I bought 2 Toyotas, after watching Scotty for about a year. Big mistake, the Toyota build quality is really poor, the paintjob looks like dinosaurscin, and if i drive 60mph and open a window halfway down, the whole window wiggles like crazy, i regeret so much listening, to that bias man Scotty, who apparently has "No clue" what is going on. I really hope Scotty will stop misleading people, and just stop sugarcoating Toyota. Toyota is a decent brand, BUT none of their normal models have ANYTHING to do with quality or comfort, its just Grey plastic, cheap made parts and rattling noises! And for Christ sake, they event put BMW in charge of making their own New flagship, IF they THEMSELVES, belived they were Better than the rest, they would have build IT themselves

I made the mistake of purchasing a Dodge Ram PU several years ago. Before it was paid in full... Transmission failed twice. Rear end bearings failed 3 times (dealer repaired 1st time) Black paint took a dump and the hood looked like a Zebra. Who thinks that white primer under a black paint job is a good idea? Cat converter clogged before it was paid off. I was happy to off it for $1,700. Never again. The name was always a joke. Do you dodge or just ram it into a wall? Nice when new but beware. It will soon turn to a heap a junk. The only thing I really liked about it was the interior. But.. even using a sun screen, the dash turned into broken potato chips.

Scotty I truly enjoy your videos. I also respect your years in the business. I went into the automotive repair business in 1980. By 1984 I owned my own shop and averaged anywhere between 25 and up to 60 cars a week in the summertime. I had a 1988 Dodge Caravan that was a rather loaded model. The wiring harness that went in the driver side door was UV sensitive. When I open and closed the door the coating on the wires actually cracked and all of the wires started touching each other. I would go over a bump in the power locks would randomly activate and then even the windows would go up and down by themselves sometimes. I have to tell you I had a Chrysler voyager for roughly 2 weeks. It was a loaner so it was heavily abused by the time I got it. This van was rocksolid very powerful an “averaged 26 miles to the gallon”! in a vehicle you could easily stack 4 x 8 sheets of plywood it! Granted there are some isolated incidents and the numbers are very low on this wiring harness issue that you’re talking about. When it comes to reliability Toyotas are great, I get it. But Chrysler is a far cry from Hyundai’s driving down the road and suddenly incinerating themselves sometimes with their occupants still inside! I have more than one customer that can attest to her suddenly that can happen in their Sorrento ‘s. The Chrysler voyager is so value priced and so intelligently equipped I was truly impressed! And let’s get one thing straight, I hate minivans! I hated by old my old Fully loaded Dodge van because I had to remove the interior to change the wiring harness! But I can tell you the Chrysler quality as jumped leaps and bounds and light years! I just took my wife’s Toyota Highlander back to have the fuel pumps replaced under a recall so nobody’s perfect! Also the rear calipers had cross threaded mountains and we’re rocking back and forth in place. They had to replace the calipers in the brackets, being a Toyota I was shocked at that one as that was simple assembly error more than likely. Chrysler has come a long way and I sure hope you recognize that someday! After all if you want a full-size sedan or coupe naturally aspirated V-8 drive vehicle and not buy a high-end BMW, Dodge and Chrysler are the only game in town! Just think about that! You can even get an all wheel drive full-size sedan or challenger! They are predominantly rear wheel drive and that’s what counts! All of GM and Ford and of course the imports don’t offer a car the way God intended! Can you imagine Toyota making a car the size of the Avalon that has the engine from the tundra, an eight speed transmission, and a limited slip rear differential? We’re talking a longitudinally Mountain drive train!? Then I would consider buying a Toyota for myself and not just my wife! Until that day the Toyota builds a car the way God intended I will not be driving a Toyota as good as they are anytime soon. Besides Lexus especially but also Toyota someone needs to put their designers on a shorter leash. When you buy a car in spite of us styling because you know it’s quality, than there’s something drastically wrong with their styling department.

Had a 2016 Chrysler 200 with 20,000 miles with two ignition coil failures both covered by recall warranty right after getting it. The second failure occurred while MERGING onto the freeway. Complete loss of engine power and nearly got rear ended. I made sure the dealership tested and repaired the others to protect against a third failure. Over 100k miles later with no issues. Check recall issues with EVERY vehicle you get and don’t hesitate to get the proper repairs and rental car service you are entitled to. Your safety is on the line.

