Just got this brewer, love it so far. First time I brewed it came out a bit weak, but I was brewing a single cup into the the carafe. Once I figured out that it will auto sense a mug and adjust, the single cup came out perfectly

Well, I have had the Brevelle Precision Brewer for four week and I just want to tell you that by far, it is making the best coffee I have ever had at home. I roast my own coffee and we take our coffee passion very seriously. So far I have used the one cup, gold, and my brew options. We had a large family gathering this past weekend and the gold got the most votes as number one, with my brew coming in a close second. Well worth the investment.

Just a heads up. I've purchased two of these units (in Canada) and both cannot brew a GOLD cup. When the brewing starts it totally skips the Bloom phase. I received the second unit as a replacement for the first and neither work. I think I'll be returning mine. It's also worth noting that the Precision Brewer has been REMOVED from the Specialty Coffee Association's list of certified home brewers. I've reached out to ask why but haven't heard back yet - based on my experience, I suspect performance failures like I'm experiencing. Very sad but time for a new brewer!

My Breville Precision Brewer worked great for a month then when it was set on "Gold" began heating for only 5-8 seconds, skipped the "blooming" cycle, and went straight to the "brew" cycle. I got a replacement machine and it did the same thing the first time it was used. Any suggestions would be welcome as to how to get it to heat longer and to bloom appropriately before brewing.
@philmcknight7767
@philmcknight7767 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Leland, this is exactly how the brewer is supposed to work in Gold mode. SCA doesn't allow for blooming in their certification program. If you want to control/adjust blooming, you need to use the MyBrew mode, where you can control all the variables. I hope this helps.

SCA guidelines for temp are 195-205. But for a lot of people that manually brew (V60, Chemex, French Press, etc) often prefer to go up to even as hot as straight off boiling where the water is near 212 F. Are there any machines that allow you to go that high? Curious if the option to go that high would disqualify for SCA approval. But I don't think I could switch to a machine that didn't let me brew anywhere from 180-210 F. I saw in the other video on this that the hot plate keeps the brewed pot at the selected brewing temp; or can you adjust the temp it keeps it at? I think I'd prefer to keep it at a lower, ready-to-drink temp personally. It's also interesting that with single serve pour over that it holds the water back/doesn't let it drain. That's kind of the point of V60 to allow it to drain continually instead of just immersing it. All those pour over cones are designed so that they control their own drain rate (and the V60 lets you control it by changing the grind size). Holding it back means you have to grind coarser and it really changes the whole method for pour over.

Gail i have a question. Should the thermal carafe be removed from the base after brew is complete, in order to maintain temperature longer? I note that the plunger in the center of the top of the carafe remains pressed to allow coffee flow from the basket area into the carafe. I tend to think that would negatively effect the top seal of the thermal carafe. Since the base performs no heating function, leaving the carafe on the base serves no real function.
@richardmitton7618

Hi remove carafe from base as the plunger allows coffee to cool off quicker.

I have had this coffee maker for about a year and a half....the grounds are no longer wet on the outside and I have noticed that only the center of the grounds are wet and the coffee is weak. So I tried the "Strong" brewing and that did not help. I did use vinegar and water to clean the machine, but that didn't help either. I pulled out the gasket and cleaned it but nothing made it better. My grounds around the outside of the basket are dry.

I was just considering buying this brewer but I see way too many reviews about issues that happen after the first year. Some say it doesn’t brew hot anymore and others have said the coffee doesn’t get saturated. It’s a shame because I always thought breville to be a premium product.

Too complicated for me...just wondering if the thermos carafe is made of 18/8 or 18/10 stainless steel? 18/10 is fine, but with 18/8 there is a reaction between the coffee and the metal, and the coffee lands up tasting totally blah...

I'm right there with you Jasongvl. I am in the market right now of looking at what my options are to get rid of my Cuisinart Grind and Brew and step up in quality of my automatic drip coffee maker...but I just can't find any that are SCAA certified with a built-in grinder. I don't think this exists yet, which is a shame because I do like the convenience of programming my Grind and Brew the night before and pair that with the quality that comes from fresh ground beans. Do you know of any that I might be missing?

I currently have the "Andrew James Filter Coffee Machine with Timer and Integrated Grinder" but mine has had minor issues with it. But works fine now. Hi there! I have been loving your youtube videos for ages and have been studying espresso for ages. I have talked and worked with many baristas in my area but actually do not own a mashine. I am currently still in school and cannot really spend 500 or more on a mashine. I have saved up for a while and was looking at the gaggia classic. The problem, however is that I cant get the american version, I live in South Africa. I would like a mashine that offers traditional brewing and steaming methods (for example non-pressurised filter) and something that I can ask a local supplier to import. So my options are: Gaggia classic uk Ascaso basic (i heard you can remove the panerello and use it as traditional) Breville duo-temp pro I love the features of the breville but have heard many quality complaints about it. What is your recomendation for a young coffee geek in need of a quality budget mashine?

Cool, so I went in to the store to test the pour over. Here's what we found. To do a pour over in the machine, they have a separate attachment that sits between the dripper portion and the brewhead. This attachment is not included with the brewer (booooo). We tried it anyway with a V60 just sitting on top of the dripper. We did ~400ml to 30gm of coffee in a copper V60 with a paper filter. We did not measure the brew time. The output was ok. It wasn't great, it wasn't horrible. When we looked at the grounds in the V60 it was pretty under-saturated. We thought this could be due to the additional distance that the attachment would have made up for by propping it up a couple of inches. It also could do with how the water came out. Unlike a Technivorm or Bonavita equivalent, water doesn't come up in bursts it's a fairly steady stream. It did do a bloom/preinfuse but after that water just continuously dripped. My biggest complaint is probably the fact that everything is automated so you don't program the amount of coffee that's in it and set a ratio you just brew until the water tank is empty. I would guess that a kalita (usually more forgiving) could have produced better results. I will say this would be a reasonable choice if you wanted to make only 1 or 2 cups, I would probably use a V60 or Kalita instead of just asking the unit to brew a cup. But this won't completely replace the need for a gooseneck kettle to do a proper pour over. Anyways, I'll probably be back in the shop this weekend to pick something up, so if you have more questions I can maybe get them answered.

True coffee heads will not have an "auto" set because of roast>>grind>>brew flavor. I know of at least one other "drip" machine that will do the v60 method - the Behmor Connected or Behmor Brazen. It will also allow for a Chemex and a French Press to fit under the shower head.

That's not really accurate. I own this Breville, but not the Ninja. Definitely similar, but the comparable Ninja is around $229 while this is $299, so it's certainly not $200 more. I'm extremely happy with this unit because I like the complete customization available. The Ninja seems to be a very nice machine as well, especially if you want to do tea (which this unit does not). However, I like the pour over feature, which the Ninja does not have. I already own Breville's automatic tea maker, so I didn't need that functionality. However, if I had to do it over again I might just opt for the Ninja because it is more of an all-in-one machine, just not as customizable. To each their own. 😊
