I’m a veteran infantryman but I learned something from this. I didn’t realize you could pull that seam out and put mags in that bandolier.

It's funny that I stumbled across this. I'm a vet from the Desert Storm era; and even back then, nobody taught us about the proper use of the speed loaders then. I can recall seeing those things thrown away as trash, and littered everywhere throughout the field on exercises.

Dang I'm sitting here like "why would they do that it seems pointless." And then he'd explain why and I would just sit there mind blown thinking "Damn, that's genius."

Army E-5 here. Very good instructional video for Soldiers and Marines who are not combat arms. I am a firm believer that we should master these basics before our MOS. I'll definitely be using these videos as a training aid with my soldiers.

~~( A HELPFUL TIP )~~ Load two tracer rds. in your mags first then top them off to 30 total if you are planning on using them soon. If you plan on storing your mags loaded, only load 28 rds. total. The tracers at the end of your mags will remind you to reload just as you run dry. Thanks for the info, please keep the good info flowing.

We used to load magazines by ramming the stripper clips on the edge of the ammo table, saving injury to our thumbs. Loads pretty quickly that way too. Tap the magazine on the table to assure all the bullets are seated properly and yer golden. Pretty clever using the mg ammo bandoleer straps with knots in them to carry the ammo cans over yer shoulder.

The new style bandoleer has a feature the older style didn't have. Old bandoleers had 6 pockets containing two 10-round clips each, total of 120 rounds. But did not have the extra space to make the bandoleer a magazine holder after the removal of that loose string. That is a great idea. Plus the newer style having 4 pockets containing 3 each 10-round clips, totaling 120 rounds. Seems to take less space when slung over the shoulder. Plus the loose string/magazine holding capability. Wonderful idea. Things are getting better all the time.

I can't speak for Marines. But for Soldiers these days it seems like they lack a lot of field craft skills due to massive amounts of online training these days. Most can't change a tire.

My pops recently passed he was a recon marine in vietnam he raised me like a drill sargeant watched platoon and full metal jacket like it was religion the full essence of once a marine always a marine he was borderline psychotic but he loved us he fell off the wagon hard towards the end and is in peace now he always introduced me as his devil pup he never talked about his service but he never had to there are people coming out the woodworks ive never known telling me hes a great marine whos now leading gods armies and he was a yrue american hero these videos are helping me in a weird way to find solice in his passing just knowing that even when all the other military branches are loosing it the marines are still the marines thank you for your service .... for those wondering i have no info on rank or anything like that just that he went through training at paris island and a dude died during live fire exercises because he got bit by a snake in the face in a mud pit only stories he ever told me and my mom pulled life support per his wishes that he never be with all the tubes it took hour inkept my promise and never let him linger and didnt let hin die alone it wasnt quick or painless or easy he had fluid in and around his lungs it took a while and despite the best efforts of hospital staff was not able to be made comfortable enough to make it peacefull but hes in a better place now his demons are vanquished and i now move onto trying to due his service to this country justice by libing free and happy and raising my dauhhter with everything he taught me

These kids need to be shown these things there lives depend on it

Very interesting vid. Had a buddy in the Irish Army who pointed out each infantryman carried a 100rd belt of 7.62 in a specific pouch to feed their machine gunner.

Brent's right about newer Marines not getting trained in these techniques. I went through School of Infantry in 2013 and they didn't teach us any of this. I seem to recall the only hint we ever had regarding these mysterious stripper clips was from a student NCO(there were POG NCOs on their second term of enlistment going through SOI so they could become infantry) briefly describing their use to us privates. Now I can't decide which taught me more, SOI or Brent's videos.

I had used the strippers and speedloader when I was in the Army, but I never knew until now about pulling the thread out of bandolier to have extra mag pouches or using the strap in the MG ammo can. Good info

I always loved the use of the bandolier to hold mags! In the shootout in Heat I loved how they had that bandolier tight to their bodies underneath their suits! Love loading mags with the speed loaders but jammed my fingers plenty of times.

The Lula Strip loader is top notch! easy to use and fast as hell.

I always just used another magazine to push the rounds down, that way i can let it run next to the clip for more leverage. Also doesn't cut my fingers.

This videos 5 years old but it's still helpful. I was finally able to find some speed loaders and this video helped me make sure I was using them properly.

The only time I recall speed loaders being explained in boot was when the drill sergeant explained it to me and 3 other guys who got stuck on mag loading duty one afternoon, none of the other guys learned about it as far as I know.

