I found your video because I've been breeding mealworms for my coturnix quail. I've never seen mealworms kept on wood shavings before. I may have to try that.
@JerimiesWildWorld

I prefer it over something like oats because wood shaving don’t get mouldy as quickly

I have had the same Oats with my mealworms for months and there is no mold...

Suggestion: I know you do not wanna put food like oats in there, but they need oats to get constant food and go through the pupa stage easily with the extra food & water. It will make it more likely to survive so you get beetles. That will mate and make your farm & population bigger. That means more food for the bird.

How would you find the eggs
@JerimiesWildWorld
@JerimiesWildWorld 4 жыл бұрын
I not necessarily find the eggs, they’re too tiny to see. But when I see beetles breeding I leave them for a week, then take them out and swap the trays around and let the eggs hatch

Jerimie’s Wild World is wood shavings good i saw a lot of people say don’t use them and people say oatmeal since they can eat it but I’m from Uk and can’t find oatmeal
@JerimiesWildWorld
@JerimiesWildWorld 4 жыл бұрын
U can use wood shavings, it’s only downside is u have to clean it a little more often. I’m from the U.K. too, just normal oats will work, smaller grains preferable. Another substrate can be coco fibre

Does dat method works for preventing grain mites?
@JerimiesWildWorld
@JerimiesWildWorld 3 жыл бұрын
I believe so since the shavings aren’t a good source for the mites and if food is taken out regularly grain mites shouldn’t come along

Wait so do u buy beatles first or meal worms and how do u know were the eggs are?
@JerimiesWildWorld
@JerimiesWildWorld 5 жыл бұрын
I buy mealworms, let them pupate. Once they do that I’ll put them on the top, let them hatch into beetles. Once I see mating, I separate the the beetles and move the top tray until I see tiny mealworms :)
