That cat idea doesn't sound so bad, to be fair. Obviously, someone else needs to be involved to switch carriers, but I can see that working. It may not necessarily work for Bret, but that would be a good spot for a comedic heel.

@@theraVen27 We're talking WCW Hogan. Had Hogan just put over Sting after 18 months of build, WCW could still be around today. Hogan needed to know when it was time to put the right person over and/or share the spotlight. Even when he put over Goldberg, Hogan was still in the main event most of the time. Then once Nash beat Goldberg that was it for Goldberg too. I don't deny Hogan's talent, just some of his politics killed WCW and contributed to enough fans jumping to WWF.

I met Mr. Hart in Alaska around 2018 or 2019 at a wrestling event and meet & greet. The experience was great. I had a real eye to eye contact with him and really got his attention and gave him a good handshake then told him thank you for what he did as a wrestler and entertainer and that I lost my father almost 20 years ago and he and I would watch some good matches and that he (Bret) was my favorite wrestler of all time and such an honor to meet him. So as I sat to get a picture on my phone for some stupid reason it wouldn't work and I said to him no worries that meeting him and shaking his hand was good enough and I was so in the moment that I forgot my good friend was there and said he'd take a picture for me and Bret insisted so I got my picture taken with him 😊 As I went back to the bleachers and as I watched the line shorten I remembered that they were selling both a picture and his bad ass shades and I really wanted them but I only had $20 left to my name. But I had been joking with the security guard that was standing at the spot to get down to where Bret and the other wrestlers were so I asked if he would let my slid on back down before they finished and I wasn't sure if he would but he did and when I got to where he has there were about five people left so I started a conversation with his son (nice young man) and as the last person finished I caught Mr. Hart getting out of his seat and again made eye contact and asked if he remembered me on line. He told me had with a true honest look in his eye and I thanked him again and asked about the photo and what it cost. So he sat back down and told me to talk to a guy behind me (watching the whole time) and the man told me $40 for a photo and $20 for the shades. So I all of sudden put a bit of awe bummer look on my face because I really wanted a photo but smiled and said "well I'll take the shades then, who do I pay". So the man points to Brett's son. I turn around give his son $20 and turn back to Bret and as I turn around I see him signing a picture for me handing both glasses and signed photo, smiles at me and what looked like a little here you go wink and told me thank you. I'll treasure that moment for as my mind is alive 🥲 When the introduced him half way through the show he mentioned something in the fact of meeting fans he great encounters with and he wouldn't forget. I felt like I was quit possibly one of those great fans 😌😏 Thank you again Mr. Hart to you and your family 💖 Hitman strong 💪💔😏

I think the mistake they made with Bret was having him join the nWo. He could have gotten over as a big face. They could have had him come in, cut a promo on "up north" and then talk about how much he respected WCW for old time wrestling. He then could have said the nWo were a group of guys that want to destroy tradition in wrestling, like up north (because basically nWo was like code for WWF and sports entertainment). He could have laid out a challenge to any nWo member for a match next week. Then he could have started with easy wins over Vincent and then gotten up to mid cards with run-ins in matches with Buff, etc. Eventually leading to feuds with Hall and Nash and eventually Hogan at a Starcade. But of course, those guys wouldn't do that.

That is because the Booking was always extremely one-dimensional and basically what you described is sorta what they did with Goldberg. I dont disagree with you tho. Although I want to say, that I always would have loved to see him in a antivillian role, like being heel but for actually understandable and justifiable causes. Like him being so upset about the screwjob that he says "never again" and consequently goes on to win his matches "at all cost" meaning he would start to play dirty and outplay his opponents on a meta level (like he did with goldberg and the steel bodyprotector) and just be like this wrestling machine that does not shy away from anything to get the win and make sure he will "never again" be screwed over. You can eventually even integrate him into the nWo for all I care later down the line in some scheme he hatched out to try to destroy them from within and replace them with his own faction of goons, which would have played into the nWo Wolfpack storyline. Honestly they could have done anything with him and it would have been better than what they actually did (or didnt) do with him.

