If you're like me you've wondered what Elves drink in their cups?
With the release of Rings of Power and the Lord of the Rings trilogy I decided to research and attempt to brew what I think elves might drink.
Legolas beats Gimli easily drinking ale, so got to be something stronger...
I have a go at brewing my own rendition of what I think Elves would drink.

Good call on the reiterated mash!! But dude, with a beer this strong you HAVE to let it age for at least 6 months to a year. It will blow your mind how much the beer changes, that acrid flavor will go away, so don't give up on it. Congrats on the new house!
@NikitaVorontsov

That’s a fair point and seems in line with what others have been saying And thanks :)

Acrid and explosion when opened? Might be some sort of infection during the bottling process
@NikitaVorontsov
@NikitaVorontsov Жыл бұрын
See I thought so but there doesn’t seem to be anything that points at infection, no film, no sour flavour, still fairly sweet also.

Other than wine, my personal class fantasy of elves would have them drinking something light colored, highly carbonated, and high abv out of something like a champagne flute. Would also be something that could benefit from ageing since elves live on a different time scale than others. Based on this I'd say a Saison would fit the bill, up the ante by making it mixed ferm. Total coincidence but I actually have a Brett saison in planning that I'm planning to brew and age for next spring.
@NikitaVorontsov
@NikitaVorontsov Жыл бұрын
That’s actually also quite a good idea with the saison

I actually think I made a really good elvish drink...it's dandelion and orange mead, 18.5% ABV, back-sweeten with honey as well. It's now 6 months old and it's fantastic! The color is unbelievable amber gold.. crystal clear. No alcohol burn whatsoever, in fact it's quite dangerous because it is so smooth already, but I will age the rest of it even more. Next bottle I'll open at 9 months, and the final 3 will be drank and at least one given away after 1 year minimum. Something like elderflower wine, perhaps fizzy and such floral country wines might work well too.

I’ve been wanting to make a dandelion wine or mead for a while now so that sounds fantastic! Difficulty must be in just storing if that long without drinking

I made my first all grain brew. It was biased of a Seara Madre pale ale, but I grew my hops and didn’t label them so idk what hops. Anywho I had 6 gallons so I did 5 I’m my fermentation carboy and 1gallon in one of my 1 gallon carboys. I sanitize everything because I’m not a noob at making my own booz, just first all grain. Well my 5 gallon is fine, bottle day quickly approaching, but my 1 gallon molded when I dry hopped it. Oh well. Better than the 5 gallon molding.

Great video, I think maybe you didn’t need to add sugar to carbonate if leaving for so long.
@NikitaVorontsov
@NikitaVorontsov Жыл бұрын
That could be a fair point, I tried adding less than necessary but guess there was still some unfermented sugars there

I would say sit on these bottles for a year and try them again. Maybe vent the bottles too. With heavy beers I will sit on them for 4-6 weeks in the primary before packaging. I have a Wee Heavy I brewed begining of April. Tasted a bit young when I first carbed it then in July it started tasting a bit phenolic but now it is finally coming into its it's own. I just hope there is enough left when the snow hits and I need a winter warmer.

How long after bottling is this? High ABV drinks like meads and barleywines need a tonnn of aging before those "off-flavors" dissipate, but if you give them 6 months to a year, they almost always do dissipate. So maybe don't throw them all out yet?? Also, to keep the CO2 dissolved, you can chill the bottle down to a very low (but not freezing) temperature before opening it. This usually prevents explosions in my experience.

I bottled this I want to say around early May? Can't remember exactly but it was a while back. I'll keep a few bottles and hope it goes better for those ones!
