I hate that Nylander is the one talked about to go. Hes their most consistent playoff performer and he's talking like 7 mil a year is overpaid for that guy. Tavares is the one that really really kills them

Nylander literally cherry picks and only breaks out on stretch passes. Has zero defence and zero grit. Marner is elite on the pk and has elite hockey IQ. Would I take Nylander over Tavares? Yes but we don't have that option and we need a defensive upgrade and more character players.

Nylander was worth 5 million when he signed for 7. In the end it turn out to be good it was an overpay at the time and if you want to win you can’t be overpaying players

Now that Nylander’s their best winger, he’s a steal at $6.9M. The overpaid Marner not Nylander. Nylander needs to be re-signed. Marner’s money should go to McDavid if he’s going to test free agency.

Love burke hes won the cup ...so show some respect first off ...second I do agree that marner is too valuable ..that's why I'd trade him now for a boat load of things..because hes a type of player that's season valuable...playoffs hes a no show ..this is proof... fact ..trade him when u can get some stud defenceman prospect and depth

Dubas messed everything up from the get-go when he gave Tavares $11M. Sure, the Sharks were offering him even more, but that was just dumb on their part - too much for Tavares - and Dubas knew how much John wanted to play for his hometown Leafs. If Dubas had talked him into $9Mish instead of $11M it would've saved a couple of million right there and also may have helped keep the contracts for the other 3 a bit lower.

And that's not hyperbole. He's on pace and under contract to destroy every record. You don't trade that. Period. And I love Marner.

The only one who is untradable is John Tavares because his contract is so bad. I really don't get how Leafs fans can be content with the constant playoff failure, something big has to change.

Taveres is untradeable too old but Nylander is clutch when he puts the effort in. They get paid the same if they make the playoffs or not. You don't think this causes problems in the dressing room

Lol marner and matthews is untraceable? That’s why this team won’t go anywhere with this mindset. Oilers traded Gretzky, matthews is certainly traceable. Hell, if the right deal comes along, mcdavid is game. Wayne was traded on the back of 2 Stanley cup championships. Matthews is a stud, no question, but he isn’t going to win a cup for you by himself.

As I agree to some extent, Wayne was traded due to financial issues in Edmonton. They only won a cup without him and then went into the dark ages for almost 30 years. Matthews is tradable only if some team is willing to conduct a blockbuster trade that leaves us with some extra cap room but Marner is worth every penny with the amount of situations he can play. We just need to protect Marner by putting him on a line with two of the meanest skilled players money can buy

@@cahg3871 yeah I agree. In my opinion, Matthews is the one to go. He is going to want even more money and I just dont see him being driven enough come playoff time. Tavares is the worst contract but he is locked in unfortunately. Nylander's contract is fair and not really tradable as we most likely wont get fair value.

Tavares should be the odd man out. only 1 team a year can win and its so much up to luck with injuries, performances, etc. that you want to maximize your chance to win every single year. Tavares will drop off much much sooner than Nylander. Look at the bruins last year.

This aged well 😂 Burke sounds like he’s bragging by saying Nylander was overpaid on his last contract of 6.9 Mil….no he wasn’t. By the end of it, it was a bargain. And now he’s a top 10 scorer and will get 100 points this year. Typical Burke, blame the Euro. Matthew’s was getting his 14 mil regardless.

For everyone saying Tavares needs to go, you’re all obviously correct but Burke isn’t calling Matthews “untradeable”. He’s saying that about Tavares. And what he’s saying without saying is “There isn’t a team in the world who would pay his 11 mil salary for what he’s actually worth.” Tavares is, at best, a 6 mil/year player. Realistically, he’s played more like a 4.5-5 mil/year producer the last couple of seasons, and he’s evidently only going to decline. And that’s why he’s untradeable.
