Paxson's shot, Kerr's shot, Allen's shot, Kyrie's shot...The memes going around the internet about how "Jordan got his rings" and "how LeBron got his rings" gave me an excuse to dig into the specific games those memes came from and examine the game play of both Jordan and LeBron in the final moments of those games. The best player on the team doesn't always have to be the one who takes the last shot, but what he does crunch definitely matters. This video breaks down the difference in LeBron's performance VS. Jordan's in the 4 games most commonly referenced.
00:01 The memes / introduction
00:33 Basic Concepts - The difference between being bailed out and closing a series
01:06 Kyrie Irving's massively underrated game 5 performance
01:40 Breaking down the last moments of the fourth quarter of the 2013 NBA Finals Game 6
05:41 Breaking down the last moments of the 1993 NBA Finals Game 6
07:28 Breaking down overtime of the 2013 NBA Finals Game 6
13:47 Breaking down the last moments of the 1996 NBA Finals Game 6
16:23 Breaking down the last moments of the 2016 NBA Finals Game 7
17:30 Where are LeBron's iconic photos of game winning shots from his 20 years?
19:00 These aren't Jordan's best performances nor are these LeBron's worse performances. If you think I'm being mean to LeBron in this wait until we look at the 2011 finals.

If Kerr misses, game goes to overtime and even if they lose there’s still a game 7, if paxson misses the series goes to a game 7. If Ray or Kyrie miss the series is over and they lose. Not to mention that Kerr was averaging 4 ppg that series and paxson 7 respectively. Hardly comparable to Ray Allen let alone fucking Kyrie Irving💀

I still remember that game. Horace Grant had such an off game-kept fumbling the ball, having it slip out of his grip on layup after layup (1-footers). I remember thinking. “Come on, Horace, you can get it this time,” on that last possession, thinking he’d be clutch for the tie and OT. But I was wrong in the best way possible. He was clutch on the magnificent 3-pt assist to Paxson for the win.

A big reason videos like this are valuable is that they articulate what so many people who watched both Jordan and Lebron play have known in their guts but couldn’t necessarily articulate. Showing that Jordan, despite not being the one to hit the shot in game 6, absolutely made the play happen with some extremely smart basketball, basically getting Kerr WIDE open. That’s the kind of stuff we all felt when we saw Jordan play, and likewise did not feel watching Lebron. I’ve never even taken the comparisons between them seriously. As a Heat fan, this validates out team. Jordan could have pulled off winning all 4 or at least 3 if he had been in LeBron's situation in Miami. Without LeBron we have been to two finals. LeBron tried to get Spo fired. Chris Bosh had to humble himself and become a role player, when he was the guy, we made it to the second round before he got blood clots. LeBron, with all that help has won 2 titles in 10 years where he got 2 in 4 in Miami. That was a great team with great role players and multiple Hall of Fame players.

I would add that Jordan hit the game winning buzzer beater in game one of the 1997 finals after Malone missed 2 free throws that would’ve given Utah the lead. That’s why Marv Albert called it Jordan time because he had delivered time and time again in those moments and why the Jazz decided to double team him and force him to pass to someone else. Kerr unlike Pippen made the clutch shot giving the Bulls the lead and Pippen knocked the inbounds pass loose and Kukoc picked up the loose ball and dunked it to seal the victory. Stockton had hit a clutch 3 to put Utah in the finals.

I always thought Jordan pass to Kerr was what Jordan was all about. TEAM. Like in politic the NBA need a 10 year rule for ref's. After 10 years the door is over there. This would slow down the bias we see now. See that 29 points Lebron put up in the first half against the Nuggets in the playoff's. Right before the half a ref patted Lebron on the back because of the 29 points. Yea no bias there. If putting a team together i would not even take Lebron with my last pick.

MJ as the GOAT is reasonable, but I'd still stick by Bird, and I have my reasons. I'd still say that MJ is the best ceiling raiser of all time, if I already had 4 Birds, adding an MJ would benefit more than a 5th Bird, but if I had a average to garbage team and wanted a ring asap, or just win the most games possible with no other changes, who gives me a better chance than Bird? 33-0 carrying a college team that won nothing before or since. Biggest single season turnaround by a rookie for the Celtics in his first year, a ring in his second. Carrying his Celtics past the Lakers in 84, despite the Magic, Kareem and Worthy monster that they were, and before anyon😊😊😊e says it, McHale and Parish don't compare to Magic's help. I won't deny you guys MJ as your got, definitely a better choice than LeBron...

@@xsjado_anonmchale is a top 5 all time pf so yes he counts as much as a worthy or Kareem. Also the Celtics had lost hondo in 78’ at which time they ended the season the 3rd seed Hondo left they 79’ dropped to 5th seed and the very next season they got bird. Bird has benefited from mythology as much as anyone. Pistol Pete also came in birds rookie season.
@xsjado_anon
@xsjado_anon 8 ай бұрын
@jeromegarner7196 I agree with pretty much everything you've said, but two things: 1. Pistol Pete retired at the end of the season after Bird called him washed to his face. 2. Kareem is top 10 all time at the worst, maybe top 5 - McHale is an all time great, one of the most efficient pure scorers ever with potentially the prettiest fade-away of all time, but he's not on the same level at Kareem, it's not even close. Kareem was the best player on the Lakers for at least one of their rings, arguably 2, McHale was never Boston's top man, and in 87 Bird nearly put a beaten down Celtics on his back and carried them past Showtime with McHale hurt alongside others on his team, only missing a crucial win due to a lucky missed freethrow - without that luck winning 87 practically on his own would have cemented his legacy as Magic's better, but alas. Like I said though, I don't think your choice of GOAT is bad or invalid, I just have my own choice. One day AI might be able to replicate versions of historic players from some insane futurist analysis of old footage, then we may get something close to an answer - if so I'd be confident in my man Bird surprising everyone.

If you haven't already, please do a breakdown on how LeBron quit on his 2009 & 2010 Cavs teams in the playoffs that A: Dispels the ridiculous myth that he "had no help" and B: Just shows how stagnant the Cleveland offense was, at LeBron's insistence, IE, he'd dribble, dribble, dribble out the clock, and either chuck up a prayer, or pass to a role player, who'd then have to chuck up a last-second prayer 3-- miss two, you'd get the LeBron scowl and have to sit on the bench.

But the style of ball-hogging, hero-ball, clogged toilet offense was on display basically every Cleveland playoff game in 2009 and 2010. Except for John Paxson's final three points, only Jordan scored all nine of them. Also, as a side note to the '97 Finals, the spot where Jordan passed to Kerr is the spot where Jordan hit the buzzer-beater in Game 1 of the '97 Finals. Stockton remembered the spot, and when Jordan caught the ball there again in Game 4 of the 97 Finals, he double-teamed Jordan, stealing Jordan's shot and allowing Utah to take winning of the game. In Game 6 of 97 Finals, Jordan predicted that Stockton would help double-teamed if he caught the ball in the same spot again and told S.Kerr to be ready. The play worked.

And of course he's always given credit for the block before. The game was tied on that block. If Iggy makes that layup the score is 91-89. Then Kyrie hits his 3 and Cavs still win 92-91. So the block ultimately ends up being meaningless. Lebron on game winning/game tying shots in the Finals? 0-7 for his career. And everyone remembers 2011 🤣
