Brian Chippendale is a musician and artist based in Providence, Rhode Island. He is best known as the drummer/vocalist for the band Lightning Bolt. He was a member of Fort Thunder, an abandoned, pre-Civil War textile factory in Providence, Rhode Island known as a work-space for local, avant-garde artists. In addition, he engages in a wide variety of the arts including playing in a solo project called Black Pus, drawing comics, sculpture, painting, printmaking and collage.

An artist can't have that much junk everywhere without having some discipline. Brian is the master of his crazy collage juggernaut, the mind behind this visual turbulence that looks just a bit scary. Like Jeremy's higgledy-piggledy bedroom in the comic strip "ZITS." Brian's mother likely never taught him to put his toys away. Francis Bacon, a very famous artist, always kept his studio space in a state of total chaos.

@@Glass_Caskets There is some truth in what you write. I once lived with a friend who was a hoarder, with piles of stuff everywhere. I thought he had a problem with focusing on one thing -- that and being a procrastinator. All those things are connected.

@@JonathanCr0ss I was so pissed when I found on Wikipedia that Fort Thunder was demolished to build a parking lot. The two stores it was meant to service went out of business soon after, which I like to imagine was some sort of higher power taking its revenge.

Sometimes just doing what you want will eventually lead to breaking somebody's heart. Sometimes life just falls in place that way, and you're free. But for some people like me, it requires many years of hard work and pushing against a pile of bad luck, to keep things good.

the old days in Providence sitting in front of his kick drum getting pummeled on a floor i sure as shit shouldn’t be sitting on. Favorite spot, 3 quarter view, hi hat side. i’ve never seen them play for more than a 5$ cover. mostly free shows. Hanging off a fire escape in an alley they were playing while the sounds bounce off of brick walls might be one of my favorite live music memories. we knew they were playing outside but they didn’t announce where. all of a sudden you hear those fucking drums, murdering physics like they do.

i dont think anyone should ever try to put labels onto music like that. noise rock this, prog-avant that, it makes it feel like nothing can be all or anything at once. lightning bolt is lightning bolt, hella is hella, black midi is black midi, and i think maybe labels is less for molding what the music is rather than for easy categorization if you want similar things. in the end everything is its own little thing and that makes it feel like everything is in its own world

if someone can trigger me into suicide its him.. because he is like me, and i guess like many of you, but he just believes in it continiously and keeps on doing that stuff without ever reflecting too long.. i doodled too it looked like this, i drum too but i sometimes suffer from exhaustion.. i never had the other brain though.. yet i kinda have a besty childhood friend looking exactly like him but he doesnt play bass and lives over the ocean.
