Maybe it's just me, but I see the middle section as a balance between some of PB's greatest achievements (the Gumball Guardians) and some of her greatest failures (her warped successors). I also really like #16's depiction of PB in the last painting. She's not portrayed as malevolent or benevolent, but rather as a figure that reigns nonetheless.

i think the middle section is implying that both goliad and the gumball guardians are equally powerful, knowing, important etc in the minds of the citizens. and the middle "psychic lines" between them are actually in the shape of an eye, implying an omniscience that (looking at the arms behind the bars in that section) is unwelcome and invasive of citizen privacy. most likely a reference to Princess Bubblegum's rocky past with spying on her citizens (the big camera surveillance room) and treating them as prisoners in their own homes with constant watching and removal of privacy. just a thought :P

5:30 I think the lemongrab painting is supposed to represent how Lemongrab 1 and Lemongrab 2 became Lemongrab 3, or just one being. The stitching also suggests this. Though, I do like your thought of it as well.

I personally believe that the two different groups facing each other represents the two different powerful forces PB has created to keep the empire safe. The inorganic automatons in the Gumball Guardians and the organic being Goliad and Stormo. The light between the two groups is showing the more angelic seeming attempts at protection of Princess Bubblegum watching over the Candy Kingdom; especially the prisons which hold someone of significance. This more holy and public form of protection is countered by the evil looking goop that represents her more nefarious forms of control through constant public surveillance. It's also interesting to note that both of the groups have one member facing the other keeping the balance in check (robot vs organic) while the other member is looking out at the viewer or surveying the rest of the area (the left gumball guardian and Stormo cause his eye is not looking ahead, but rather out)

I know this is an old episode, but just in case there is no other comment stating so, the waves between the gazes of Goliad/Stormo and the Gumball Guardian form two eyelids, so as they are watching one another, the area between their gazes is looking directly at the viewer. I think this simply serves to show that both the Gumball Guardians and Goliad/Stormo are some of the most powerful beings of the Candy Kingdom, and are always looking over the inhabitants. This brings up the question however, of why they are in the middle of the mural, where the colors are darkened and dreary. What I personally think is that while the Candy Kingdom is meant to be protected by these beings, all of them (except Stormo) have posed a threat at some point, which would make them quite scary to the citizens.

perhaps the gumball guardians and Goliad and the psychic bird one represent the positive and negative developments of the candy kingdom. Obviously the guardian's being the positive protecting the citizens and Goliad being the latter, bringing danger to them.

Neddy as a snake and PB as being born mature may be invocations of the mother goddess archetype, who is born adult and often decipted with a snake in ancient mythologies (remember Eve from the Bible). The Circular beams of light suggest her as linked to Mary, who is seen by anthropologists as a "clean, rational, transcendental, organized" version of the mother goddess, who normally represents the caos and ugliness of nature, being decipted as a vampire in romantic literature, which is probably what Marceline represents here (?) The exchange between the Gumball guards and Goliad is a little more complicated, but may evoke the dubious influence of PB's cold, rational scientific aspirations and inventions, both potentialy a blessing and a threat. Her Uncle's image is more complex. It is known that the figure of the man who works with his bare hands is a mythologycal archetype of the earth cults. Since PB is represented here as the central figure of a transcendental sky cult, his imprisionment may signify the overcoming of primitive disorder, superstition and hardship through her rational mindset, the triumpf of men over nature. However, since his imprisionment is decipted as something negative, the candy people may continue to see him in a positive light, like how in ancient greece the city-dwellers embraced a sky cult with Zeus/Apollo/Athena (who has paralels with PB) as central figures, while in the countryside the commom folk still used agriculture goddess Demeter as the center of their earth cult pantheon. This also ties in with the eyes (the strict, opressive surveillance of a distant ruler) and Lemongrab (the evil fruit of her transcendental power, her divine punishment). The whole panel culminates in the final figure, a supreme Celestial Goddess (with the Swan resembling a snake) of both bliss and doom, much like Old Testament Jehova. What if the comet killed the mother gum and that's why there only pb and her brother

The catalyst comet that hit right after the mushroom war was Finn's. And he has a vision of his past lives, he sees a butterfly, A PINK SLUDGE THING, and shoko. I think Finn was the mother gum.

