalities. Niao Niao’s character was original it wasnt fake it was real. The other girls pretended to be “white lotuses” which was a common phrase back then to describe somebody who acts nice but really isnt. i also dont think they had the authority to call her out like that. Its not her fault that while her parents where gone she was mistreated by the family. She wasnt even taught how to write. So of course shes gonna be “uncivilized” and her education is lacking in etiquette. But shes smart for everything else. Plus lets be honest being a general isnt considered prim and proper a lot of times the environment is considered vulgar. I highly doubt it matters how your etiquette is. Niao niao did not live in the palace where you were watched continuously. In the palace such behavior was important to learn. However she started getting taught by the empress. Which really shows a lot about the difference between her actual mother and the person who she considered a motherly figure. Her actual mother did NOT know how to handle her. She assumed violence was the only way to get her to reform and be molded into her liking. She was already abused while they were doing general duties. If anything she needed a loving and nurturing person to guide her. Notice how well she did with the empress? Somebody who was kind hearted and wasnt the type to whip you like her mother did. Her mother got mad for her ability to be able to scheme and fight for herself. But news flash that behavior was learned due to the environment she was around growing up. I mean i dont know if you noticed but she had an obsession with pancakes/bread. Also if you noticed how she was dressed in the beginning it was that of a servant. Even one of general lings assistants was shocked the lady was dressed like that. She learned to scheme in order to survive. If anything its interesting how she still kept her good nature but yet knew when to fight back and how to do it.
