Bought a 2022 CPO PacHy w 13K miles in Dec. 2023 and the extended warranty. June '24 got the dreaded warning to pull over, "engine shutting down" on the Interstate (16K miles now). Limped to dealership, OBD reader said PCM (Powertrain Control Module) failure. When the technician diagnosed it, they said the transmission electronics had failed. Chrysler is replacing the transmission, supplied me with a free of charge loaner to drive (due to Warranty coverage). I will post an update after repairs are complete. I really like this vehicle and really want it to get operating correctly! Owned 2 previous ICE Pacificas and had zero problems.

I saw that video of the guy pulling off the highway. It was the main reason I stayed far away from the pacifica hybrid. I went for the 2022 Toyota sienna and you just confirmed I made the right choice. Sorry to hear about your situation. After spending $50000 or more on a car, this should not be an issue. I even heard the non hybrid pacifica engine sometimes just randomly stalls. It's good you are bringing awareness to the issue because Chrysler is not taking it seriously and Toyota is now giving them a run for their money

:) - I am getting rid of my 4th Chrysler van soon. It is a 2005 with 94K miles - no major issues yet, but there is NO WAY I would purchase anything from Fiat. The Pacifica plug in Hybrid is over engineered. Last spring I was almost SOL as I needed a new seat gear and the parts were MD'd. I have put a deposit down for a 2023 Sienna ....

I've heard than Sandy Munro's company worked on the Pacifica. I don't know if they worked on the Hybrid specifically, but you might want to reach out to them and inquire about the problem. They have an excellent reputation and are known for getting things done. They might have the connections to get an answer to your problem. If nothing else they might be able to put a fire under Stellantis' feet to get the job done. If anybody could fix the problem they certainly have the ability to do so. Good luck!

I own a 2020 Pacifica hybrid and have not had this issue while driving. In winter time, when parked out doors, the van will show service charge issue when I turn it on and prevent it from being put in drive or reverse. This issue doesn't happen in warmer weather. It doesn't matter if the van is plugged in or not. I haven't had time to get it diagnosed yet but it appears to be an issue with the charging system and how the software responds to it.

So this is the issue with the loose harness that now is under recall?

This just happened to my 2020 Pacifica Hybrid about three weeks ago. As I was doing 75 mph on the highway, it just shut down. It started right back up after I pulled over and stopped. For about a month prior to this the Check Engine Light would go every now and then, but would go off by itself after 30 miles or so, making diagnosing any issue difficult. There were no other issues apparent, the car ran fine. Immediately after it stalled, I brought the car to the dealer and they fixed it the next day with a software update. It hasn't happened again. They said it had to do with a POA43 error code (Drive Motor "A" Position Sensor Circuit Intermittent). The software update seems to have fixed it, but obviously the car should not have stalled in the first place. Stalling the vehicle should never be the default setting of any issue. Chrysler needs to address this safety issue.

I did watch the other video that happened on the FW. It looks like the high voltage battery was over charged. What you need to do is to make sure you are not AC charge the battery pack to full. It would help or eliminated the problem. It doesn’t look like it going to happen in the city because you are not getting enough regen to make it over charged. I hope that help, maybe charge to 60% max. (Small battery for such a large mass that can store a lot of energy giving back high regen current)

I own a 2017 Pacifica, no Hybrid, and is doing that. In the middle of nowhere a flashing D and asking to put it in P to restart. One morning did not start and changed the battery, which helped, but is doing it again. The mechanic is puzzled and says he will have to keep it for some days to find out the real problem. I call the Chrysler phone number and they said there is not any recalls for my van. Should I go back with the mechanic, or try the dealer? I did not buy my van brand new, but it had around 20K miles. Now is more than 100K.

I really like this minivan because it has plug-in hybrid. There is not much choice for minivan right now beside the Toyota Sienna Hybrid and they were back ordered for 6 months. Now I kinda of known why people are crazy about Sienna due to the safety reason lol. I'm going to keep my Acura MDX for now :) Your video really saved my time on doing more research on this car haha. Chrysler Corporate Customer Service was pretty helpful for me. A lady there named Angela motivated my local dealer to expedite needed repairs to my car. It’s a shame that many dealers can’t (or won’t?) get technicians on staff who are qualified to work on these very complicated vehicles.

Happened to me multiple times. Its been in the shop coming on two months. Waiting for new transmission. Chrysler having to buy back more and more of these. Took 3 weeks to get a loaner (a Charger GT for my family with three kids). Been such a pain and date for repair keeps getting moved out. They are def hiding something

I've had the same issue with mine. 2021 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid. Mine has happened as the electric charge runs out and I don't get any alert or service light. But I get service lights all the time... just not when the car stalls out. The amount of time I don't have that I've had to spend on getting this car fixed is awful.

