People have to really watch this more than once or twice because it is the foundation of a healthy voice.

Breath expert in New York, Deborah Birnbaum, teaches this way. Birnbaum was taught by Caballe herself.

Hi Kajta! Your lecture on Breath managament is great. Teaching singing is one of the most beautiful things in life. Greets from a vocal pedagogue from Columbia.

Thanks for watching Christian! If you want you can have a look at my blog over at completevocalcoach.wordpress.com - it's a place where I collect my thoughts and tips on singing, teaching and learning (the video's are there too). And yes, teaching singing is fantastic! Where in Colombia are you from by the way? Colombia is on my wish-list of places to visit! Take care, Katja

Hi Kajta, I have been seeing your blog and I have found great resources there. I really liked the mini-lesson inspired in the Sivu's video. About your question, I'm from Cali, Colombia. You should come to Cali one of this days, you will love it. Have a nice day, Christian.

There's no volume; got everything on max and can still barely hear you.

+Brian Smith Hi Brian, yes that's unfortunately the case - this was one of the first videos I ever shot, and for some reason the audio settings seemed to go wrong during the upload. I only figured it out many months after having uploaded the video. Thanks for reminding me that I should upload a new one with the audio boosted :) Luckily one always learns things in the process of making something, and so I have learned to check the audio on my future videos before (and right after) uploading ;)

this is very great lesson thanks ... and god bless you :) ... one simple quest ... all we have to do is upper hand still and lower hand should move ... i mean i know i have to breathe lol

+somi semwal Hi Somi, I'm not sure I understand what your question is so let's check :) The exercises in the video are all connected to breathing, yes. The last exercise is for feeling what should go on during singing (breath support) - the area of the solar plexus ("upper hand") stays open and bulged, while the abdomen around the navel ("lower hand") moves slowly inwards in a gradual movement. In the exercise we do this on an out breath on a hissing sound, but you could also do this while singing one long note, or a phrase from any song you're working on. Hope this helps!

awesome video! :) i wonder if you could explain a bit about how to connect support with the voice! i have noticed that it could be a bit complicated! but i have some ideas, i know that the movement is there -keeping the expansion, but leting the navel go gradually in-, but the thing is, if we do a high note on neutral, then the same note on curb and then overdrive, what differences we will have on the movement? this always confuses me, do the navel moves faster on OD than neutral? and why! thx!

How do you know how much tension though? Should it feel uncomfortable? Or should it be not that noticeable? Also, how do you know if you're taking in too much air when you inhale?
@KatjaMariaSlotte
@KatjaMariaSlotte 10 жыл бұрын
Hi! What's important to remember is that there should always be movement in the abdominal muscles. I can understand that the word "tension" can lead to some confusion, because the word itself can have several meanings or associations for different people. Some singers tend to "lock the movement" when they think of "tension". In this context, think of "tension" as "activity", "active muscles". Meaning the muscles are active, but moving, not stiff. And it should not feel uncomfortable - no singing exercises should. I hope this helps!
