There are several reasons Gus only gave Walt one hour, since he was reluctant to work with Walt he may have had someone watching Jessie & known he was passed out. It could have been a test to see if Walt can deliver with his junkie partner incapacitated. Also 1st drug meet with strangers can be done in short timeframe to prevent being set up. It's easier to see if someone is legit by forcing them to react quickly. Gus would have had someone tail Walt to make sure he wasn't doing anything shady. It's the element of surprise to show dominance.

Walt telling Gus that he has 38 pounds "ready to go at a moment's notice" might have prompted Gus to test if he can professionally stick true to his word which is why Victor gave him only one hour to prepare the deal (and that might have been a generous hour too)

There's actually a scene in breaking bad that could be a retroactive reference. In season 5, there's a scene where walt, saul and jesse meet in the desert. Walt decides to just talk to jesse and so tells saul to "take a walk." Instead saul just sits by the car.

1:44:50 I think he is more satisfied over the fact that he put Hank in his place for once, after Hank emasculated him time after time in the show at this point. I think in this scene he didn't really give a crap or even is aware he hurt Jr. He's just smiling he finally stood up for himself to Hank. That's my take at least.
@ladyincityoflights6449
@ladyincityoflights6449 Жыл бұрын
Yes, I agree! Also would add that Hank and "Flynn" were having a chummy moment and Walt wanted to break that up, which he did in spades. He hates how Jr. admires Hank for being a bad ass DEA agent, so he goes extra bad ass, pouring the booze and butting heads with Hank, who never knows his place. I really hate the way Hank treated Walt at his birthday party in the pilot episode, and yes, it was certainly about time that Walt put him in his place, it just came out in a weird way to his mood and alcohol abuse. He's definitely smiling with satisfaction at Hank being thwarted, he's not thinking about Jr. at all, or perhaps a rub for changing his name to Flynn.

I personally considered Walt making Junior drink as a way of taking control over his son, because Hank always was more of a father figure tham Walt.

Big theme for Walt is suicidality and lack of control. He craves control and thought he would gain it by making money and dying. But, unfortunately for him, he has to continue living and suffering and can't be the hero he wants to be. The scene with Junior is him trying to grab back some of that control that has been taken from him.

There were a lot of happy accidents early on in the show's development that ended up guiding it in a much better direction. From the writer's strike cutting Season 1 short, rerouting the show from a rushed run, to Tuco having to be cut as the main antagonist for Season 2, opening a window for new fantastic characters like Gus, Saul, and Mike, and further more nuanced exploration of the characters currently present, to Bob Odenkirk's issues in scheduling being directly responsible for the existence of Mike Ehrmantraut, I think we can safely say the show would've likely been much WORSE off if things had gone so cleanly for the BB team. This should stand as a lesson to all aspiring creatives to really go with the flow. See opportunity in adversity. Embrace any perceived inconveniences as much as possible, and you will be rewarded beyond your imagination. What's today's trash is tomorrow's treasure. Keep up the good work, everybody.

3:14:00 I interpreted this scene as Gus knowing this information being why he was at the DEA in the first place. Getting to know the people closest to Walt so he can understand him and his motivations, as well as his weakpoints.

Yeah, I didn’t even think about it until Kiwi pointed out that they made it seem like Gus really didn’t know when he should have. But it also makes sense that Gus did know that info but was putting himself in place to learn more
@ralfred2009
@ralfred2009 Жыл бұрын
@@KDBetter Additionally, of course Gus (and by extension, the writers) is gonna make it seem like he's just learning this now. How fucking weird would it be if the owner of the local chicken joint strolls into your office one day and knows all about your brother in law and his terminal lung cancer?? Plus, we know from the BCS missing scene with Mike and Saul during episode 208 that Mike knew all about Walter's cancer, and we know from his relationship with Gus at the end of BCS that there is a near 0% chance he wouldn't have relayed that to Gus

Gus saying “You cant trust an addict” might have something to do with Walt being the true addict by just being addicted to his own pride or whatever you would call it, all of these things he does. Walt being addicted to being the best. In the end Gus should have trusted Jesse and not Walt.
@MKhelobUltra
@MKhelobUltra Жыл бұрын
The thing about Gustavo not knowing about Walt is interesting, even more taking BCS into account. There's that scene in the final season, after the empty graveyard scene, where Mike tells Saul all about Walter and his condition. It stands to reason to believe that everything Mike said then, he would've told Gustavo once Saul got him to introduce Walt and Jesse to him. But it's interesting that Mike didn't mention Walt's brother in law being a DEA agent, which he surely would've mentioned to Saul as another reason for him to be a liability, let alone to Gustavo. Hard to believe that medical records are easier to get ahold of than the extended family tree.

