Play guitar for 5+ years and try to have a 30 min focussed practice session for every day you play the guitar. You'll be able to improvise and have fun in no time! Practice even more and longer and you might get to play close to this level too
@jimjmcd4 жыл бұрын
I know. But if play like that, you're just gonna have to put up with the money and the fans. That's the price you pay.
@gusreece47134 жыл бұрын
@@jimjmcd There are several 1000s of players who are as good as, if not better than John. (Although he is one of the upper blues guys). These 'bedroom players' are unheard of because they don't fall under the type of genre, style, personality that Mayer exudes. He is rather popular with women because he sings somewhat meaningful, relatable lyrics. This markets him as the most followed guitarist on instagram. I'm not expecting another person who plays as good as Mayer to have nearly as much success as him. It is rare in this day and age to see a solo rock-blues guitarist who has a large following of fans, fame and money.

Growing up, my older sister always told me to listen to John Mayer because he's such a good guitar player. I finally gave him a chance years ago and was blown away. He is finally starting to get the credit he deserves in the guitar community. Go to a music store and listen when someone plugs in an electric. 75% chance you are going to hear some Mayer.

Maybe you can't motivate yourself because it's not something you really want to do. People tend to lie to themselves all the time about what they wish they could do, but in the end, in their free time everybody does what they really want to. If it's something you really connect with, you won't have to summon immense amounts of effort to motivate yourself to do it. You'll just do it, because it's what you love to do.

Hearing the music flow through John like this brings a smile to my face .. that’s what it’s all about
I really notice mayer’s tendency to bend up that minor 3rd (not so) slightly in this vid. The way he plays with that all the time in ever so subtle ways adds a ton to what makes the sound his own
@gino90254 жыл бұрын

What I love about John Mayer is he knows how to play the target notes of a chord without playing a whole bunch of notes. I hear that Albert King solo feel on the first track. At 12:58 was most enjoyable, when John figures out he's in the wrong key, it's happened to me alot of times. Clarence Gatemouth Brown, John knows his blues history.

Modelers clean up with volume just fine. _You have to turn up the physical speaker volume, commensurate to how you would on an analog amp/cab to experience it._ It's the physics of soundwaves/gain/feedback. For example, it is not possible to have natural feedback wearing headphones, or playing at a whisper 6 feet from the speaker. The pickups need to "hear" the sound-pressure waves of the speaker. The "clean-up" myth deals with a similar principle in a different way. Since the benefit of a modeler is the ability to get a great sound and feel at lower volume, people tend to drop them to whisper volumes. This creates confusion like we have here. Players will then turn up the gain in the model to compensate for what they're not hearing. This then makes it harder for the model to "clean up" with the guitar's Volume knob. Lower the model's gain or volume feature, and turn up your power amp or FRFR powered-speaker for more actual volume, more moving air. Can't speak for other, cheaper products, but Fractal Audio products have nailed component-level modeling and still improve the FW constantly. Getting sharper, and sharper. Any tone, any feel, can be mirrored digitally. There is no magic in analog. It's electrons and EQ. Bias excursion, cathode squish, class operations, sag, all these electron behaviors can be modeled digitally. If humans can shoot a supersonic ICBM out of the sky with software running 1's and 0's, or land a rover on Mars with a "sky-crane", we can certainly mimic the sound of an elementary electronic circuit.
