He did write, and so did Bill, but the "unholy trinity" didn't give 'em a chance. Funny how a lot of ppl say that he couldn't compose a note, but he actually composed Pallenberg's A Degree of Murder movie's soundtrack. He could write, he helped in a lot of compositions from the Glimmer Twins' music, he just wasn't ever credited for it. If you really believe that Brian was just part of the band's "decoration," then you really know very little about the Stones.

On Brian Jones period there were no Glimmer Twins and at the end Brian Jones saids that he was not sure to want a futur with the Rolling Stones.

I don't think Charlie enjoyed interviews , but this is where Brian was very good .He was important for the groups image and always responded with thoughtful answers.

Fred Montelatici If Mick was so smart, he would never have led the Stones to Allen Klein, who ended up owning all their publishing from the 60s. If McCartney had not have held out from signing with Klein, they would undoubtedly have lost their publishing too because Klein's con was to get bands to distance themselves from their income by putting everything through his companies.

First of all, Brian Jones contributed actively in Beggars Banquet, No Expectations is an example of his talent. The other 3 are good albums, but without the magic Brian used to give to the group. And don't forget Mick Taylor's contribution. You're right, he's The Glorious Founder, the magic element, the genious, the heart & soul of Stones; and yes, you must take your hat off to him.

That is YOUR opinion, I think that without Brian Jones they were never the same. I don't wanna talk about drugs because I'm a fan of their music, I don't care about their personal life. However you can't deny that the other members had problems with drugs at that time, specially when they made those albums. But let's focus on the music. I prefer Brian's era, he was and will always be the leader of the Rolling Stones. After 44 years, people keep on lying.

What is apparent in virtually all shots from Brian's time and subsequent statements on his behalf is that Bill Wyman was Brian's friend. I think Bill and him were close even though in terms of background they were miles apart. True mates that's why Bill has never let the Jagger-Richards propaganda machine get away with it ALL the time.

Keith saids that Mick and him don't goes to the funeral cause it's gonna became a circus because of their notoriety. In an other hand, he said that in his family they never go to funerals, he doesn't go for his father and his mother. But just before to go on stage at Hyde Park Jagger was crying and they had to push him.

@@Methilde Brian was only dead 2 days before. The concert was planned a month before that. It was planned to introduce Mick T as their new guitarist. They turned it around to be a Brian tribute just to save their own necks. Brian's funeral was huge. As if people would go just to see Mick or Keith to turn it into a circus. That's their egos talking.

At the time I think The Beatles were also interviewed in a now classic interview where they said they would last what two years if lucky, thats why perhaps Charlie was asked. Its not like there were rock stars on the level they became LATER in their careers. Anyway, thats the kind of question in that context of that time, that that was. .::G

I'm in: you say "Brian was a jerk-off and just see what TRS say about it." What can they say? They are lying!! Keith says, "we went to tell him he was out of the band." It was his band! You can't put a man out of his own band! Why Brian tolerated such nonsense for even 1 minute is a testament to what a jerk-off he was not! Also, Bill says "oh, Brian left the band, but we were still friends." STRANGE! Next, poor Brian dies with a man placed in his home by and connected to Stones.! THINK!

All true,and no one in his right mind could argue with that.The Jagger Richards combination is pure gold. it's just that Jones recognised the potential,and started the ball rolling.Without his insistent haggling of various showbusiness institutions,Jagger probably would've chosen the secure option,and finish his economics degree,and Richards might as well have become a petty junky thief,who pathetically sees it to this day fit,to keep kicking a corpse.

@PaulLonden The Glimmer Twins weren't too happy that the girls at the concerts were screaming "Brian" not Mick or Keith. I've listened to videos on KZfaq about Brian and Keith is pretty set on making it known that Brian had a problem. Well … the Glimmer Twins did drugs too. However, Jagger has stated that he doesn't allow "drugs" get the best of him. Richards had a drug issue and the "Band" went on hiatus for a number of years until he cleaned up his act. And Richards is still playing with the Band. They just didn't want to help their bandmate; none of them! They didn't care nor love one another like the Beatles did. RIP Brian Jones.

And that's exactly what they did. Brian didn't like the music that Keith and Mick were making, it wasn't the concept that he had when he founded the Stones. They knew what they did to him, why do you think neither of them showed up at Brian's funeral?

Comes across that the Stones really didn't like being interviewed in those early days. Bill very quiet (called The Quiet Stone) and very chatty later in life. Brian spoke so well. Loved the Stones in the 60's. RIP Brian and Charlie

Three very big personalities (Keith, Mick , Brian) with the two very laid-back personalities (Charlie & Bill) - something was bound to give! But what a very articulate group - the impression we were given - by the 'authorities' at the time (mid-60s) of this interview - was that they were scruffy, dirty and ignorant. I wonder how many concerts they've performed ... must be a couple of thousand ?

