Summary recap of first 90 minutes begins circa <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="91">01:31</a>:00 . SEO blackbox audio begins circa <a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="101">01:41</a>:00. Please excuse me guys, your content is fabulous, but not all of us have 150 minutes even while washing dishes and doing laundry. But if you ask me to delete my comment with these timestamps, I will. I just wish you could pin chapters and/or timestamps to help people focus where they need to. Big thanks for all you do. 🙏🙌✨💙

The customer support is horrific. I’m actually about to get an attorney because I recently had a stalking, insane customer who was harrasing me for 3 months making dangerous threats against my life. They sent me at least 70 messages…and dozens of calls to support resulted n absolutely no help!! You can’t block messages on Etsy!! Even if you mark things as spam, they can still continue to send messages. I’m beyond fed up with the lack of support especially when they don’t protect their buyers against mentally insane customers.

What I didn't hear in the video is "We are committed to backing our sellers. We will improve our support process and make sure you can get ahold of a human in case something happens to your shop. We won't delete shops without warning. We will be open and transparent about why we suspend a shop....". The shiny advertising is nice but there was nothing I heard him say that removes my fear of suddenly waking up minus a little shop that I have put a lot of work and effort into, making everything with my own two hands for 11 years.

You are not alone. The only thing they are interested in, is protecting is their bottomline. Actions tell the truth. If they cared about the people that made the platform grow, the human support would have been made available. What this company did was throw decent people that depended upon the income from their shops to the curb and blamed "AI". It's all gorilla dust.

As a buyer, I absolutely care about what etsy is selling. I want them to be the handmade place that they originally we're created to be. It's extremely frustrating to search for something handmade and have to filter through all the bull crap stuff to find something genuinely handmade. Do not think buyers don't care!!

No doubt. Their robots banned me for life. I am not even allowed to shop on Etsy any more. One minute I'm getting emails telling me what a great seller I am. Getting badges for all my good shipping and customer service. And the next minute I'm banned for life with no way to even contest it. And I didn't violate their policies. If their support was human they would not have banned me. No reasonable human would have banned me for life.

It’s crazy seeing Josh after all these years. I worked with him when he was a mere business student intern (with a full head of dark hair). He gave me a houseplant when he left. Sweet. I have an Etsy shop selling POD and feel more confident that I fit into ‘designed by’ category. Now, I just need more eyeballs on my products. I hope the ‘gift mode’ era has ended.

Thanks for making this video. I watched the presentation a few days ago, but watching reviews of it has been helpful in understanding it better. One thing I’ve found is that it is hard to find a specific shop on Etsy when you are looking for one you’ve heard about. I’m both a seller and a buyer on Etsy so I’d like to see this issue improved in search.

I do not agree that personalized or customized POD products fall under "sourced" I think what they are saying is if a customer bring the design to you, it is sourced. Not if you sell a personal design that can be customized. I feel like the only change is the "prohibited" mockup with placeholder text. Etsy has always wanted transparency in the photos. They want original photos, including ORIGINAL mock-ups that ACCURATELY portray the finished product. I think people are blowing this WAY OUT OF the water! If mock-ups were no longer allowed I think that would have specifically been stated and time given for sellers to change their photos with a deadline. I think everything is the same as it was before except for the new "prohibited placeholder text/blank." as long as it accurately shows the finished product and your image looks original you can use whatever you want.

my interpretation of personalized POD under "sourced" is if a shopper comes to you and says i want you to put MY DESIGN or MY PHOTO on mug, shirt, etc.... so the seller would have no hand in the design or print.

I have seen two other videos on these updates and one, Jay's Way, shows a conversation he had with Etsy and he says that you have to select 'I made it' and then 'production partner' for POD. So he is saying the opposite of you guys. This also means that for digital sellers selling mugwraps, pngs for t shirts etc, basically things that other Etsy sellers were buying to put on merch in their shops, these people will see a drop in sales, because they are clearly stating that the artwork has to be original. So the customer base will be limited to home crafters or people with their own website, and a lot of those steal their art anyway.
@brandcreators
@brandcreators 17 күн бұрын
That has never been the proper way to setup pod products in the past and there is nothing in this update that indicates you should change it. The way you show you designed a pod product is by listing yourself as the designer in the production partner setup. If you look at the setup docs for printiful, printify or any of the other major pod companies, they show this as well. Listing it the other way put you as handmade, NOT handmade with a production partner which was the correct category for POD

