As someone from Belgium, this was really the best day of my life. I can still feel the excitement. That magical evening and the upcoming days were amazing. Next morning, I was at the airport. You could feel the atmosphere, everyone knew what had happened the day before. Everyone was so happy. Amazing what a simple game can do.

(this is copied and pasted from an article) The team that won the World Cup won a knock-out stage game 1-0 with a goal scored off a header from a centre-back against the team that would go on to win in 4 years later Carles Puyol securing a 1-0 win over Germany in the semi-final in 2010, Mats Hummels netting the winner in the 1-0 victory over France in the quarter-final in 2014 and Samuel Umtiti sending his side into the 2018 World Cup winner with his header against Belgium - yes, that semi-final also ended in a 1-0 win. so if this pattern continues, belgium may win

I'm Brazilian and I say: Belgium deserved to win. Both teams played very well. Brazil was extremely better than the disastrous 7x1 of 2014. But Belgium took better advantage of opportunities and finishes, an example was Kevin's beautiful goal. It was a fair win and a very hot game come 2022!!!

After this defeat in 2018, one thing I noticed for the first time in my life (I watched all World Cups since 1994), is that this time, our team lost with heads up and no drama. Before the 7-1 calamity in 2014, there seemed to be such a toxic arrogance in the air everytime Brazil walked into the pitch, our media made it look like that whenever the national team lost a match, it was obviously fault of some of our own. It was like the "the Seleção can win whenever it wants, and if it doesn't that is because some of us messed up", the first thing to do was firing the coach right away (interrupting a whole work in progress), and then there was ALWAYS a scapegoat: Ronaldo's sickness in 1998, Roberto Carlos' socks in 2006 (he got so upset he withdrew from the team forever), Felipe Melo in 2010 (this one was the closest to be true, yet it's been exaggerated), and countless others in previous cups, also a lot of completely nonsensical theories on the game/the referee being "sold out" or "sabotage" were often raised in common conversation. Indeed, anything seemed easier than admiting that the other side played better and deserved to win. Now, it seemed that both team, managers and the public have finally grown up, we commended our adversaries for a well deserved victory, and instead of being booed by the crowds in the airport as they came back to Brazil, our players received the applause and recognition of a public that understands they did their best. Some "evils" come for the best.

As a brazilian i cant help but congratulate Belgium. They did a flawless 1st time and handled the pressure very well in the second half. We are so used to go far in WCs that i can't imagine the joy that Belgium fans are right now, at the semi-finals and with real chances to go for the title. Im sure that the fans of this year winner are going to celebrate much more than Brazilians would (and we would've celebrate like hell)

They always had terrible coaches, else more may have been possible, but you also need a bit of luck sometimes, and that was lacking especially with how the brackets often turned out. Saying they didn't achieve anything on a video where they eliminated favourites Brazil is pretty strange. Third place in the World Cup was a big achievement for a country like Belgium. For Belgium it was a golden generation, big football countries have such a generation (or better) every tournament.

Belgian here. This was the most intense game of football I've ever seen. We had a clear strategy to take Brazil, which we executed perfectly in the first half (admittedly also with some luck on Silva's attempt hitting the post and of course the own goal). But in the second half Brazil really turned the pressure up, hammering us mercilessly until the end of the game. You could tell we were exhausted and hanging on for dear life by the end, but countless saves from Courtois pulled us through. Kudos to Brazil, you guys put up a hell of a fight and outclassed us in the second half. There is no shame in exiting the tournament after a game like this, and I'm sure you'll be back in four years with even more experience and determination to grab your sixth World Cup.

As a Belgian, being proud of this result without any doubt, I totally dislike the mocking over Brazil however. Everyone here respects their history, and we DO realize we shouldn't be compared with them over the course of time. In world cups, Brazil reached the top 4 11 times while Belgium managed to do so only 2 times (1x 3rd and 1x 4th), which is all in all good! Our country has a population of 11 million people, whereas Brazil has about 200 million, how could we expect bringing up the same in the largest sport of this world? Sure populations don't tell the whole story (see India), but Brazil has football culture just like we do, but on a WAY bigger scale. Brazil are all time winners, Belgium are 'decent', unlike other countries about our size. I can live with this, enjoying this Belgian generation now! 👍

I am Greek . Because Greece was beaten by Belgium, I was on the side of Belgium. I am so glad that Belgium managed to reach semi finals and beat England to take the 3rd place. Respect to Belgium.

yeah man I think so too. Sweden defends very well. England can't really score other than Harry Kane's penalties (that's my opinion and that's been my observation throughout this world cup, not counting the game against Panama which was too easy for England). Sweden has a good chance of getting into semis.