...And that's why The Rolling Stones' 4 best albums (beggars banquet, let it bleed, sticky fingers, and exile) came at a time when Brian Jones was either dead (for the latter two) or contributing next to nothing to the band due to his drug use. i meant he didn't write any hits or get credited with anything substantial. I wouldn't know. I'm not trying to put him down... he seemed to be a talented player - but just not a motivated composer. I "believe" that Brian was dead long before many of the 'Jagger-Richards' hits were written... add it up...he may have been a prodigious composer for all I know - but there's no evidence of it. plenty of evidence for the popularity of Mick and Keith's work, love or hate it.

@Ken Francis Andrew Loog Oldham (The Stones Manager) handpicked Jagger and Richards to write songs. He pushed Brian Jones out-of-the-way. Jones didn't put up a fight but accepted the chosen ones to write the songs. Brian should have stepped in and put up a fight. He turned to drink and drugs to ease his pain and loss. They wanted him out-of-the-way so what better way is there: death. Brian should have sued them for the rights and demand royalties in return.

Well, it was his band, he was the founder, you know? It doesn't matter if Andrew, Keith and Mick took over the Stones, it was Brian who hired all of them, he was way more talented than any of the Stones, musically, now about Pallenberg, she was no saint either, the woman was a witch, a druggie and a wh.r.e so it doesn't really matter what she says about Brian.

well ok... I just don't hear Keith kicking Brian ever. He's critical of some things in his book - but he makes it clear that he liked Brian most of the time. He lived over at his place for months at a time. Keiths more scathing about Mick. Nice, easy to talk sh about someone that can't respond. The Stones betrayed their founder, instead of helping him, or at least try to help him to get over his many troubles, they just took his band away, and that ho Anita,. …it seems to me like they were all torn by the reality that they'd had to sack their friend, who started the band, but who just kept not showing, and getting more and more out of it. Then he dies just after. A pretty shitty reality - and they were all young. Dealing with that and the craziness of 60's instant fame. I don't get that Keith wants to put Brian down - in the book he just points out how impossible it became with Brian's bad sides.

the other members had drug problems, but keith for example was well known for being the hardest working member of the band even when he was at his most drugged out, whereas brian basically stopped writing music so he could focus on drugs full time. there are interviews with the other band members where they discuss this, perhaps most tellingly with charlie watts since he was always a subdued personality and not much of an ego tripper, so I think it's well documented in that regard.

Keith pulled a knife on Brian trying to make him sign over the rights to the name "The Rolling Stones". Brian was murdered in his swimming pool ; I'm sure Keith and Mick knew more about it than they let on. The Stones best era was the one with Brian, after Brian left they got boring.

I suppose an eye for an eye... some of the stones have reaped Brian's genius, yet look like death in 2013- and think... Keith and Anita were real strung out on smack either right after Brian's death or before.. didnt attend his funeral; Keith didnt even attend his dads... Pretty sorry.

no, he did not contribute actively on beggars banquet. he was barely able to add one track of slide guitar. they were already planning to kick him out for his drug abuse at the time. If exile, sticky fingers, and let it bleed are the stones without his "magic" then I'm not sure what his magic was good for. brian jones fans are more stubborn than holocaust deniers. just accept it. the band's best work was done without him.

I disagree. For me the best Stones era was the Brian Jones one, after that I found them boring.

kicking a corpse? they stole Brian's [?] band? uhhh you DO know that all of the hits were written by Keith and Mick don't you? even when Brian was alive. He barely turned up for recordings towards the last year of his life. Im sure he had some good qualities but really.. ask anita pallenberg about Brian's cute habit of trying to smash the shit out of her regularly [ and losing the fight generally]. hmmm

Ken Francis You might also want to ask Keith about thumping Anita- according to Ian Stewart,the sixth Stone ,then roadie ,Keith was banned in 1967 from Alitalia airline for " stayin in the restroom on a flight from Rome to London punchin' that crazy Anita".

inventor of the Stones... made NO hits. wrote ZERO songs. Richards and Jagger are wealthy because of their songwriting primarliy. and then on the back of their hits and the resultant legend the band makes millions touring. Credit to Mr Jones - he played some lovely things. Contribute to their wealth? no evidence of that. Mick and Keith kept writing hits for decades. Brian couldn't even create one.

of course he was a talented musician... but seriously; of all the hits this band had from 62 to 69; Brian wrote NONE. in fact he didn't write a single song. played great stuff... but "made" the band famous? not even close. a great haircut - an interesting if not great player. but in terms of what made them rich and famous... hit songs - he was only part of the decoration. not the cake.
