It may be an unspoken rule, but family members will all abide by it to avoid creating conflict. Denial is another factor that maintains dysfunction in families. Also minimizing or placing blame are other ways that families deal with violence, abuse, or conflict. This family is being silent because what they know and have witnessed could build a case against Brian for DV, violence, assault, and murder. Brian can plead the 5th amendment but other family members can be forced to testify under oath. When all this blows wide open, we will learn that this family has some serious problems.

Just because you are emotionally unstable doesn't mean everyone is. When our son was missing we still had to cook and shop for food and drive places. All without freaking out in public. We saved our pain and many tears for when we got home. Many people are able to behave this way.
