Great and fair comparison. Kyle, I have a lot of respect for how you started in this business (actually on the distilling side) and have grown it so successfully. I still have a converted cooler mash tun and ten gallon Spike kettle but if I was starting from scratch it would be Clawhammer all the way!

Hits it right on the head when it comes to being modular. I started out with the 10G 120v system a few years ago, and over time have upgraded components with offerings from various company, mainly Blichmann's Riptide Pump, and the 240v Brewcommander controller, a 5K watt heating element and a jaded hydra cooler. Still use the kettle and basket, they made brewing idiot proof practically, you don't have to worry about grain crush, you can turn your grain to flour and it won't overflow or get a stuck mash. I've thought about upgrading to other kettles like the spike solo, but I'm very happy with the clawhammer system. I used to hate cleaning the mesh basket, but the secret is to dump the spent grain and hit it with a hose ASAP.

I’m a Blichmann BrewEasy 2-vessel 240V 20g(10g finished beer) system user. Now called the Classic. They use standard Blichmann kettles which include site glasses on them. There are no markings inside their kettles. The sight glass you referred to on the other side is a flow meter…handy for flow control, efficiency, and not sticking your mash. These all look like good systems. If I had it to do over and you had a 240v system at the time, I would have reconsidered. Blichmann has been good to me though. Thanks for the video.

Sight glass could be a quick look to see the liquid levels without opening up to see inside. I know on some systems they are harder to see with steam and random stuff covering the level numbers and or lines. But for my purpose (and maybe others) to have a sight glass involved in the system is mainly to see the liquid passing through for color and clarity. Again, you can always add one after the fact to a hose or if you sell the parts to have it easily installed to the kettle… which you do sell as a tri clamp version which is easy to install yourself. I would love to own a clawhammer supply system at some point but not feasible right now. I’ve heard good things about your products and some negatives. The difference between good companies and bad are not how much it costs but how you take care of the customer. I’ve known you guys to specifically email customers to fix issues, guide through errors, and or take feedback and want/make prototypes to make changes. That’s huge! I think thats what stands you guys apart from the rest. Not price. I say that because of not only knowing a few people that own clawhammer systems but I own a system that when I received it the heating element turned on and sounded weird as hell. I emailed them and they told me it was something to do with the install of some fan of the product. And I as a consumer had to fix it by messing with some screws on the inside. Why do I have to fix that if it’s happened to many? Anyways y’all’s customer service send adaptability to make changes is what stands you on top of the rest. Love the videos. Keep up with the brewing videos always enjoy them. Y’all are doing great things.

Great comments re modular systems, I learnt that after my GF and two Digiboils failed after two or so years. I now have a modular system (3V) that is sold in Australia. They are 36 litre kettles but I no longer use them as a HLT, Mash and boil kettle. I know use one as a 2 V (mash and boil in the same kettle using a basket) and a no sparge BIAB! The second one I use more often due to simplicity of operation and cleaning. In fact if I was to start my all grain brewing journey again the single vessel 36 litre with a basket and pump would be my choice! Cheers

I completely agree with Kyle , I own the anvil 6.5 gallon all in one system and I love it !, But for the size 20 gallon I am wanting you can’t beat it. I can’t wait to order mine I been saving up. I have seen and watched and reviewed all videos on BIAB systems, Hands down claw hammer has to beat bang for the buck. And I also like how I get a fast email response from the staff about questions I have. You can spend the money for other systems but you will be happier with the claw hammer system. I plan on buying the 20gallon 240v here very soon . Like I said I have the anvil 6.5 but I would rather have the claw hammer 20 gallon biab

Kyle, the Blichmann Brew Easy Classic 20 Gallon unit can brew up to 20 gallons of wort. You can also use a smaller recipe and do 10 gallon batches. The Less expensive 10 Gallon Classic Brew Easy ( the one I own) can brew 10 gallon or 5 gallon batches. So, you used the wrong model for comparison if you want to talk about 10 gallon systems. I built my system piece by piece, but I based it largely off of the claw hammer system. 10g SSbrewtech kettle, 5500w element, Utah biodiesel mesh screen, blichmann riptide pump, and a blichmann brew commander controller. You did much better than I expected to be fair. Having owned the BrewEasy, Spike Solo, and other systems over the years, they have all had things about them I do not like (and things that I do) such as a sight glasses (what a PITA they are), proprietary components (e.g. Grainfather), etc. I’ve been interested in the Clawhammer system for several years especially since I get viewers repeatedly asking me to do videos on it. I have a unibrau system, although I swapped out the pump for a riptide and use a butterfly value with it. I think your point about the sight glass needs to have a clarification about its value. In many of these systems, you are meant to sparge rather than full volume. In those cases, knowing the volume of above the heating element is actually something I have struggled with. Another aspect is the heft of the system. The unibrau together is heavy.

@ClawhammerSupply
@ClawhammerSupply 2 жыл бұрын
We looked at the NPT models. Not triclamp models. Brau happens to not supply NPT. Also, Clawhammer, for example, uses triclamp where necessary (at the heating element connection) and NPT elsewhere. Reason being is that in our opinion, npt quick disconnect is a better option for for small scale brewing because it's a lot easier to use / faster than than triclamp.

What is the minimum amount of grain for the basket / System ? What Size is the Kettle, Diameter, Hight ? What thickness is the wall of the Kettle ? How many L of liquid can the pumpe provide (L/min @ lifting hight) How fast is the 120 and 240 V system heading 20L of weather from 20°C to 65°C and from 72°C to 100°C ? They say that the "flow meter" doubles as a sight glass. What I want to know is what's the point of a flow meter when you can look inside the kettle and easily see how much it's flowing? I don't think anyone's expecting them to be unbiased. They're a business. They do expect them to be honest and factual, which seems like it was. I've been noticing some shade getting thrown around in the BIAB world about rival systems so not surprising they are putting out a marketing video.
@ClawhammerSupply
@ClawhammerSupply 2 жыл бұрын
First, this isn't a review of the systems, it is a price comparison of "base models" offered by these companies only. Spike and blichmann also offer TC kettles but we looked at their NPT models because they offer such models and they're cheaper. Unibrau does not. That said, when we were designing our system we looked at triclamp connections and opted against them because connecting and disconnecting a half dozen TC fittings several times during a brew day felt like a giant pain in the ass. So we opted for quick disconnect instead. Hence, our system only uses one TC fitting, at the element connection, because we think it's structurally necessary there. The rest are quick disconnect.
@ClawhammerSupply
@ClawhammerSupply 2 жыл бұрын
@@51rwyatt - Yes, i've noticed that too. I understand if somebody has one of these particular systems and they like it. Or if there is something that they dislike about it and want to voice that concern. But I've also noticed some of the companies kind of ragging on each other. That's lame. There are definitely some negatives that I've heard about some of these other systems that I could have mentioned here but opted not to.

@@ClawhammerSupply I have zero insight, but IMO people tend to be irrationally loyal to whatever they spent a bunch of cash on, and in terms of vendors I suspect the pandemic created a lot of new home brewers (like sourdough) and some anxiety among vendors to capture sales even if that meant talking bad about rivals. It's way worse in other industries during even normal times so this is pretty mild.
