Benagil Cave: Portugal's Coolest Photo Spot

Күн бұрынThe Benagil Cave is one of the most popular places in Portugal's Algarve. Early this morning, I hopped in a kayak and paddled there for photography.

On today's travel photography vlog I headed out to Benagil Cave. It's a pretty short kayak journey, but it still feels like a bit of a mission. The caves are one of the most photographed locations in all of Portugal. But, it is hard to get camera gear out there. Most people take boat tours. I wanted to be there for sunrise, so I kayaked. It turned out to be an epic experience.
I'm very excited to have a kayak now in the Algarve. It means that I'll be able to photograph a lot of these hidden caves along the coast. It should make for some awesome experiences - and vlogs.

That looks like such a great astro location. Nellie and I have actually been to the top of that cave. Wonder if with the proper tides you could camp in there. Assuming it stays dry enough.

Put your camera bag in a dry bag and tether it to the kayak in case of capsize. That way you are not putting yourself at risk having it on your back. You could also consider a footpump or if you don't want to expend the energy a cordless rechargeable pump. Enjoy.

Canadians wear life jackets in canoes/kayaks - especially when travelling in inflatable boats for the first time. :-) Be safe out there.

I've done the tourist cave boat trips from Carvoeiro right along that coast to Marinha beach. Benagil cave left me close to tears its so awesome

I take photos on my kayak all the time, get a Hobie kayak, it is foot pedal so you can fish and take pictures while you are on it, and it is way faster than the oar ones for ocean. Also look into the Inrigo camera bag, it is pretty much a lifejacket plus waterproof bag.

I don't think I've ever seen a kayak which can fit in a backpack before. The cave looked really impressive! I'm glad you got there before everyone else did!

Great video! And what a location! I was on that beach about 3 years ago, but unfortunately didn't go to the cave. With a cayak it must be epic!

It did. But, the mechanics of filling it are strange. Makes it hard to get more air in.

Cool video, I can see the next one being I bought the r5 because the eos R is at the bottom of ocean. Make sure you’ve got enough air in your dry bag for it to float or add a float. Enjoyed the adventure beautiful location.

been there.... sadly to late... cave was full with tourists. I always wanted to time another visited to coincide with the sun setting or risng right outside the cave-openings... But for some reason life happened and I forgot all about it.

Went out last night to get so e astro shots but the moon was to bright, but i was focused more on the low level clouds that we had at night

You know Brendan, I'm from the Algarve and always wanted to go there and do some shooting, specially astro, but never did. Mainly because ppl tell me it's always overcrowded... maybe after midnight it'll be a good time???? :D

nice photos but...no life vest and a kayak that does not appear to be fully inflated and "hitting the open sea" then having ago at swimmers without life vests.

theres a cave thats only accessable at low tide if you paddle to the right that is nicer than Benagil cave

before you started talking about making it a pano shot I was like why don't you just do a pano to get it all in the photo lol. that ocean looked nice and calm for a paddle , I live on the shuswap lake in BC and its not even that calm most of the time haha.

Referencing your recent safety video... When I shot that cave, there was a guy standing on the rim of the "skylight", looking down! I don't think he realised he was standing on just a thin ledge. Be safe!

You can actually go up there and there's a barrier. I've looked down. It is less "sketchy" looking from the top.

Love to kayak and have only recently begun to trust myself with a camera out while in the water. Definitely worth it on some paddles. Great location and awfully nice of someone to walk that perfect line of footprints for you. On a secondary note, I’m not one to begrudge you some income and maybe it wasn’t in your control, but a 12 minute sponsored video with 4 ad breaks is a bit much.
