I am so excited to share the process and transformation of our Breezeway in our 1962 home 🏡 🥰
We've been working hard to turn this space into what we envisioned when we first toured the home. Today we're finally sharing it with all of you!
My name is Laura and I am a full time vintage shop owner and I've been self employed for 8 years selling my vintage finds online, in flea markets and local vintage malls. I love to resell 2nd hand and vintage items so they can live a second (or third or fourth) life!

Count your blessings, all that rain you get keeps the dust level at a minimum, I imagine. Where I live anything black outside gets coated in dust quickly and looks drab. Your surroundings are indeed beautiful.

I recommend concrete stain for the breezeway. They come in many colors. You can customize the color.

You guys have done an incredible job so far! I've carefully thrift-curated pieces since the 80's (Daddy had an estate auction business in Abilene, TX) & have continued collecting & designing with love since I moved to Dallas in 1991. Your fun & eclectic vision for this covered patio space has a classic, serene feel... perfectly splendiferous with that gorgeous backdrop of lush, green nature. ANNNND you have wildlife!!!!! Wish we didn't live so far apart... it would be so much fun to go thrifting together, swap, design, explore nature, and celebrate life!🥂 Let me know when you're hitting the Dallas/Canton area again. How about painting your breezeway ceiling a pale shade of teal/turquoise I did that to my little country store porch and everyone loved it as there are so many rainy/foggy/gloomy days in Pennsylvania but that color cheered everybody up!!

We just had our home exterior painted Urbane Bronze. The existing exterior was a faded light gray. Everyone one in my small town painted some color of gray when paining their homes, it looks nice but predictable. The bronze/brown color with a hint of gray is beautiful. It looks like a completely new home now. Paint can change the character and vibe of your home. We had to make the change because of hail storm damage and I’m so glad with the color we chose..

I've watched a few vids, and I really dig your style. You have a great eye! PS. Please don't let your pets get out, because the coyotes will kill them. We have them here in south FL, and I hear reports of it daily. 😿

Beautiful space!! Thanks for allowing us to watch the transformation! You have such good taste! (Just beware, the darling raccoons are so intelligent and curious they might amble over and examine some of your beloved collectibles). The Barred owl is an adult…I have one too. Lorenzo must learn to watch out for him/her and the coyote couple…remember, you have moved into THEIR space, not the other way around. I hope you can share the space for a long time to come.

You did an amazing job! What I admire the most is how you do everything with a money-savvy perspective. The free plants on FB tip is great! (I spent a bit on my embryo adoption and I’m going the same route for some of the things baby needs - they grow so fast!). Being so wise in what to save or splurge on is what guarantees you a home that’s both a stylish reflection of you and not a financial mess. Kudos!

A thought on the canvas butterfly covers…I’ve had great success with painting the canvas. It refreshes the fabric and allows them to be easily cleaned. I experimented with several sheens and found satin the best. Thin the coats, mist the fabric first and add a bit of fabric softener to the paint.

At our church, the concrete was refinished with a very lovely pebble look. It has made it slick free and has transformed the look. I have no idea how much it cost, but maybe you can check on that. It covered all the cracks and blemishes that the concrete had. Just a thought. Love this breezeway.

I don't know how I missed this channel but I'm loving it. I'm from PDX as well & I have one critique: if you're gonna use your outdoor space year round you need outdoor heat lamps. Even though we're a mild winter climate it can get cold, especially in rain, & it does snow. I really wanted a porch instead of back deck for this reason. Something that I could open up during the summer, screened in to keep bugs out (my daughter has a fear of all bugs) & maybe sleep on when it's hot. I really wished we had built a porch because we have raccoons, squirrels, opposums, deer & now a skunk that traverse it nightly. And we live in a residential neighborhood. Funny story: I'm a Master Gardener & someone moved here from a southern state, set up home & then complained that all of his garden plants died the first summer. Seems he thought since it rained so much here there was no need to water in summer. Ok, let's get to thrifting. Yee haw!

Omg! I cried when you painted over the brick. I love the old red brick with the dark putty colored cement. They were ants not termites? You did a great job. Loved the smoke glass. My mom collects pitchers but likes milk glass not a fan myself.

Absolutely gorgeous space!!! Love the big chunky coffee table with the beautiful couch & those teak lamps are sooo beautiful. The tear drop plant hangers are cool as well. I'm in Vancouver BC, I can relate to a long wet season. Funny when you were talking to the Owl I thought she's totally like Snow White. Haha. That's long been my dream as well to live on the edge of a forest but with a creek or river near by. Just give me all the forest friends. 😊🍁🍂💕

You bridge a plank across milk crates or cinder blocks and shim to same height as first or second step to put a ladder on step and crates....

You can use the wooden bucket as an umbrella stand. You'd probably have to line it if you wanted to prevent water damage, though.