Actually some of the big chain dealerships have a holding area and will keep their used cars there until they can get all the recalls on the vehicle fixed (if it's a safety issue or something that'd keep the car from running). I don't love those chain dealerships at all, but fixing recalls on your used stuff is a hell of a lot more than 90% of all other dealerships will do.

@EMichaelBall
@EMichaelBall 5 жыл бұрын
It can be. Have a mechanic look for the normal disqualifying stuff (INC codes, VIN swaps, hidden accident or flood damage), and on top of that, have him look for the condition of the motor mounts (especially the rear mounts), because those can wear out early for a 2008 car. There may be some engine or transmission hesitation, but that's rare. If it all checks out, then even if the motor mounts seem to be in good shape, it may be worth determining the cost of the mounts + installation, take it off the top of the low end of the KBB private party valuation estimate, and use that as a budget to buy it. As usual, make sure you see the clean title in hand before you agree to a price, and exchange the cash (or cashier's check) and title at the DMV in front of the DMV employee that'll register the car in your name.

For the AC issue, google "AC scroll valve." On our 2005 Equinox we had the same symptoms several years ago. A repair place wanted over $1000 to replace the AC compressor. An internet search revealed the scroll valve could be the main cause and at about $30 it was worth a shot. We had the repair place discharge the system and then I replaced the valve and recharged. We have had cold AC for several years now.

Hey Scotty! got a 2002 grand prix with a jacked up AC. The little widget thing in the fill port is broken and the whole system "need replaced." this is the second car I've owned that had someone heck up that port. What makles it so fragile and do I need to pay $2000 to fix it?
@EMichaelBall
@EMichaelBall 5 жыл бұрын
One must wonder if some shop owner looked at that port and thought, "Jackpot! Free money!!!" Get a second opinion. That said, perhaps GM designed it to be fragile so as to artificially increase future demand for the part = more money for them.

Hey scotty, I picked up a 1990 Toyota Camry all trac it only has about 50000 miles with the 2.0 4 cylinder and the 5 speed manual. What type of preventative maintenance do I need to perform to keep the car running over 150k miles?
@EMichaelBall
@EMichaelBall 5 жыл бұрын
Look at the transmission fluid color. If (and only if) it's red or pink, not brown or black, do a drain and fill (not a flush) with new OEM fluid that the owner's manual suggests. Then replace it similarly every 40,000 miles or so. 50k miles is pushing it for a change, but it may not backfire. Otherwise, regularly wash the undercarriage of the car during the winter and early spring (if you live where there's salt on the roads) at a carwash, and do the standard procedures the manual suggests, and you should be fine.

The factory probably uses different engineering groups. The electrical group designs the harnesses and charts out ground paths. The mechanical group says, "We have to reduce the cost of rust proofing the product." Someone thinks about it, comes up with something that uses existing production processes but is "cheaper". Maybe Procurement does a substitution based upon price. They introduce the new sealer into the process. Works fine. For a while. The production group does minimal testing. Some people noticed "problems". The problems go through the bureaucracy. By the time that they catch up there are so many units in the field. Meanwhile the production process is changed. No more issues.
@jamallabarge2665
@jamallabarge2665 5 жыл бұрын
Things get complicated when fingers are pointed. Procurement cries about their costs. The electrical group says, "We did nothing wrong". The mechanical group complains that nobody told them. Quality reams everyone out. Everyone finally agrees to contact the Warranty people. They weigh the costs of a warranty versus sales.

I have old chrysler pacifica 2006, and it's funny that I had the same problem with grounding. Strange that chrysler didn't learn from mistakes in previous models and therefore cannot improove quality. Hovewer it's the best car I had in terms of driving comfort. I have heard the rumors that suspension was based on Mercedes E class, and in back there are really many moving parts but sometimes on other cars only one straight steel pipe connects two back wheels :) So, Chrylser I hate you and love you.

Check out the transmission fluid color. If its still red or pink, not brown or black, do a drain and fill (not a flush) with OEM transmission fluid that the car manual specifically calls for. The fluid should be changed every 35-40,000 miles. Otherwise, do what the manual says regarding servicing.