A scene in early season 3 has Mike sharing those details about Walt's physical and mental health and Mike has a great funny line in there too, it's first time we see them together in fact, parked alone at a nondescript location . Mike : "If you want to hire this guy, why don't you just tell him? You're the only thing that sticks between him and an axe to the head" referring to the twins.

My thoughts about the "Junior throwing up from drinking" scene. Is just about control. Hank is the big dick of the room which makes Walt feel inferior in his own home. He's even being "commanded" by Hank to keep filling his shot glass up. So Walt takes control of the situation, making his son drink. Hank tries to stop it, but Walt forces his way through by pouring alcohol between his fingers. Then gets angry when Hank takes the bottle away, commanding him with force to "BRING...THE BOTTLE...BACK". Then it all comes to a close with Junior throwing up which basically ends the scene. He's probably satisfied a little bit, between been drunk and getting his bottle back as Hank puts it on the table. Meaning Walt technically wins.

I think a possible explanation of gus' distrust of junkies is Tuco. Tuco is a junkie, and as a salamanca and specifically the salamanca North of the border after lalo died and before the events of season 2 of bcs, it's highly likely gus had dealings with tuco. It's even possible that gus didn't even have a specifically negative interaction with tuco, he just hates him because he's a salamanca so basically tuco =salamanca, salamanca = bad tuco = junkie therefore junkie = bad
@lancenwokeji6349
@lancenwokeji6349 9 ай бұрын
I find it more likely that Gus hears the cartel members (Bolsa and others) complain about Tuco, so he sees Tuco as the weak link of the Salamancas because he is a junkie. So to him, junkie = weak link.

Regarding the junkie in 2x10 you have to remember that hard drugs take a hell of a toll on your body. That’s probably why he looks the way he does. I mean take a look at Spooge and his woman. They’re probably only in their late 30s - early 40s but look a hell of a lot older due to their habits. Just go look up before and after photos of junkies. Even Aaron Paul was not sold on Jesse having perfect teeth and skin in the show despite his addiction

I don't think Walt was intentionally trying to hurt junior by letting him drink.....it was more about Walt feeling in charge. And Hank trying to stop him only made it worse. "If my kid wants to have drinks with his dad, then I will be the one to say whether it's ok or not". Walt just dealt with his inner turmoil by feeling like the man on the throne. And not that it has anything to do with that scene in particular, because it's definitely not what Walt was trying to do....there's something to be said about the old style lesson of letting your kid do something until it makes them sick , making them never wanna do it again. That kinda dumb in my book, but depending on where you grow up, your surroundings, and where you get your genes....it can work. But it was also more useful back in the old days when it wasn't so easy for kids to get whatever they wanted behind their parents backs 😅

Jane's father could happen to live near her, and decide to go to the bar later in the night after work, while Walter, having just been at Jane's house, goes for a drink out of frustration. However, the parallels between their daughters and the timing is just the brilliant cosmic writing of the BB universe. (Also, good shit kiwi! amazing channel! hope you keep covering great shows.)

There are 2 reasons why i think that he pushed Junior to drink so much. the obvious first reason is Walt is upset about the cancer. The other reason is because Walt is trying to assert his dominance as the man of the house. In the first 2 seasons it’s clear that Walt is jealous that Junior thinks Hank is “cooler” than him. We see this in pilot where Hank is the center of attention at Walt’s birthday party. at the beginning of the drinking scene Hank is talking about turtle bomb Junior is clearly very interested and Walt is clearly jealous. He even tells Hank that “that’s my son, my bottle, my house!”
