I love this. She seems so blown away that JOHN MAYER is on her stage, and he seems happy to be sitting in on BRENNA WHITAKER'S BAND. Genuine admiration and respect from both parties. What also strikes me is how much John Mayer sounds like John Mayer, someonelse's guitar someonelse's amp, the tone is in the fingers.

This is what I love about the dude, getting up in a restaurant and getting roped into a really sweet little jam. Love that KZfaq is crammed full of this. Whether it's something low key like this, tearing it machine gun style at the blue note or drunkenly shredding AC/DC in a bar in Cabo. Not to mention rocking up with Billy Joel last month, Rolling Stones, Jay-Z. What a total dude.
@ArnaudFTW8 жыл бұрын
+thchruan Dude I thought I had seen every JM performances out there and you were joking about the Cabo thing... Well that was a cool discovery ahah
@catteadams8 жыл бұрын
+thchruan exactly how did he get roped in? He sent up a note saying he wanted to play. Typical Hollywood.
@thchruan8 жыл бұрын
+Catte Adams haha. Yeah, how cynical. Look how jamming with that house singer and band makes them so feel so miserable and put upon. Clearly ruins their night. Using the guys old guitar and being a huge musical star and writing a note when out to dinner. If you follow what the note says and the actual events on stage where he borrows the guys guitar it appears fairly spontaneous after he goes up and says how insanely good the house band are and the audience heckle him to "play something", if it was pre-meditated it's pre meditated when he writes the note eating dinner ten minutes before. Hollywood, being all creative and spontaneous and collaborative. Bah humbug. Haha
@thchruan8 жыл бұрын
+Fark crazy, right? There's so many out there. Love the blue note and the bill Joel ones from this year too. Not to mention all the Rolling Stones ones. The one where he smokes Slash is pretty cool.

What’s a generation? Do you count Guthrie Govan in as ‘in the generation’ of John Mayer? Than I have to say someone like Guthrie is at the highest level anyone can reach on an instrument. He can play anything he wants. Anything he needs, at the time he needs it. So can John. For me, they’re both great players. Guthrie is the best master of the instrument. Which makes him to me ‘the best guitar player of his generation’ John has a much broader audience with the music he plays. So more people know him, love him, respect him. But more importantly he is a master of the instrument, the master in using what he knows to make music. He has feel, time, technical skill, understanding of a band as a whole. So , in the end I can’t give him credits as the best guitarist of his generation. Because that’s Guthrie ;-) But he definitely is the best (pop-) musician who understands what a lot of people like in music. And when the time comes, he breaks out of that and becomes John, the little 13year old who just wants to play guitar, all day, all night. And there is where the magic happens