Neddy in serpentine form makes more sense when you combine it with the fact that he is wrapped about a tree. The symbolism is of the Biblical creation story with the tempting serpent and the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. I believe its placement in the mural shows the transition from PB as an innocent gum person to the terrible creature of power she would become, leaving the peaceful Garden of Eden to go and create a more complicated world.

Is it odd that I find that the meural is actually really beautiful?

the center part of the mural seems to convey some kind of dichotomy between two different points in Princess Bubblegum's life while the center with the group of eyes keeps a watchful eye over those who wish to figure this out and keep some oppressed that do honestly the whole part feels like the parts of Princess Bubblegum's life that are shrouded in Legend and secrecy things most of the Candy People only know very little about

Also, Lemongrab 3 is a literal Frankenstein, so yeah.

The caged hand in the middle part is shown again in the last episode intro "Come along with me"! anyone have an interpretation for it?

Cool video! It's funny you should mention Neddy's snake-like appearance. The way he coils around the tree is highly reminiscent of depictions of The Fall of Man, in which Satan, in the form of a serpent, is usually shown twirling around the Tree of Wisdom in the same manner. Also I think the gumball guardians and Goliad form an all-watching eye, which could mean that 16 thinks they are watching over the kingdom. If in a good way or not, I'm not sure.

I think there’s a chronological aspect to the mural as well. The far-left represents the origins of PB & the Candy Kingdom. This begins with a comet coming to Earth with the Mother Gum. Marceline serves as both a point on PB’s timeline, as well as an influence on the Kingdom. The eyes, Goliad, the Gumball Guardians, etc. make up PB’s “security and surveillance state”. Lemongrab-Frankenstein is there to represent PB’s glob-like power to create and edit life. These elements are beautiful, and they are terrifying. Her arrival by comet, birth, and her many influences and actions are all ingredients in producing PB, seen on the right-hand side as a beautiful, terrifying… Glob, if you will. Clearly PB, her dragon brother, and vampire ex are rightly *feared* by the simple-minded Candy citizens, especially the banana guards.

Hey! This is late but I think the depiction of goliad, stormo and the G guards are all creations of PB that have their own REAL power, and in this it’s giving them an almost menacing impression, but also with an aura of protection. It’s making them feel scary and powerful, kind of like demigods that have imperfections, but their purpose is secure and well-meaning.

can you make a series about the ideals of the characters in adventure time? or like their philosophies or whatever, i would love to see the transformation and maturity of finn from season 1 to 6 or the justification of ice king's insanity

I believe the middle section with the guardians and golliad and stormo is another depiction of her watching over the kingdom. Because both are security measures to protect her kingdom and because the golden lines form an eye.

I think the mural depicts what we now know to be pbs memories. That implies that it's possible memories transferred to the candy kingdom while Pb was building candy Kingdom. Pb is candy essence. So it's possible she's a part of everything in Candy kingdom. Also explains how 16 knowing marcelenes monster form

3:38 I believe this part of the mural represents the Gumbal Guardian's, Goliad', and Stormo's watch over the kingdom being a broad scope of vision, as represented by the vast landscape of mountains behind their golden bands of vision, and that this "broad sense" overlooks the insecurity of the citizens under their guard, as represented by the jail being just out of their gaze. I believe that the candy man in the jail is either generally representative of the citizens' unease under the rule of Bubblegum, or it is an actual character who was a martyr of sorts that came to represent that same general unease mentioned earlier.

The Madoka OST in the background is a nice touch 👌🏾

The dark middle section is about freedom and the feeling of being watched ...everytime. Man what a beautiful and impressive he has the banana guard.

1:04 made me realize something: - pink Catalyst Commet above the picture of the Mother Gum (probably spawned from it) - Blue Catalyst Commet above where Finn is standing - Green Catalyst Commet above Jake (an alternate version of Jake becomes the Vessel for the Lich AKA the Green Catalyst Commet).

The three comets might have been the blue catalist comet, the green catalist comet, and the orange catalist comet (shown in the episode "Orgalorg")

I think the Comet might have given life to the Gum itself rather than it appearing in Elementals like it was before the Mushroom War. When the Comet gave life to the gum itself we see it being alive in the Simon and Marceline Episode. PB and Nedy break out of the gum and have their individual lives.

