Many of my family came home, but others weren’t so lucky. I told my mother I want to join the Air Force, I’m not even 18 and she already begged for me not to go and I said “I have just as a high chance of dying not in the military than in it.” Nothing worked so I just had to move on. I totally understand the mother’s reaction to her own son dying, I’d be both angered and devastated if I had my own kid who died in war, and I know the possibilities.

Many have posted this video. Please. Bare with me. I'm a Navy brat...my uncles also served in the Navy. I serveed in the army. I watched Navy vehicles pull up to my school to pull a classmate out after their father was positively identified during/after Vietnam. I never experienced it myself, but I do know what a family goes through when a loved one is KIA. I watch these 'family notification' videos from time to time to remind myself what I never had to suffer, and what my family never had to suffer. And I cry every single time...... we, as a nation, need to understand. It's not just those that volunteer to serve, it's also their loved ones, that pay the price