I did not expect to be fascinated by this video, but I was. I'd like to think I could've figured out the stripper clip bit, but I wouldn't have thought to pull the thread out to put full mags in, and I seriously doubt I would have thought of the safety pin if the strap was too long (I would have just tied a knot in it lol). This is powerful information. The devil is in the details. Definitely want to add a speedloader and stripper clips to my bag now. That was amazing how fast you reloaded that mag. With practice you could get that mag reloaded in seconds under fire. Thank you.

Its unreal to me they don't teach that anymore. I was shown that day one at the range at fort Knox. Sad really what they sacrifice for speed.

I may not be in or never was in the military, but there is one thing I believe - never throw out your stripper clips. Who knows, maybe the next supply of ammo will be just a pile of rounds in a bag.

I remember the blisters from spending all day reloading and handing out mags on range days.

One of the things I'm looking to design is an impact resistant pack that can hold pre-loaded M4 magazines in addition to pre-prepared ammunition. Taking feedback from my late father who served in 5th Special Forces Vietnam and was also a Korean war vet as well as my older cousin who was with first air cavalry Gunship pilot during the Vietnam conflict. Plus my own personal experience with ammo resupply during a firefight. Time is a valuable commodity..... The battle of Fallujah is a key example of the need for my design. Not only ammo but hydration and medical gear, MRE's This is needed for our Military

Somethinng all of us need to think about is we may be instructing these very things to a group thats had limited or no training. In the videos I've seen so far are simple things I was taught a hundred years ago that may not be being passed on or learned in the first place. There was a lot of what I'll call field expedient training that I had to learn. I'm a new sub and I'm a bit impressed.

Those speed loaders/spoons can be a bit tricky. About 5 years ago I was introduced to the StripLULA. You can load a 30rnd Mag in about 30 seconds or less. I keep one in my kit. They are not that expensive either. Just an FYI... Also good vid thank you...

Can you buy ammo in this configuration still or is it mostly military use?

I'm an army national guard avionics mechanic. We rarely will see combat if ever. Yet we're trained on every infantry weapons system the army has. Excluding grenades and rocket launchers. Those we had in basic. I had a Sergeant who was previously a marine for 8 years then went into the NG and I believe was an MP? Then came to aviation. He took the time to show me how my pouches should be placed on my body armor. No one used the Molle bandoliers that we were issued. He made sure that if it held mags we had it on our person and easy to access. I think I ended up with the ability to hold 10 M16/M4 mags. He said that if you have space for a mag bring it. I'd rather have too much than not enough. He was part of the Iraq invasion in 03' among others. It was just a handful of times he taught me a few of these things. He transferred to another unit just recently. Now I'm stuck with POG's who don't know a thing about this stuff. I've been assigned to a Downed Aircraft Recovery Team (DART). It is more likely for me to leave the fence and knowing this stuff is helpful.

This is one basic skill, but it just goes to show our younger fighting force is less effective out of basic than it could be. it's getting worse the more we have to coddle the soft & weak (prizes for last place) One guy out of the fight trying to reload can mean the difference between going home or not. That's why training is so critical. Muscle memory is reflex, reflex is a life saver. Glad you are helping teach a simple but critical skills to our younger defenders.

lol I always wondered why 5.56 came on strippers.

I served with the Marines in the mid 1980's, attending what was then called ITS at Camp Pendleton. Had lots of live-fire exercises so had many instances where we had to load our magazines. Unfortunately, speed loaders were very rare to come across, so you almost always had to remove the rounds individually from the clip. If you were fortunate enough to find a speed loader, (if you were the first person to break open a case of ammo it was the first thing you looked for) you held on to that sucker and didn't let it get out that you had one. There were also live-fire exercises where you had a 1 in 5 tracer mix, so it was just easier to load the rounds singly.

I learned something from this.. I buy XM193 5.56 in 420 round ammo cans and never could figure out how to use the stripper clips that they come in so I single load my mags by hand. I'm going to do this now. Thanks for showing this.

Simple fieldcraft was what made life in the field so much easier. Back in the early 80s I relied on Vietnam vets and they knew a ton of stuff and I still remember them.

My old Battalion Commander would give you an Article 15 for having your BDU tailor fit to your torso like that haha. The BDU was meant to break up the shape of the human body. When we first were transitioning from our old OD Green Fatigues to the Woodlawn pattern BDU uniform in West Germany in the 1980's our Bn Commander had to put out a directive that the next person he caught wearing starched and ironed BDU uniform would be getting an Article 15.
