Brett and Heather (greetings from WA), i dont usually post but i thought you needed a bump up; I've long appreciated your perspectives on the Covid development. The Weinsteins are empirical materialists, exactly like Sam Harris. Empirical materialism denies a rational, objective reality in favor of an irrational, subjective reality. Only a Pythagorean, Leibnizian, Godelian, mathematical, rationalist idealism recognizes free will, mind, life and the objectivity of reality.

I'm exactly the same. The anti-Trump stuff really started to get on my nerves when he would shoehorn it into literally *every* episode somehow, but then when his stance on Covid lacked *any* scepticism, I lost faith. Fast forward to him saying 'Hunter Biden could have the corpses of children in his basement - I would not have cared...' and I have to figuratively pull my jaw from the floor. "You're at the end of my patience". That's a mic drop right there. As far as I'm concerned he has been far beyond what patience he might have once deserved for a really long time now. He has been wrong about absolutely everything, and yet he has been lashing out in really bizarre ways against the people who were right. I don't even think he deserves your courtesy or your time, but you still offered it to him nevertheless. So if he really thinks he has any valid point, this is his opportunity to prove it. He knows that he is going to be completely annihilated by your superior position, because he's simply wrong, and he can't admit it.

I thank Sam for igniting my curiosity all those years with his books and podcasts and for introducing me to the likes of Jordan Peterson and Bret Weinstein in those legendary panel events in Vancouver. I’m now over Sam Harris. It took a lot. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt every chance I got, but now, with his underhanded victory laps over those that got Covid right in all the places he got Covid wrong, I simply can’t trust his mind to to fairly assess what is true. Good on Bret for giving him a chance to redeem himself with a good ole conversation in good faith, but my guess is Sam will decline having already labeled Bret as an Alex Jones type, dangerous and bad for the world. Amazing Sam’s backwards evolution. Maybe Bret and Heather can speak on the phenomenon when they finally see fit not to be so nice anymore.

It's ironic that Sam Harris started his making sense podcast because he wanted to have "difficult conversations" with people. He observed, quite accurately, that there is currently a widespread breakdown in conversation in society, and his podcast was designed to be a countervailing force against this breakdown. Yet he has struggled to maintain basic civility and ongoing conversations with people who were formerly friends and colleagues, or people with whom he would otherwise talk constructively. And the breakdown in these relationships seems very much to have been on his initiation.

Man, I remember back in high school and college Sam was my gateway to the deep conversations we all crave. Like many, I had my athiest/religion phase and youtube was still growing to become a space hosting debates for the arguments. Sam was my favorite intellectual followed closely by Richard Dawkins due to their more humble approach to conversation (at least in my view at the time). While the edgy athiest in me at the time enjoyed Christopher Hitchens “destroying” creationists in debates, Sam offered something more. He was a gateway to other deep conversations I never had anywhere else with talks regarding free will, meditation, morality, ect. If it wasn’t for him, I may never have discovered others like Jordan Peterson (who I hated in the beginning due to Sam’s influence) and now my favorite people in the world outside of my family: Bret and Heather. It’s been a ride, and thankfully I’ve ended up here and not stuck there. Sam was never all I thought he was, but now he’s certainly taken a turn for the worse. It’s a shame.
