What are we going to do about Disney, Sony, Amazon, and hordes of other companies that hold interests in both media and in various other businesses? I think Emily hit it on the head when she said that people feel like what's happening now is a catastrophe. The fact that so many editorialists believe that we need more content moderation is insane. They forget that the price of democracy is sometimes you don't get the person you want, and would they still fight for more content moderation if the opposite party were in power? Or do they trust that the majority of big media outlets lean left? Including the Hill... which I wouldn't have said until recently.

@@joeterzio7175 Elon is one man with a lot of power and none of these tweets/'promises' that he's made have to be kept, legally speaking, so of course its ultimately a risky gamble. The difference is that, the Washington Post journalistically speaking, had more freedom -before and now seems obviously compelled to regularly include pro-Amazon, pro-Bezos corp narratives. On the other hand, to many people, twitter was previously Not an equal and 'free' space and now, in theory anyway, it will be exactly that. & that is why I'm personally inclined to see it as a: 'couldn't be worse than it was before' type of situation. Hope that puts your mind at ease.

I know, that was dishonest. Oligarch is not a synonym for wealthy. It refers to individuals who use their wealth to manipulate the levers of government power in a detrimental way. Musk has done no such thing. Personally speaking, I don't despise success, I simply despise people who abuse other people. And people who abuse the rights of others can be poor, middle class or wealthy. It's true, of course, that people with any kind of power--whether it be economic, social or political power--can more easily harm a greater number of people, but it's their desire to harm other people that I have a problem with not their means.

Elon has spoken on what he wants to do with it. He doesn't want it to be an open blackboard, but he DOES want to make the algorithm open, so you can see if/why a certain account or tweet is being banned or shadowbanned. He also wants the limits to err on the side of free speech rather than moderation. I agree that billionaire oligarchs need more limits and need to pay their fare share, but since that isn't happening I'm glad its my favorite billionaire that is getting on board with Twitter.

I used to think he was a bit crazy until I listened to what he said and not the way he said it. Then I realized he had sources for everything he reported on. He does an amazing amount of verifiable research. We all can be wrong when we try to guess where a particular situation is going to go. Will there be a WW3 over this Russia - Ukraine conflict? Who really knows? Alex states his opinion or best guess and he is called a conspiracy theorist but he at least admits when he was wrong. I admire his courage and his diligence. I don't agree with everything he says, but I don't agree with my best friend either regarding some current topics, but I listen and respect my best friend's right to self expression and want the same in return.

Is it me? But, 1. Elon Musk's grandfather was the head of the Canadian Technocracy Party. 2. Elon may be a genius but is he created? I mean he is not Werner von Braun and had no experience with rocket science or astronauts but runs a Nasa contracted company? 3. He wasn't an auto engineer or Henry Ford but runs that. 4. The Tech Industry is embedded with the Administration. The tech execs have a singular goal of ensuring they aren't regulated. 5. Is this contrived like good cop/bad cop interrogations meaning the tech execs get together and pretend outrage over Musk but it is about having a controlled opposition to knock out the chances of being regulated. 6. Isn't it ironic Obama is asking for more regulation for disinformation now (i.e. domestic surveillance ruse) despite politicians like Obama (keep your doctor, it was a christian video) are the sources of disinformation.