@@brandcreators Appreciate all of your attention and explanation to these new rules! Really appreciate going through customization requirements as HeatherStudio explained it a different way...that photos had to be taken of every customized product. I am hoping your explanation is the correct one. Jay from Jay's Way was given the information from Etsy (a couple of times), but I thought you guys said you also got your info from Etsy. So, it is hard to know which way is correct even if the Print on Demand companies are saying to go with your way. All of my items in my shop are done your way except for the 20 I started changing after watching Jay's Way. Now I am at a standstill not sure which way to go.

Handmade sellers are complaining about Alibaba stuff. Specifically - sellers coaiming to be handmade - or production partner - that are neither and underpricing the genuine handmade ( handmade cannot compete with mass produced pricing). They are selling shirts ( finised products ) for less than the fabruc costs me. The other thing happening - is Chinese producers are stealing Etsy handmade sellers photos and selling fakes, then the Etsy AI tags the handmade seller as a liar ( because their photos are on Alibaba ). Sellers are having a terrible time catching the people selling fakes and getting their photos taken down. Miss one, and Etsy could close you shop....which is final and no one will talk to you. Just Done. I have had an item removed - for violating a standard - it did not violate. I sent pics, explanation of everything. They said - decisions are final. If a human had spoken to me I could have explained the ridiculousness of it all. It wasn't a great seller anyway - but it might be the next time..

When businesses offer free shipping, they often face a dilemma: absorb the cost into the item's price, potentially dissuading price-sensitive customers, or accept reduced profit margins. Platforms like Etsy advocate for free shipping to enhance visibility, but this can compromise transparency. If shipping costs are absorbed into the product price, taxes are also incurred on that amount. Conversely, charging separately for shipping and handling would avoid these taxes but could complicate pricing and profit calculations.

Hi guys, thanks for the clarification. I'm worried about the creative thing still. If I use a design from Crative Fabrica, or another source, but change for example, the colour of the font, of put some different texture on the design will it be ok? Or do I need to change the elements such as fonts, or include some more drawings etc?

Etsy can either Go Big or it can go back to its roots. It can't do both. When resellers of wholesale, sweat-shop-produced stuff are selling tens of thousands of items a year and buyers are buying them because they're prettily packaged and dirt cheap, no "creative" can compete. POD? Sure. AI? Sure. "Production partners" who are really those sweat shop operators in Guangzhou and Jiangsu? Sure. For too long Etsy has chased profits over people, and making creativity human again isn't going to be profitable, or at least not profitable enough for the investors. And they, far more than the makers, sellers, and buyers are the only humans who really matter to Etsy.

I crate machine embroidery designs. lol on Scotty gotta go potty!!! One thing that annoys me is the way things like Summer mode is pushed when the southern hemisphere is in winter, it is like we don't exist. As a producer of machine embroidery designs that are a digital download, I am confused about what I should be offering as my first image. At present the first image I show is the design stitched out on something, now I am not sure if I should offer the first image as a generic version of the stitched image or the design instruction sheet. I use AI as a base. Then it is finished in Photoshop and or Kittl. Sometimes I use Procreate to add embellishments. So I consider my designs a mixed media type of digital design. I don't see that as an option.

After producing 3D figures (no copyright) that I buy and download from the internet on a 3D printer, I turn them into tabletop metal objects by applying various craftsmanship (casting, welding, cleaning, polishing, oxidizing, personalization text engraving). I do not design the 3D figures. I buy them as 3D data from the designer. Which option should I choose in this case? "It's made from scratch" or "it's assembled from purchased parts" or "it's an item that my shop alters"? I added the independent artist from whom I bought the 3D data as a "Production partner" and not as a shop member. Is this correct? Or is it because I define a Production partner that Etsy puts my products in the "Design by ShopName" category automatically? But the design of the figures is not mine.

