We have been at this spot for over a week for about 1 month ago. We had no problem (we parked downstream, not above the refugee centrum). What did amaze me was that so many people leave their vans completely open and out of sight with all values out in the open... There is a certain person there, a shepherd that comes every single day, and sometimes during the night. He does this for many years already (Rust to roadtrip also had troubles with him). He is begging for money and he will try door handles like it is nothing... Normally there are always quite some vans around there but we were a few nights alone too but didn't have any problem. If I were you, I would go back, in the morning, enjoy the river. Park closeby (you can park within 2m or something) so you can have an eye out.

Glad your both safe. The Greek people are so nice. There is a high probability that they were migrants trying to break into you van. I'm not trying to make a political statement or be unkind to any race. So I would say, try parking with a couple of other vans were possible for safety. Chat to the other people vans. Agree to look out for each other. Stay safe.

Greece and Bulgaria seem to have issues with harassing campers. Maybe it depends on the area of the country. Their aggressiveness would be how violent drug addicts would act. My instinct would be to fight, but not wise to step out. You handled it perfectly.

Philly and Keely. To prevent break ins when I’m in my camper I have 3 dogs that have terrifying growls. They leave pretty quickly. For you guys record growling dogs off the internet and play the growling if it happens again.

Greek history is just incredible to think the monks built these mind blowing monasteries what a death defying feat of will power, strength & tenacity!! Chinese & Greece culture & recorded history goes back to 1500BC apparently ~ "The history of Greece can be traced back to Stone Age hunters. Later came early farmers and the Minoan and Mycenaean civilizations. This was followed by a period of wars and invasions, known as the Middle Ages. Around 1100 BC, the people of the Dorians invaded from the north and spread along the west coast". Love that you are both willing to climb & explore plus the drone footage was priceless, so emotive it would bring tears to your eyes!! I still can not believe that people would have to pure audacity to try to break in while you are inside, omg that was so scary & thank goodness the Van was safely parked for quick getaway! Amazing scenery! I have been to Greece but in the Spring. It was hot in May. I am so sorry that someone felt they had to try to steal from you. You handled it well. You cheer me up every week & I’m gutted for you that someone has tried to do that but they didn’t get in because you kept level headed & got out of there, take that away with you that they couldn’t fool you! They weren’t locals, my cousin has lived in Greece for a long time & says that it foreigners of Greece from all different countries that do this & that you need to report it to the local police! Overnight in Van with no dog, you need several dogs barking together on autoplay recording or one big snarly Lion roar cat. Then have international sticker placed on van, "Beware of dogs". Outside Spot lights help yes, but something loud to scare attackers away. I Feel for you both,, being alone in a strange land. I won't spend time (my travel history)as a tourist hitchhiking through Greece, and no support from the local authorities. Keep yourselves safe. Vote YES for more drone views, but having Keely laugh in background, even at the end. Also, Look up what Greek island, has a Cat Sanctuary, with quite of controversial history who owns the land etc. and the many cats to be adopted. Great vlog 👍 🐕‍🦺🐾🙀💖

I’m so sorry to hear about the break in. Can I suggest you get someone to do an energy clearing on your van. The first time I did travel years ago, I had two medium size dogs, once whilst looking out the window, a man seemed to be coming straight for my van...my two dogs barked ferociously and he darted away. But it still left me shook. Now I am beginning another long adventure in a Toyota Sienna with no dogs (They passed during covid)and I have to say it is a different kind of travel. I have a walking stick that has a taser on the end and I periodically practice. It is right next to me for quick access. The FIRST action will be to drive away. Your action was the best choice. Also, such amazing footage you shared with us. Really enjoyed that.

Thought the way you handled the situation was impressive. On screen you seemed very calm but I can tell it got to you - because it's probably the thing we all dread happening the most. Remember 99.9% of people are good and kind, and try not to dwell on what that person's intentions were. Sending love and hugs. X

A man i know here from Norway was in Spain last summer with a camper van. He wake up in the middle of the night from the sound of someone try to break in to his car. He is a big man and can take care of him self if he get in trouble normally so he do like you do and tell them to go away. They dont bother him inside the camper van and keep trying to get the door open. Outside it was 2 men and they both had iron bars in their hands When they get the door open they attack him with the iron bars to he be unconscious. He wake up on hospital 3 weeks later after been in coma since the attack. Half his face was smashed in, his jaw was broken, his teeth were knocked out, a hole in his head, a broken arm, broken ribs +++. It is not easy to defend yourselves against such people and when they know there is people in the van and they have with them iron bars, they dont botter if they hurt anyone. You two was very lucky it go so well and dont be hurt. Hope you never have to experience this again

What an absolutely magical place.. And the drone shots are amazing. I was totally committed to getting there one day - and still will. But DANG !!! I'm so so SO saddened by the attempted break-in! what the F!??!! Just really horrible! You are right - there are SO many wonderful people all over the world.. and then the freakin' bleep bleeps!!! So glad you kept your wits about you and did not open the door... really good lesson! it would be a mistake I could see me and my hubs doing.. just open the door to see who was there.
