As an armorer for 20+ years I've tried most products. The solvent works very well after a few cycles of clean & lube. What I was most impressed with is that unlike most/all others is that dries completely whereas others stay wet in nooks and crannies and mix with lube. In reality any quality lube is adequate. I happen to like these products for the odorless, non toxic and quick drying solvent. I use the HP oil for the lower reciever parts and HP Pro (thicker) for the slide, barrel and hood areas. I apply grease to areas that show scuffing, all lube is done sparingly- any more than can show a fingerprint is too much for most modern service pistols.

Most non-toxic cleaners generally take longer to do the job than toxic ones and need to give it 10 min-20 min to work. Grease on firearms are fine until you deal with cold temperatures which can cause issues with your firearms, I rarely use grease.

I love there products! The solvent I put on the feed ramp & let it set & take a undershirt & my fingernail & rub back & forth & it cleans the ramp pretty well. The HP pro oil is the bomb! Carry On

I got my sample pack in the mail today and I am very impressed. Previously my shield was cleaned with hoppes #9 and it was religiously cleaned. Hosed the feed ramp and other trouble areas and wow, it ate off more gunk that the hoppes didnt get. The barrel came out cleaner than ever as well, will be ordering more in the future!

So many oils and solvents on the market, it's hard to choose these days. I've been through quite a few products...as have most of us. M-Pro7 and their oil the LPX, have been at the top of my list for some time and they work great. I decided to give Slip 2000 and Breakthrough a shot, and have had very good success with both. Never tried the Breakthough oil, but the solvent has worked well for me. In the end, I'm sticking with M-Pro and Breakthough for cleaning. And for oiling, Slip 2000 and the LPX are my go to products.

I’d like to try those CWB. Slip 2000 is definitely on the list! Cheers brother!

Nothing works better than good old motor oil (I use full synthetic these days) and Hi-Temp Wheel Bearing grease for lube. It stays where you put it and lasts a long time. For solvent I mix 1 qt each of Odorless Kerosene, ATF and Low Odor Mineral Spirits. Costs less than $25 incl tax for 3/4 gallon! Works great for soaking and cleaning BCG for ARs etc too! I haven't bought commercial solvents or "gun" lubes for years. fwiw.

after firing my pistols and rifle, all the parts go into a 50/50 bath (water and breakthrough clean solvent) in my ultrasonic cleaner at 100 degrees for 15 minutes. it works best in there. the oil and grease both work amazingly well especially after since the oil is optimized to penetrate the metals after its been stripped by the cleaner.
@rodscrivner71324 жыл бұрын
Well spoken, clear concise information. One thing I am resistant to, is the price of all these designer oils, and cleaners. 99% Isopropyl and mineral oil, is inexpensive, and it works..I have a life time supply, and I only spent $20.00. The environment, is no worse for wear either..

try the solvent in a 50/50 mix with water in an ultrasonic cleaner. i religiously clean my glock and m&p shield, after a 15 minute run at 100 degrees the water was black from gunk i somehow didnt get. just oil the crap out of it after drying or things will rust. my shields recoil spring now has spots.

Honestly for me it’s the opposite the oil didn’t work at all I put it on my Canik and it was getting hot as hell with it after around 50 shots now the solvent I have been using for more than a year and it works really good but what I’ve seen is that it can be a little harsh on cerakote finishes usually on pistols frames like my G19 burnt bronze slide black frame when I use it on the frame it looks like the color fades but then it wears off it’s weird though

Thanks for putting up this review. I tried HP Pro a short while ago and was sold on it as I was looking to try something new. I still have some of my solvent left (MP7 Pro) and was planning to try Breakthrough's solvent but I might have to see more results. I hope you'll continue to try it and maybe even post a follow up to this review. Also, what are some of the solvents you use/used that you do like? Thanks!

Awesome John! The HP Pro is great indeed. As for solvents, I use Wilson Combat. It's been very successful for me over the years. The Breakthrough solvent continues to not impress me. I suggest looking into other, more well tested brands. Thank you and cheers!

Gun lube is a funny thing. For several years now I’ve been reading about guys who make their own based on Mobil One, the premier commercial synthetic engine oil (sorry, Amzoil fans!), and a personally preferred secondary ingredient, Tabasco sauce or whatever. Reading about Breakthrough products would seem to indicate that they, too, use a synthetic oil and some secondary ingredients. For well over a decade and a half now I’ve stayed away from petroleum-based lubes by Frog Lube-ing my guns in the spring when the humidity begins to rise. I use the Crock Pot method of application (not recommended by Frog Lube, probably so no one can get angry with them for ruining their marriage. Personally, I bought my wife a new pot and took the old one for gun use.) as it gets the stuff everywhere inside and out and then I blow off the excess with an air compressor. This is more for all-over rust prevention but is also a great lube. Then, for regular cleaning, I use Ballistol in a water solution applied from a spray bottle with a little full strength Ballistol in the slide rails. This combination of plant-based products keeps me away from anything resembling petroleum product. And it gives the metal finishes and plastic frames a terrific sheen. Ballistol also keeps my leather holster rig and shotgun shell belt, which I use for SASS matches, clean and flexible. If you have not seen the Ballistol history short on KZfaq I would highly recommend it. This stuff can be used for everything short of salad dressing.
@KSGunGuy016 жыл бұрын
Haha! I would probably stay away from it as salad dressing but I have heard nothing but great things about Ballistol. Although I prefer traditional oils and greases, I wouldn't mind giving it a try at some point. I am less inclined to do Frog Lube, but only due to personal preference. Once again, I hear it works well. I have really good luck with Wilson Combat products and generally stick to them even though the HP Pro oil seems to work well. Glad we have so many great choices! Cheers brother

I have some of their regular oil, and it's kinda okay, I like a thick oil myself. I'll probably end up picking up a bottle of the HP Pro to give it a try. I do agree that the cleaner doesn't seem to do much. I do like their grease too, I use it on my AKs.

A Glock can run without any lube whatsoever. I've tried the Breakthrough solvent and HP Pro Oil. The only negative I have is that the oil does not really stay on the metal of my Glock 43 all that well. This is especially true of the external area of the slide. On another pocket piece that is prone to rusting, the oil didn't make a difference. Nice and slick, but does not seem to stop rusting. It has zero smell as you say. Not tried the grease.

Funny your video comes out today as I gave all my breakthrough away. The oils I dont mind but for me too much out there that I prefer and works better, bit their solvent cleaner to me is like water, it doesnt clean like others...in fact after im dont cleaning Ill use some ballistol after and its like it was never cleaned, removes all kinds of stuff that the breakthrough didnt. Im pretty anal about cleaning and maintaining as well. I dont use grease so I dont have an opinion on that. Seems you have some similar experiences...

Breakthrough MIL GRADE solvent is absolutely phenomenal. Breakthrough Battleborn Grease was not really fan of at all . IMO G96 Liquid gun Grease is light years better . Breakthrough HP Pro Oil is also very good and a lot better than most . My favorite will always be G96 Products when it comes to lube but Breakthrough MIL GRADE solvent is definitely better than G96 Solvent . No 2 waya about it . I had high Hope's for the Battleborn Grease. It just burns off way too quick compared to the HP Oil or G96 Liquid gun Grease. Especially when running suppressed Carbine . I cannot argue with anyone who says they think Breakthrough HP Pro oil and Breakthrough Mil GRADE solvent is the best .
