From the BBC Media Centre
On 20 February 2016, then-Prime Minister David Cameron officially set the date for the British public’s vote on whether to remain a member of the European Union. What followed was months of campaigning, debate, claims, and a political drama fought out in the press which resulted in the resignation of David Cameron and the subsequent Conservative leadership contest.
But what did the British public not witness? During this historic political event BBC Two had exclusive behind-the-scenes access to document every twist and turn of the Leave campaign and the race for the Conservative leadership that followed. Filmed from the early days until the extraordinary events after the vote the unseen footage lays bare the ambition, passion, strategy and animosity that existed and propelled the Leave campaign.
This is the real story of the campaign for Brexit as told by a host of key people as they lived and breathed it. The programme features a range of senior politicians and campaigners including Boris Johnson, Iain Duncan Smith, Nigel Farage and Matthew Elliott, as well as Remain campaigners Lord Heseltine, Alan Duncan and Will Straw.

Has Bob Geldof actually got any refugees in his house? He was on the front page of the papers way back in September 2015, saying 'I will immediately take in 4 families to my home (Davinston Priory in Kent) as it's the decent thing to do.' Anybody on here live near him? Can they confirm he has done so?

I remember the 1997 general election as it was the first I could vote in. UKIP were a tiny fringe party. From that to Brexit in 20 years is astonishing. Trying to dismiss Farage as some sort of lunatic was a big big mistake. Whether he's remembered as a hero or villain, time will tell - but he will certainly be remembered.

The BBC is often accused of being too pro-remain and anti-UKIP however this documentary paints Farage in a very postive light. And I say this as a UKIP member 2009-2016

The BBC is a strange machine, they have produced some absolutely shockingly biased political content and then other days you'll get the odd piece that's actually well balanced and informative. I can only guess that the good ones slip past the "team bias" editors in charge of ensuring everything they produce is pro labour. It's a shame what's happened to the BBC, they used to be respected throughout the world, in a way the BBC was something to be proud of.

I dont get all the hate for Farage, he's treated like a fascist or racist or something. I don't see any of it. Disagreeing with him is one thing but all this vitriol is ridiculous, and it probably helps to keep him prominent. He makes good use of his enemies.

Anyone opposed to the status-quo i.e unlimited immigration, multiculturalism, EU hegemony, is immediately cast as a xenophobic "Little Englander"... That has been an agreed approach by those welded to our continued membership of the EU for years. Any debate, however, reasoned or even mildly questioning that challenges this "accepted" view as a given, is pounced on and those advocating something different are attacked mercilessly. It is done basically to try to close down any debate. It's also counter-productive because genuine racists can play a victimisation card and garner underground support for their odious views.

Love Nigel: "A Pint of Farage please" Nicholas Soames comes cross as an arrogant, sneering snob. No doubt he doesn't notice any of the issues that other people refer to because there is no evidence of them in his London Club. It is interesting to see the views saying that David Cameron was a Remainer, so he couldn't possibly lead the process now. So they selected another Remainer. What a mistake that has proven to be. What a farce. Gisela Stuart: " They won a great victory then threw it away" Moral of the story: never trust the devious and self serving Michael Gove. He is devoid of principle and is not to be trusted. He is the truly toxic one. He will always be remembered as such.

The great thing about the internet is that all of the stupid comments, false assumptions and other garbage spouted by politicians and others in the media is always just a few clips away. A good example here is Soames saying that Farage is 'all washed up'. If the country doesn't crash and burn then in a few years time we will be able to make some great video complications of politicians making stupid sound bites about what will happen and how bad it will be...

Nicholas Soames, .... wrong again! This man thankfully is out of British politics! I think his grandfather, Winston Churchill, would have admired what Nigel Farage has succeeded in doing for this great country, forget political parties, think of the result of this so vital referendum. I really can't see Winston agreeing to his country being part of such an undemocratic European outfit which is mostly led by the Germans and French (in that order), I feel sure he would have voted OUT in our referendum because he would have wanted the UK to continue to fully govern itself without any interference by any outside body. Once a country has the situation where its government's decision making is interfered with by an outside body, in this case the EU mob, that country is no longer a sovereign nation. The full definition of sovereignty is given below. Many people don't seem to understand what it means. "Absolute, supreme and ultimate dominion and authority of a political state subject to no higher power, expressed within its territory in full self-government and in complete freedom from any outside influence." www.businessdictionary.com/definition/sovereignty.html

United Kingdom, the country who instead of choosing "Lead" when asked to "lead or follow" said "fuck off" and went home, proceeded to throw all its money into the sea and cried itself to sleep sobbing "its all the EUs fault! How dare they make me abide by rules I myself was part of in creating?!" Made in italy is a certainty of high quality products from fashion to interior design. Yachts and helicopters and on and on Our art has no competition. Our climate is lovely. Get informed . Our government may be poor the citizen are not. Italy has problems but we're part of the EU and even this government want to change the EU from inside. Comparing Italy with greece it is an ignorant statement. By the way , when you speak you put me to sleep, you're a snob. We live longer than any other Europeans due to our Mediterranean diet. The leave side claimed that it was costing Britain £50m a day to be in the EU. That was untrue and the real figure was about half that, say £25m since it didn't deduct what Britain gets back from the EU. If there are about 8m immigrants in the UK, say half of them have jobs, so there's 4m of them working and paying taxes. To pay £25m in taxes a day each of them would need to pay about £6 a day so if the jobs they have pay £30 a week in tax they'd pay the whole EU contribution.

robert kaczmarek: Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer: Nigel Farage couldn't fight the corrupt EU from outside the bear-garden and so that's why he got himself elected in 1999 as one of the MEPs representing the constituency of South East England. Ludicrous to suggest he's only in it for the money because now his dream of Brexit soon will be fact he'll be out of a job. You undoubtedly didn't think-through your comments before posting otherwise you may have realized that common sense (that trait peculiar to the British among Europeans, it would appear) hadn't figured in your logic.