I believe things can get confused, but I still believe things like wool, clay, screws, beads, strings, ect. are supply, not finished products. Hademade product is made of diff things. A handknitted sock is not assembled product, also jewelry. It is way more than just assembling. Behind there is also a desing and also lots of hand work. Personaly I dont have a problem, but it bothers me anyway.

So if you are a POD store, you have to have your first image be of a picture you took of your product? If that’s the case it means we have to order a sample of every single product which is completely unreasonable. It days someone else can take it so if I purchase non ai generated mockup photos of the actual item I’m selling with my design on it, is that ok? This is why I’m opening a Shopify store. It’s too confusing. I get as a company their job is to make money hit you can make money AND care about your sellers. Without them you wouldn’t have a business. Just my two cents. Thanks for this video. It’s helpful to make it as clear as possible lol.

Hi guys - I've been told by Etsy twice to put "I Did" because I did the design and that denotes me having a hand in this process. We are given the option to choose production partner here as well. If we put "another person", we are taking ourselves out of making it entirely. This is what I was told by Etsy and others that I know have also been told this by Etsy. They were emphatic about the choice being "I Did" because it shows that we design it.

There is a seperate section inside of the production partner setup where you select that you designed the product. That indicates that you designed it, but someone else created it. If you look through the etsy docs or any of the POD Company docs (like Printify), you'll get a full walkthrough of the way this was supposed to be setup. Selecting "I did" previously put you in the handmade category (which is incorrect), selecting someone else and indicating your role as the designer put you in the handmade with production assitance category (which is correct for POD).

@@brandcreators thank you so much for your feedback with this. I've looked for direction inside of Etsy about this and wasn't able to find anything. I think the image policy for personalized items is about the clearest thing Etsy has ever said. I am confused about some other things but this policy is not confusing to me at all. Regardless of what they meant to say, they clearly said your image just needs to be an example of a finished product that has the customization you are offering. I don't see any ambiguity in the words at all. "your first image must feature a finished, customized item similar to what buyers will receive. This helps buyers visualize what their custom-made item will look like when completed. It is prohibited to use a photo of the blank product or a mockup with placeholder text (e.g. “Your Text Here”) as the main image." If you are offering to customize a mug with a person's name, you could use a mock-up (in line with their mock-up policies) with the name "Ann" on it, regardless of what name your customer wants you to put on their mug. It's just an example. I think that's what the words "similar to" are there for.

I sold jewelry designed by myself for years successfully on Etsy. I took a break after caretaking for my sick father and instead started selling things on ebay that I found and flipped wherever since I didn't have time to hand design jewelry. I plan to come back to Etsy now that I have the time. I source beads and finding from everywhere including old pieces that I find and breakdown for the parts. Some of the items used in my designs are vintage, new, and used. Some of my beads are handmade blown glass from another designer. Some are imported from other countries. How should I categorized my jewelry? Do I exclusively use the phrased "designed by me" or is it handmade by me?

How will these categories work for people using public domain art on printable items. I use it on cards and as printable art. First glance, I thought I could choose 'designed by' when I used it on cards because I design the card, inserts, envelopes etc and maybe use the same for curated gallery walls. I thought I could choose 'hand picked' for single pieces of digital art. Now I have seen you guys demonstrating it I guess my only choice is designed by me for everything, which seems odd.

What has really frustrated me - is looking at how Etsy has categorised my items - they are all handmade by me but a few custom items it has chosen "designed by" because perhaps their AI thinks they look POD...one of them I'd a custom note book, where I painstakingly with my HANDS place the names and patterns I printed from the Cricut on. Also my custom name cases, that I design, print, weed, prepare and iron on with my ✋️ ✋️ and it takes me hours. I emailed support and they basically said there's no way to change it now and to complete a survey 🤷🏼‍♀️
@brandcreators

It's interesting that it ended up as designed by and not "sourced" since that seems to be where they seem to imply custom items would fall.
@hsellors
@hsellors 14 күн бұрын
@brandcreators to be fair I'd rather they said designed by over sourced by, if I had to choose - I'd be fuming if it had put I had just sourced it! It seems a bit of an oversight that sellers aren't able to pick their own. Especially when AI is notoriously unpredictable where Etsy is concerned. I've updated a lot of my attributes now, to reinforce the handmade but it hadn't made a difference yet.