Not to mention they could've wrote it so that until he hit a certain level of guy, nobody really came out to interfere but once he really started getting into them and making a real ruckus, they could have someone come down to try and stop him, and have him overcome the interference to still win. Anything to have the nWo be challenged and presented with new obstacles to overcome.

People don’t realize that Bret, as a young wrestler was booking Stampede Wrestling for his father. He would journal the angles and figured out what worked and what didn’t. There are valid reasons why Bret can see a bad angle or potential for doing good business with talent. Let’s not forget he pitched the Ladder Match, his storyline with Owen Hart, he pitched his Canadian Hero angle, and he pitched his match with Davy Boy Smith in Wembley. Hulk Hogan v. Bret Hart would have been money, but additionally he could have had great matches with Benoit, Scott Hall, Lance Storm, Mike Awesome, over the US title, or for the World Title with Kevin Nash, Booker T, Scott Steiner, Jeff Jarrett, Sting, Ric Flair, Sid Viscious, etc.

Hogan v Bret DID actually happen as a match but it was a terrible throw away match on Nitro. The angle was brets knee went out and couldn't continue. So it may as well not been a match. I'm sure there's a funny story in here somewhere, but I've reached the tipping point for how much I can listen to Bret like this. While this video is 2 years old, they are still coming out on a weekly basis, either recycled/freebooted, or occasionally as new shoot interviews covering the same old ground. I'm not pointing the finger solely at Inside The Ropes, most wrestling channels are doing it. I think it's long overdue that wrestling content creators start discussing whether they, as a community, want to focus on Bret's legacy as one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, or the revenue from propagating and feeding his bitterness and the heat he has with others in the industry. You can't really do both, at this stage his legacy has definitely been tarnished by interviewers continually giving a platform and questions which are only aiming to get that soundbite. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a Hitman fan who wasn't at least a little sad about how bitter Bret has become. He bears the ultimate responsibility for his mindset and responses, but he's not the only person responsible here.

To be fair to Bischoff managing just Hogan's ego alone especially with his creative control clause in his contract was difficult enough but when you factor in all the other stars they had at the time it becomes nearly impossible to satisfy their ego's AND satisfy the fans as well

I think the El Dandy promo makes a lot of sense in this context. I can totally imagine Eric Bischoff (or, rather, someone like Vince McMahon) hearing Bret make a lot of requests for different people and force him to make a promo about it as a rib.

During this time in my Youth, i was thinking....... dam... WCW just won the lottery with Bret. And not only because its BRET. But, the fact he got screwed and never really lost the WWF belt at the time. Kinda still made him the WWF champ. SO if anything, Eric could've made Bret a WCW champ soon as he arrived, and he would've been an undisputed champion of sorts. But, then again, it is WCW i am talking about at the end of the day.

When Bret says Bischoff and Russo dont know anything about wrestling. The Networks say the same thing about wrestlers. Ive read or heard in some interviews from others that the the specific reason Jim Herd was put in charge way back post 1988 is that (with the exception of Turner himself) TBS executives believed "wrestlers dont know how to run a company".

Not sure why he'd bash Vince Russo. Beyond the good stuff he wrote for him in WWF: Russo intended to build the entire WCW roster around Bret and push him back to a position of prominence. Which he was in the process of doing when Goldberg ended his career.

Bischoff went to bret who was a baby face obviously in Canada but in general and said to bret I want you to go out there and tell all the fans you dont need um. Bret was like why would I do that and Eric said because that would fool everyone lol. No follow up no rhyme or reason just yeah go do that and next week we will figure something out lol

I met Bret at a Giant Eagle grocery store in a suburb of Pittsburgh in the mid 90’s. I was browsing the bill candy section, (they still had it back then), and I saw a man picking root beer barrels out, unwrapping them, throwing the barrels away and eating the wrapper. I was perplexed, I asked him, “What gives?” He told me there is enough flavor stuck to the wrapper to assuage his sweet tooth and not grow a lumpy assSo brilliant! Changed my relationship with candy for the rest of my life. I started doing the same thing, within 6 months I had a major bowel obstruction and had to have 6 feet of my intestines removed, along with my colon. I now make bowel movements in a colostomy bag, but I never gained another pound and was able to kick my diabetes. That man eating the wrappers is, was, and always will be my hero. That man was Bret Hart.