Update: I haven't had this issue in past 4 month after they changed transmission. So if you're having this issue, suggest them to change transmission.

hello I have a chrysler pacifica hybrid 2021 and I have the check engine light on since Nov 15 2021 and I went to the agency and I am still waiting for them to call me to fix it today is 11 4 2022 and they have not given me an answer

My Pacifica died at 10k mi. One dealer attempted to fix. Then it broke down again about 200 mi later. I took it to another dealer, and it took two weeks, precovid btw, to fix. I haven had an issue since but then I get a notice saying that their is a recall with no fix for Chrysler hybrid 2018 battery. 12 vans have caught fire 8 while plugged in, 4 while unplugged. I will never buy another Chrysler or even possibly another American made car again. I can’t even sell the thing because the value has tanked.

@ContentMafia Have you had any issues since they replaced the entire transmission? We are trying to figure out whether to keep the minivan, or get something else that is safe and reliable. We just got our 2019 Chrystler Pacific Hybrid back after an entire new transmission was required. "Cause: transmission catastrophic failure. Correction: started vehicle and put into gear and verified noise, when put into gear loud and violent metal grinding noise coming from inside transmission, vehicle does not move at all. trans is not servicable".

i bought the Pacifica hybrid Touring L in May 14th my dealer was 500 miles away and while traveling back home i took a lunch break and after having lunch I tried to start the car and it did not start and i see the check engine light came and after the advise from the dealer's service team i switched off the car completely and then restarted it, it did restart and car started and check engine light is still on and dealer said to drive back to him as all the local dealers service team have holiday on Saturday..... After driving 100 miles back to dealer, they run some diagnostics and said they don't know what the issue is and the hybrid technician will be on Monday /Tuesday but he said the check engine light is now not showing and they said they are not going to give me the car as it may still have the issue. Since i am not local Dealer gave a another car in the same model with a different color option but with the same price....I was very glad that i was not given the same car which had issues..... I drove the new car back..now it had around 850 miles....hope i wont have any issues...?

I had this same issue but on a Lincoln MKZ regular hybrid. Luckily, I was within my window to return it and I did.

My neighbor had their Pacifica transmission die and it was really new. I hope someone else brings a PHEV minivan to market soon.

I had the same problem with my Pacifica hybrid 2022 model year. They replaced my transmission after only owning the car for 7 months. After picking up the car, we noticed a loud noise when the car engine turns on in hybrid mode. The dealership ran test for 2 weeks and determined the sound was normal. I can tell you after owning the van for 7 months it’s not normal. Have you ran into this issue with the noise? Also has your van stalled any further after the replacement transmission?

I've had issues with my pacifica as well. It's been recalled due to it being a fire risk, I'm not supposed to charge it, park it near buildings or near other cars, they admit they don't have any remedy for this issue. So far no one willing to take car back so I cam purchase a safe vehicle to drive my children in. Customer service has been poor.

Did you end up keeping the car? Im thinking of getting the Sienna to avoid exactly these types of issues....

You need to report your issue to NHTSA - hopefully force a recall.

Ordered a 2022 Pinacle Hybrid on Dec 12th 2021 and just found out is was built last week now waiting for final inspection. I truly hope these issues are resolved as this is the perfect vehicle for my family. Please let us know if they find out what the issue is!

Chrysler now has a recall for this issue. I am buying a new Pacifica and they are holding it due to this recall. This is the only plug in hybrid mini van on the market. Therefore I decided to go ahead and buy it.

I’ve had a 90 Chrysler NewYorker, a PoS. Then had a 2002 300M, even more a PoS… then in 2022 got a PHEV Pacifica… no wonder it’s the only car they still make. I will never even entertain the idea of another Chrysler.

2022 Pacifica EV 8000 miles is doing the same shut down thing while driving on gas engine. the First trip to the dealer on 4/10/2023 addressed the JAN 24, 2023 recall. one day after the recall was fixed the engine shut down again on the freeway while driving on gas, this time we got a warning first then the engine shut down. 2nd trip to the dealer on 4/11/2023 now says the transmission needs replaced. does this new transmission fix the major safety issue with the Pacifica? the dealer is claiming ignorance on this shut down issue!!! says we are the only one dealing with this issue! B.S!

I hope you're consulting a lemon law case laywer. If they can't fix the issue, you might be able to exchange for a new car or get a refund, since this is definitely a serious issue. (PS: I am not a lawyer)

Is this problem only on the hybrid models?

I was driving and the power went out. Not sure why the brakes are powered by the 12v battery but I almost lost my life, and then the power came back on and the car woke up then the car skidded for about 4 feet or more. Luckily I was only traveling about 45mph. Currently the vehicle is in the airport Chrysler dealer located in Orlando FL. This is dangerous and I wish I had known that I would end up paying so much for a vehicle and it would be in the shop more than it is on the road.

Sorry you are having trouble. We have the 2019 Hybrid Pacifica 'S' and it is wonderful. Only minor a few minor issues, but nothing more or less than the Honda Odyssey or Toyota Sienna we have also owned. Love how it drives and sounds. Wife loves it too. Only frustrating thing Keysense - what a load of C**P that is.

