In episode 77 of the Desire To Trade Podcast, I interview Brent Penfold, a futures trader based in Sidney, Australia.
Brent began trading when he joined Bank America as a trainee dealer in December 1983. It didn’t take much time for him to become fascinated with the markets.
These days, Brent is a licensed Futures Adviser, specializing in trading index and currency futures, but also trades a diversified portfolio of 16 markets across 8 market sectors. What’s most interesting about his trading style is that he is usually done trading by 9:30am and has the rest of the day to concentrate on his research.
I personally found out about Brent as I came across his book The Universal Principles Of Successful Trading, which I’d highly recommend.

Thanks for this video. Really grasped the importance of risk ruin! 1. Math 2. Be the best loser! My key takeaway is that you have to backtest your strategy so that have data and math on your side. Only then can you improve and be successful as a trader. Aim to be mechanical trader as much as possible as it helps to remove human emotions which often interfere with our trades.

I dont understand, how do you trade with a zero percent risk reward? Isnt risk inherent in every trade? Woudn't 0% risk mean that you have to have a strategy with a 100% success rate?

You usually can't start at 0% risk but you can have a 0% trade when you move your stop loss to break-even. More on that here: www.desiretotrade.com/a-simple-trade-management-strategy-to-get-more-profit/

What Brent talks about is the risk of blowing up your trading account. You make this 0% by risking less on each trade.

100% mechanical rules allow you to produce a 100% accurate backtest but unfortunately, you can't make money from a backtest. I'm aware that mechanical traders usually don't like to admit that the only real statistics they can produce about their models is from the stats they get with live testing. They have their biais, but I still liked this video a lot!

Stops and targets are of minor importance as long as they are not absurd tight or wide. If you select good setups then you will make money with nearly all stop/target combinations. If you select bad setups then you will lose money with all stop/target combinations
