I know it’s a year old but I had to say, this video I found trying to figure out why I had so much frizz (I learned called halo frizz) what confused me was I’ve had straight hair my whole life (or trying to make it straight) I am now a month in to curly girl and my hair is sooooo curly. I could ever dream of having next to no frizz and curly hair with out my curling iron. Amazing!!! Thank you so much for this video! Changed my life!!!

I always wondered why I had so much breakage because I don't dye, straighten, or blow dry my hair. I don't put it in ponytails often because of the breakage that sticks out horribly and frizzes. I think the problem is that my hair is very fine. Thanks for helping me realize that!

Fine hair is super annoying because the hair around your face is even THINNER AND FINER than the rest of your head! 💀 Honestly, just try to minimize frizz or use products to slick down flyaways. Preventing breakage is just not possible if you touch your hair ever.

I'm a 3A 3B curly and transitioning to my natural gray, too, so my hair has been a job to deal with for sure. My breakage could be from several things you mentioned. I have found that I can tell a lot even just from the way the hair I lose when shampooing feels. If it's mushy or overly stretchy like a rubber band- it needs protein, if it feels like cotton or sheep's wool it needs more moisture, and if it stretches a little then breaks I'm on the right track, lol or at least for that day. But as we all know tomorrow is another day, and for us curlies the struggle is real.

Great info Thankyou. The explanation of pre poo oils that absorb on your ends has helped w tangles after I shampoo. Mine were so bad I had to cut them out. Finger coiling is great after detangling with a wet brush. I use pure argon oil on my ends everyday.

Great video and you were right in not recommending that hair brush. A video on breakage using the worst brush for breakage would be counter productive. Most curly hairtypes will have breakage after using a natural bore brush even just once. The tension is unreal, this brush is used best for pre detangled blowouts on tight curls. For this job it smooths, stretches and does a wonderful job. Though blowouts are damaging, they are usually worn for at least a week but most often last two weeks at a time. So if you are using this brush daily for refreshing stubborn curls and restyling. You are overusing it and are going to run into BIG problems, heat or no heat. Wearing your natural curls should not need this intensity of tension or manipulation. Especially healthy curls, let's keep them healthy. Ribboning them should be easily done without having to cause damage. If you are someone worried about breakadge or adding more damage. Some advice here from a trained hairstylist, is to stay away from natural bore bristles or imatation plastic versions.

Totally unrelated but I love your blouse! I cut a ton of my hair off, like 4ish inches and my porosity totally changed, as well. I also had old hair color and bleach and most of it got cut off. I was having issues with my hair not clumping and it was like no matter what I did, parts of it just would NOT group together and it was so frustrating. Since I cut it, it clumps up so much better and I don't feel like I'm fighting with it so much. I also got more of a blunt cut and I think that helped too

I usually wear my hair in a high ponytail and then braided every single day for work reasons (I have really long hair and work in a restaurant). I really struggle with breakage and I'm trying to find ways to reverse the damage I have inflicted on my poor hair. Do you have any advice on curly hair up-dos that aren't as stressful to the hair? I've tried wearing it in a low loose braid but it just doesn't look right with my face :( I'm definitely planning on buying silk hairbands but I feel like it might not be enough.

I have a question that defies most curl knowledge. Please believe me when I say my hair hates oil. So does my skin. I have high porosity, fine, low density hair. It's similar to yours, possibly more fine. I've lost 50% of my hair in 4 years and I don't know why. I blamed Deva, birth control, anesthesia... etc. I've tried everything I can to stop it from breaking. It's currently super dry. It was doing much better a year ago for some reason. I do live in Denver, arguably the driest place in the country. Ok so getting to the question. I feel like i loose so much more hair if I dry detangle or pre poo. As I said my hair and skin hate oil. They both refuse to absorb any type and it just sits on the surface and sticks. Last time I dry detangled I lost as much as I lose in the shower, then got in the shower and shampooed and lost the same amount as normal and had to wash an extra time to get the oil out and lost even more. So... is it possible.... this is not in fact the best method for everyone? And if so how would you recommend I get moisture in. My hair loves leave ins and deep conditioning just no oil. I've been using tons of leave in with the exact ingredients you mentioned (Aloe, Marshmallow, Elm) but am still having so much breakage and frizz. I also have all the towels and pillowcases and such... it's not that. Please help before my hair is gone.

OLAPLEX was ok the first couple of times I used it. The third time I used it, it made my scalp so incredibly itchy I had to wash it off immediately and it took a long time for the sensation to go away. @GenaMarie
@GenaMarie 3 жыл бұрын
I find it depends on how much water you remove. When my hair was more damaged and more high porosity, if I squeezed out the water it would dry up immediately because all the water releases and it would frizz. If you apply products to soaking wet hair and then air dry, that would take a while.
@iDmple

High porosity hair with product takes forever to dry because it absorbs so much water and the products seals it in. Naked high porosity hair dries very fast because the cuticle is open
@iDmple
@iDmple 3 жыл бұрын
Let's make the following analogy. High porosity hair is like a sponge. If the sponge is full of water / product, it will take ages to dry. If you squeeze the sponge and remove as much as you can, it'll take less long but still a while. Low porosity hair is like a rock, or duck feathers. The water just glides around it, and it will dry almost immediately.

You may have a combination of high and med/low porosity hair if you haven’t colored it in 5 years. It depends on how much the previous colored hair has grown out or been cut off. Gena has some good videos on hair porosity...these may help you determine what you have. I have very fine, colored, high porosity hair and most shampoos make my hair feel like a tangled rat nest. I have struggled with finding good products. I have had success with the Giovanni line (some drugstores or Sprouts), the full Treluxe line is great, and my favorite is the Inahsi shampoos (clarifying and moisture) and conditioner. Inahsi offers trial sizes. In the end, everyone’s hair is different and it can take a lot of trial and error.
