I tried these methods and was surprised how much I sounded like Hendrix. Well, his style that is. Haha. Took me about 15 minutes, just like you said. I'm playing an A major, B minor, D major and skipping the C# minor. It's easier for me. I also found that holding my thumb over for every chord works the best for me, sliding it up and letting those bass notes ring out. Awesome lesson Papastache! I'm having tons of fun with it.

I think Hendrix tone as "metallic" "tingy" "raspy" clean, but distinct notes. HOW DO U GET THAT TONE?? Is it pickups? Like 60's? A certain pedal, certain amp?? Similar to SRV raking technique, sounds like metal on metal...HOW?? MY strat into blues junior great, but just crazy clean, or rock Overdrive/distortion.
@jeudieleslavavelasquez8410
@jeudieleslavavelasquez8410 4 жыл бұрын
Normally, Hendrix gear is not very complex. A decent strat, a fuzz pedal or a wah and a Marshall. Still, I can get a pretty similar sound with a Tagima "Jazzmaster" with P90's and a Vox amp with the gain on 7.
@jeudieleslavavelasquez8410
@jeudieleslavavelasquez8410 4 жыл бұрын
Before I forget, pay more atention to the volume and the pots levels. Do not use the whole volume, keep the pots half warm, half clean. Also, use the middle and neck pick up for better results. Sorry if all this nonsense has some errors, english is not my first language.

those single coils is the sound. hit em hard to get that tone
@225haloman
@225haloman 2 жыл бұрын
I'll give you the short and long versions: Short: tone control and hendrix used a fuzz instead of a drive pedal. Long: try using single coil pickups and set your volume to about 7-8. Tone at 5. Use a fuzz pedal with not too much gain and slide your volume on your guitar down until you get a little bit of clean coming through. Now make sure your Amp is set to have a mid pushed eq and a decent amount of treble. Make sure you are using dynamic picking and emphasizing certain noted. Should get very close

After years of not playing (nerve damage), I started up again, but focusing on chord soloing, stylistic rythm and NOT torturing myself with hours of scales and exercises. That's how I damaged myself in the first place. It's videos like this that gives me other things to try with my limitations (can't feel my pinky). The little finger still remembers where to go when playing chords, but leads, scales and bends with that finger are hit and miss. I'm gonna keep coming back for these little tid bits. I've almost got my rig back to where it was 20 years ago and I've got my Jimi and SRV type tones dialed in. I'm digging your vids, bro. I'm late to the party, but looking forward to going through your catalog. Reading the previous comments, I have to say, that outside of the soul patch, you look nothing like Frank Zappa. I met him briefly in 1985.

Excellent lesson. Didn't get much from it first time around but after learning the basic pentatonic scale and knowing how to find the root notes along the neck, this is one of the best lessons available. Thumbs up!

I like how you say even if you don't like it ..use that .take it out on your guitar... attitude has much to do with playing the thing...or not playing ..cause I can't really play a guitar but I hold it and get myself out of the way ...so the music can come through ..I look at it like...hunting or fighting... I've trained till my body knows what to do...then I get out of the way and just let it do what it does...thinking about it to much will mess you up..just let it flow out..but it starts with the attitude...but gotta remember you don't rise to your expectations but fall to your level of training

For years now, the Bret Pappa meme has to have been (Bret says stuff) Clunk! The sound of pennies dropping.. "Ohhhh yeh...!" Must admit I always wondered why on the major shapes in little wing he grabbed a bunch of the next 2 frets up- you just explained it like a Boss! Props.

I love doing relative minor/major pattern shifts when doing chords and embellishments. Instead of playing an Emaj chord, it’s fun to play the C# minor pentatonic embellishments. Or making the third of the Emaj your root, so basically just an inversion. If you do it “right” (there really is no right way) there’s a lotta opportunities for hammers-ons and pulloffs, and generally embellishments. It’s fun! Great video