Update: Dealer has been working on my car since 18th April. They gave my car back yesterday with this comment "They could not duplicate the issue, however, your transmission fluid was just under half a quart low. They did top this off." The issue happened again an hour after I picked up the car :( They have no idea how to figure out what's causing this issue

We had one that had similar issues. The difference is the motor would sound horrible. The engine lite turned on. We brought it to the dealer. They kept it for 6 months and changed the engine and transmission. Worked fine afterwards. Fortunately we had loaner from them the whole time.

We just ordered a 2022 Pacifica Hybrid. Put down a one thousand dollars. Told it would take months before delivery. Now I am concerned based on your experience and fully agree this is dangerous. The technology is so new that may explain the random nature of the failure I bet. Also the inability for timely service and resolution. After your video, found a number of videos indicating the same issue and poor service response. Now I am thinking it was a mistake to order one. Not sure on my next step. Do I call Chrysler to inquire? Do I just hope it never happens to my car? Do I kill the deal?

We bought a 2022 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Limited S two weeks ago. The engine shut down/stalled while driving on the freeway and the van had a massive electrical malfunction. This happened dozens of times on surface streets as well. Chrysler took the car for a week, couldn’t “recreate” the stall and gave it back to us. The next day, back to stalling. I hope some overly excited environment lovers will watch this before blindly committing for this car and spend 50K + interest of their hard earned money! I have had similar issue with them where my car forced me to pull over and stopped completely on freeway! So far it happened 3-4 times, and i had to drop my car at the dealership every time. They said it's some misfire due to loose connection, and they fixed it including software updates! Couple of time i noticed that it has some engine or some system still running while car is off, and it asked me to service charging system. As you said my wife wasn't brave enough to record video when it slow down on freeway but we recorded this video when it completely died while sitting in our driveway! Now, after taking this car to dealership multiple time, they finally diagnosed that this issue is occurring due to transmission. This transmission is on backorder and ETA is 1 month. Originally they said we don't have loaner but after complaining to their manager, owners, BBB, Attorney Generals, open case with Stellantis etc...as per VA rules if car been to shop 3 or more time or stayed in shop for 30+ days, then it considered as lemon vehicle. So i am trying to fight with them to buyback the car or fight with them under lemon law. Overall, it seems like their negligence on thoroughly smoke testing this vehicle like other Japanese car does! Your choice of vehicle is excellent but your dealership, Darcars, is not taking care of you correctly. It is up to them to provide a loaner assuming that you have purchased that VIP Chrysler coverage. You need to call Chrysler Customer service (the number is in your owners manual) and ask that they help you get this safety issue fixed ASAP and provide a loaner. There are other dealers in your area also. The dealership in Rockville, Maryland was always has had outstanding service. Just remember what dealership treated you right the next time you go to buy a new Chrysler.

Yes, unfortunately Chrysler is a very unreliable brand and their Quality Control is incredibly poor in comparison to the Japanese manufacturers such as Toyota, Honda and Mazda. Hope they fix this problem, Chrysler has worsened since the Chrysler-Fiat-Ram-Dodge merger.

Mine just recently did the same thing. It wouldn’t start in the morning and I missed work. I had it towed to the dealer and they’ve had it for a week and don’t know how to fix it. You have every right to invoke lemon law. If they reoccur 3 times and you took it to dealership 3 times within the past 1 year, and dealers can say it's fixed and it's still not fixed you can invoke it. If they do not even agree it's an issue all.3 times you can still invoke it and have an arbitrator to settle the issue with the dealership. Lemon law will put all the burden on dealer. They cannot be bubbled up to Chrysler and dealer will have to force Chrysler to issue a recall.

good thing is that the market is crazy so you can trade it in for a gas model and lose zero money... the gas one is rather good. if you really need hybrid you should go for the Toyota, they have been doing hybrids for ages so don't have any of the issues. and yes, you are right Rockville Chrysler is complete rubbish!

This sucks. I have been considering buying 1, but probably I am better not buying Pacifica. It reminds me of Pontiac 6000 issue with ignition module. I had to keep replacing until I bought 1 with lifetime guarantee which I replace 1 or 2 times after.

Update: My car was with dealership from 2nd May to 23rd June.They changed the transmission which took a long time to arrive. They gave me regular rental meanwhile and I had to put gas at this crazy price despite owning electrical :( Anyways, I hope the issue doesn't happen again!

Take the van back.There is the lemon 🍋 law.. i wanted to purchase a new Pacifica , Took one for a test drive last week. Now learning about these chrysler issues I am think looking at the new kia Carnival.. From what I learning chrysler has major issues with this 9 speed transmission failure. (Major money out of customers pocket) chrysler also has a poor warranty. It is only 3/36 . Where as Kia has a 5/60 warranty... Bring it back and get a kia...

I live in Michigan, Leased a new Pacifica Hybrid in January 2021. I HAVE HAD ZERO ISSUES WITH IT SO FAR. repeat, Zero. Love the van. I smile at gas prices. I have to be honest, my electric bill has increased by approx. 10%. Charging time needs work, about 13 hrs to go from zero charge to full charge.

Chrysler wont fix the issue because its cheaper to pay a class action lawsuit than it is to do a recall.