It just clicked for me. The back ground music from the bit where he discusses bgp's final portrait is from Madoka Magica.

The being we see caged is more literal than symbolic. although it might be pb we once again see this caged figure in the opening of come along with me

I definitely think the depiction of the Gum-ball Guardians indicates their constant defense and vigilance of the Kingdom. Why he shows one of the Guardians keeping Goliad in check vs. Stormo is either artistic interpretation (the Banna Guards probably don't know all the details of the griffins...they might think both are enemies and the Guardians are the real heroes vs. Stormo) or change in real life requiring the Guardians to devote some of their power to suppressing Goliad.

That Madoka music was really a good choice for this video, great job!

On 4:12 i believe that storm is teaching the cat to protect the candy kingdom similar to the gumball guardians since they are both strong creations made from PB

4:05 I think it means PB's side vs old bubblegum side, the gumball guardians are ancient and she created stormo and goliad with science. Maybe it's comparison

I think the Gumball Gardians are representing oppression by PB as they look over a cage with arms coming and they are very powerful thus scary to the population. Same for Goliad who was made to become a new ruler and also ruled as an oppressive dictator.

The 3 comets depict the ones that hit earth. The first is the green comet that brought the lich, the 2nd was the yellow comet that brought the mother gum (PB), the 3rd is the blue comet that brought Finn.

Your analysis was awesome! TBH when I first saw the mural I saw Princess Bubblegum more as though she was scared or freighted. It's questionable wether or not the Banana Guards see past PB's façade as a well respected and royal, but mysterious and secretive ruler

I think the comets may represent how the giant bubblegum birth station came to life. either by the comets bringing the bubblegum to earth or that they transfered the life goop from inside the comet, the life goop that asked Finn if he wanted to stay on earth or follow it becoming one with it but his dad took his place instead, to the bubblegum thingy.

Much props for the JSRF music in the background. Id recognize this soundtrack anywhere.

your education shines brightly in analyses like these! i wouldnt have made the connection between christian renaissance paintings and the halo, though it seems obvious now that youve pointed it out. i dont really have much to add because you covered just about everything, as always. i am happy you added that last line at the end; its one of my favorites regarding pb, because its painfully accurate. its also very telling about finns feelings towards her; he recognizes how powerful and even frightening bonnibel can be, but hes also aware of her tender side and when he looks at her, he sees both. im hoping that even more about this mural will be uncovered as season 8 goes on!

Both the guardians and sphinxes are all creations of pb, there's some duality themed elements each pair of characters and their influence in the kingdom, as asymmetrical it is. The psychic battle or whatever between them evades me even more tho

I've always liked the idea that the elements were just catalyst comets with Ice as of evergreens time being the most recent. Long enough for past incarnation but still scared of the consequences to the extent patient having essentially PTSD of the lich's Essence. Regardless as we know that catalyst comments reincarnate so do the elementals as such providing credence to them being comment. This lends to the fact that as seen with the litch, Finn and to a degree Jake commets can and have seen instances with their past incarnations linking PB to Chapsberry. Alternatively the reason PB herself is immortal could be due to the Bomb/litch commet landing near the candy elemental (as seen with patient's saint pim friend) could have irradiating his corpse to allow the mother gum's existence with PB being the first to dispart as such inheriting the elemental status rather then her brother netty.

3:54 i think thats depicts how PBs creations were often a danger to each other as well. Or just that they are watching the kingdom.

Did you notice the picture on the wall at 0:20? Is that Huntress Wizard? More foreshadowing? 1:00 Do you remember when Finn was remembering his past lives? Remember that one of those lives was some sort of pink goo? Maybe Fin was the Mother Gum, or at least, part of it. Maybe he's the reason PB spawned off from it. 4:30 He kinda reminds me of the King of Ooo.

I think the comet is in sequence and leads to the Mothergum becoming sentient. The side the comet is striking has no faces; the comet brings sentience to the gum, the gum creates an avatar (PB). Kinda like reading a book, left to right makes the story proceed.
