People with atopic dermatitis have higher rates of allergic diseases than the general population. About 50% of children with atopic dermatitis develop asthma, 33% develop food allergies and children with atopic dermatitis are at a higher risk of developing allergic rhinitis. Luz Fonacier, MD is Professor of Medicine at NYU Long Island School of Medicine. She is the Head of Allergy and Training Program Director in Allergy and Immunology in NYU Winthrop Hospital.
Dr. Fonacier is the past president of the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI) and the past chair of the American Board of Allergy and Immunology. Dr. Fonacier has numerous publications in textbooks and journals. Because of her training in dermatology, allergy and immunology, her special interest is the dermatologic manifestations of allergic diseases.
