Back in the 80s I stayed in Rio for nine weeks. Even then you had to be careful of scams, including those in five star hotels. I tried to buy stamps for some postcards from the front desk and they told me they would stamp the postcards with their machine and post them for me. They never arrived at their destination. Also when I was there carjacking in the tunnels around Rio was a thing. A beautiful city in probably the best geographical setting anywhere in the world, but with an undercurrent of criminality that is never far from the surface.

I totally know what you mean about the air-conditioning sickness I get that shit almost every year in Aruba cuz they put the unit right over the freakin bed and it only has two speeds high and higher lol the trick I found is to try and sleep with all windows and if you have a balcony or terrace to have the sliders open at night and that kind of mellows it out but idk how people sleep with those Things blasting the shit out of them with cold air all day and night! Lol

Ben , you would find a way to get sick in the nicest spot on earth ! Love this trip . You can't film the people I know in Cleveland either . Its the camera , if you had nothing valuable , you would probably be safe in the hood . Can't wait for the next one !

Rayban makes sunglasses with high quality cameras in them that allow you to film pov style videos. I think that would help you greatly in situations where an expensive camera makes you a target. You would still need your main camera, but for adventures out and about being able to film some quick content in a place you don't want to hold a camera would be a great idea.

Spread aloe vera gel on your skin that got sunburned. Can be an aloe vera gel from Pharmacy or even the inside gel in leaves of aloe vera. Stop in the meantime going under the sun because it's hard if your sunburn get worst.

15 or so years ago, I worked in a warehouse with a Brazilian. He was a previously a cop in Sao Paulo and said he got paid less as a cop there than we were getting paid. It was the early 2000s, we were making around $10/hr. I remember him telling me Rio was the most dangerous place to visit in Brazil since most of the cops and officials there were corrupt, and that even being a cop from a different city in Brazil he wouldn't visit there.

Don't think I would enjoy Rio much having one foot in the grave. Going anywhere with Kat would make things bearable probably. Great videos Ben, Always enjoy watching the two of you.

If you go in the water there ask Cat/Kate to search on local websites which beaches are not polluted if you don’t want to get the shits 😅 Also if you end up going to Rio Grande do Sul state, defo recommend you try a churrasco (your favourite meal in Rio) at a churrascaria there 😉
