Thank you so much for making this video. Brian Kinwald is a true legend in our hobby. Back in the 90's you couldn't open a RC car mag without seeing his name or face and I remember wishing I could be like him.

I had a few very casual interactions with Brian at races in Tucson and Phoenix. He was always a professional, polite and made time for everyone. Rest in Peace, BK.

He really was the "setup King" his mind for set up of a car is the best I've ever seen. Being a young black kid from LA in the 90's I got set up tips from him all the time at Big races. I was sponsored by Team Losi at the time running the stock division and not knowing nearly what he knows about tires and shock oil and everything else. His work ethic was legendary oh, one of those first to get there to the track last to leave kind of guys. It was definitely a pleasure getting to know him.

I remember racing RC in the late 80’s as a kid - I knew what it was like to idolize and be jealous of someone at the same time LOL Brian Kinwald, the dudes contribution to RC is so damned underrated he was an absolute legend.

When I was getting into RC about 15 years ago Brian Kinwald, Matt Francis, etc. were always talked about. I've got a XXX Kinwald buggy and it's one of my favorite cars. Don't do much track time on it but I knock the dust off of it every so often. I really enjoyed this video. I love how Brian talks about just chopping tires up and trying combinations.

I was fortunate enough to get to hang with Brian back in the day at MnM raceway. It was cool to see some of the stuff he was working on. I even got to see him help Jr develop the xxx. He was a class act. I didn't own a charger and let me use his chargers to charge my batteries all the time. I'm sure it was a pain in the ass for him but it was loads of fun hanging out and driving and learning as much as I could.

Brian needs an agent. He could be a HUGE asset to these companies, but he seems so ridiculously modest that (obviously without knowing at all, but it doesn't take imagination to take a guess...) he's not making the amount of money he SHOULD be from the companies that he's working with. Wish him the best and thanks for taking the time to get him on the show!

I remember seeing Brian drive one day when I went to a indoor track me and a friend tried to see what his secret was and it was somewhat impossible to be as dynamic as him his buggy jumped over stuff so perfect it was a no loss of speed or difference of speed over jumps so smooth that his lines were a practice of throttle control

I started fixing up some of my RC cars which I haven't touched in many years. Out of nostalgia I went to look at some of my RC car action magazines from the early 2000's. That being said, it's so weird for me to see Brian driving for Associated instead of Losi. I know he used to drive an original RC10, but when i got into the hobby, Losi, Trinity, and Kinwald were one entity.

Why you got to call him little ShortCourseWorld? LOL! He made BK Bars at MnM Hobbies. It's the most important tire. We burned down Square Fuzzies and popped wheelies. We took it a step further and it was more dialed. Kinwald flipped Square Fuzzies inside out first. Then he went to taper pins and that is what he used. The the webbing was the inside out part of the tire. When he put sauce on them, the sauce ate the CA off the sections and they blew apart. Only a guy who has 1,000,000 pairs of tires to just do whatever to them. I had 10 pairs of Square Fuzzies for the month from Pro-Line, BK had 1,000 pairs when we were on Losi. Losi would buy us Pro-Line tires for certain tracks and races. We would scratch Pro-Line off the side of the tires. Kinwald has 50+ National Titles and he did it when you had to really drive good to win! Tebo has 17, Cavi 14 and Maifield 8. I'd say he was RC first SUPERSTAR driver. He's designed almost all of your favorite car parts, tires, cars, etc. Other than Gil Losi Jr, Cliff Lett, Brian is the only dude I have ever seen who could create parts from nothing on a napkin into a iFMAR World Championship.

I remember Brian Kinwald from when he used to Run at RCH in Costa Mesa here in California!
I remember at the indoor nationals watching Brian flip a taper pin inside out and try it. The design was for bracing the rubber carcass, but the rubber compound works either way. They turned out to be more consistent, like magic. He was one of the best at looking for that extra little bit. Billy Easton is another who comes to mind. There are several who don't just accept whats available as their only option. Kinwald was the man for a long time, the battles between he and Mark Pavidas, along with Masami....wow.
