bb23, nice vid. I would recommend for anyone with an older house (1830s-1950s) who may have a faucet that has been in place for decades to use a faucet handle puller. These inexpensive tools allow one to remove the faucet handle-that can get nearly "welded" on with age, corrosion/calcification-without applying so much force that it compromises the entire plumbing set behind the wall. While your "tapping it with the handle of a screwdriver" might work many times, there will be those rogue faucets that require a bit more equalized pull from the front. The faucet puller does not strain the plumbing but sure does help yank off the handle.

The valve seat I bought was at my local Home Depot. BUT the guy working there had no idea when you buy the replacement kit for the Price Pfister, it does NOT include the valve seat and you must buy it separate. So…….. be on the lookout for that little item in a bag on the hundreds of items on the peg wall at Home Depot. More than likely the employee has NO IDEA what it is, what it’s for, or if they even have it.

Great video. That nut you mentioned is called a packing nut. Another tip is to apply thread sealant to the new valve seat or a few turns of Teflon tape.

Collar nut? Packing nut!!! The washer and seat you replaced stops leaks from your supply line to the spout. I.e., cant turn it off. The washer on the body that you did not replace prevents leaking behind your wall. Not replacing it can cause damage that you may not find until it becomes severe. Floor, wall(s), joist's, drywall, ect. The packing nut, tightens down on a soft material (packing) between the stem and the inner body. It sqeezes this material forcing it to 'hug' the stem to keep the stem from wallowing around and prevents leaking that would run out from your handles into your tub. It usually does not need replacing but maybe an extra turn on the nut would do good. It should cause your handle to turn with a bit of resistance. Not much. Nice video. Well done. I got tired of replacing the washers in those types of faucets a few years ago and changed all of them in the house to the washerless, dripless type. (Kitchen is a Peerless, bathroom sink is a Price-Pfister and shower/tub is a Delta) Seems like with that old type that the washers would only last a year or two and need replacing again. The only part I've had to replace in the last 5 years with the new ones is a new sink aerator as we have hard water and the old had clogged up bad and I couldn't even fix it soaking it in CLR, lol. The old shut off valves in this house for the main from the street have the old pot metal handles broken off. I know I need to replace them some day, but I did at least buy a curb key so that I can shut off the water at the meter itself a couple of months ago. Going to need a new water heater in the next year or two as I've gotten to noticing a lot of corrosion on the cast iron inlet where it connects to the tank. Can't complain I guess as the old A.O. Smith heater has lasted well over 20 years now.

My knob was just loose do i need a new Phillips head screw or should I just get two new knobs and tighten them in because nothing's wrong with the hot it's the the cold it you go to turn it and it feels like it's stripped wobble should i just get 2 new faucet handles they just like urs in video will that fix it??? Then my other one is I got a hole in the side of my faucet spout right for a shower attachment to go on the side and that broke off and I can't get that damn piece out of there same diameter will just screw right in the side right ??

Any suggestions on how to remove a stuck on outer collar? It will not loosen by hand or wrench, no screws holding it on anywhere.

The collars on my tub faucets are loose and fall away from the wall. I'm in my 70s. Where do I put the caulk to keep them in place? The piping was replaced this spring and I have had this problem since.

The cold water faucet in the tub is backward meaning that when i want to turn it on, i have turn the faucet to the right instead of the normal left and to turn it off, obvious ly, turn it to the left instead if right. It's just always been that way since i moved into the house years ago. So since I'm going to be attempting to do this same project that u just did in this video, I was thinking that now might be a good time to correct that issue if it's not too complicated for me. Isn't there any kind of topical paste that can be applied to the handle splines so that the handles won't weld to the spindle?

Considering two trips to the store plus the rest of the work I would spend about four hours in the process of screwing this up big time. Then I would hire a plumber and pay him about $500. to fix the original problem plus what I screw up. The other option is I could hire a plumber to fix the current problem and pay him $350. But I may try it anyway. I assume you must turn of the water at the curb and at the hot water tank.

Someone ie so called professional plumber came fixed my leaky tub faucet . Now the tap only turns a 1/3 of the way up so I get no pressure from the Hot water tap. Guy at hardware store said it could be he put a kitchen one on instead of the bathroom one which only turns a 1/4 of the way . Now how do I know I am getting the right one same as that tool you used to get it out .I don't want to go back 88 times to get the right tool I'm only gonna use once. I figure if a Proffesional can screw it up how will I hurt it , Right?

Buy a stepped valve seat wrench, for crying out loud! Not a screwdriver!
