This is an unfair narrative. The players who played the most minutes - Brunson, Divencenzo, Hart, & Hartenstein, we’re not the players who were most injured. Julius Randle and Mitch missed majority of the season due to freak injuries. Anunoby was in and out of the lineup almost since his arrival to NY. And Bogdanovic, the 8th man in the rotation, suffered an unfortunate ankle injury in which a player landed on his foot. The media is trying to point the finger without actually knowing this team very well.

The media is looking at Thibs track record. He drove my Bulls in the ground. DRose was playing in a game late when the Bulls were up. There was no need to have him on the court. This era of instant gratification and sports needs to stop. The Knicks had a lot of injuries to major key players. They need to just run this team back again no need to add no other players you bring booker he doesn’t play defense. That means you’re too lead guards don’t play defense that is not smart. Knicks Fan here, I think Thibs did the best he could do given the injuries. I will say that he should've given more time to Alec Burks and Jericho Sims towards the end of the season to extend the rotation. Burks became a real weapon in this series. Their Rotation when healthy: Brunson, DDV, OG, Randle, IHart, Mitch, Hart, Deuce, Bogan, Precious & Burks. That's 11 guys. They lost 4 of them plus Hart, Brunson and IHart playing hurt. This WAS a deep team, they all just got hurt at the worst times. Can't blame this all on Thibs for this. Yes he should've played Burks more and that Sixers series DRAINED them. I'd love for them to make some minor tweaks to the bench and run it back with a healthy OG and Randle. Unless the Stars are: Booker or Giannis i don't really want to sell the farm for one player. I'd love for them to swing something for a Mikal Bridges (Durable, plays great D and shoots the 3 plus the ability to score 20 points).

Mikal Bridges on the Knicks roster I think would fit in so well. Like you say, plays D and can score. A bit difficult to pull away from the Nets. The roster as it is if healthy would be fine to run it back with Thibs as coach. I think they could get some reinforcements through the draft. Not sure what the draft class looks like but I'd go for someone that's played 4 years of college ball and is NBA ready.

Mikal would make us worse and wouldn’t make us contenders. We would get killed in the paint by teams like Milwaukee, Philly and the teams out west. Prior to Randle's injury in late January (when the team was already dealing with Robinson's injury and traded 2 players for 1 in the OG trade) had no player in the top 20 in MPG, the team's top minutes players were Brunson at 35 mpg and Randle at 34 mpg, no other player was playing more than 32 mpg. 35/34 MPG is right where star players play, Tatum was 35 mpg and Brown 33 mpg respectively this past season for reference and that was probably driven lower due to the amount of blowouts they had. It wasn't until while dealing with Robinson's injury and then Randle and OG getting hurt in late January while also having other players miss 1-2 weeks like DiVinchenzo and Brunson that they had to lean on players to play heavy minutes. And even then Thibs dug into his bench playing Precious and Burks more when needed. The Knicks got hit hard by the injury bug from late January on and most of the injuries were "freak" occurrences.
@Michael_Page
@Michael_Page 13 күн бұрын
Thibs always had 10 playable guys in the regular season. He didn't have to play Hartenstein all star minutes after the injuries. He's a backup center. Thibs played him like 38 minutes per game until he broke down. He could have played Precious more. He didn't have to play Josh Hart 40 minutes or Donte 38 minutes because Deuce and Bojan were available. Other coaches are able to get minutes out of "unplayable" players in the regular season. Especially plug and play players like Alec and Bojan. Jericho could have gotten some more burn. This team has talent. You guys keep acting like the squad is a bunch of bums that have to play it's best 5 players 40+ minutes just to compete. Thibs playoff minutes were just insane. He literally just played JB, Hart, and OG every single minute until they broke down. Nobody does that. Nobody. Not even Thibs. People keep talking about what Thibs did in the past but he never played anybody for 12 straight quarters before. There is a reason more successful coaches don't play their guys 48 minutes.

It's funny how some of these analysts were killing coaches for "load management" when it started to become a thing, but when a coach plays his guys, not because he wants to, but he needs to, now they're killing him. They even said that JB and JHart weren't in the top 10 in Mins per game. Jay is also shining a light on how the current NBA "star" is now. A "star" caliber player won't play for Thibs because he plays them "too much," makes them work hard, and holds them accountable? So what Jay is eluding to in words he didn't say, but practically said, the NBA "star" caliber player now is lazy and wants to do whatever they want and not worry that their coach is hard on them and making them accountable. NBA has become SOFT.

Thibs' style is what it is. Maybe Brunson, Hart, DiVicenzo and OG end up eventually losing their careers to chronic injury like Butler, Rose, Deng and Noah...but they're going to play hard, win a lot of games, make good playoff runs, AND have major contracts before those injuries come along. And on top of that, they'll know inside they truly gave it all they got and made the most of their time and talent. It's a career most players would gladly have. Even Deng ended up with a $72 mil Lakers contract AFTER his Bulls run as the 4TH OPTION, Noah got a $73 mil Knicks contract AFTER everything. I would not be surprised if in a few years that Hart leaves the Knicks in his 30s and gets a 4 yr 90 or 100 mil deal.

It’s all about usage rates. Thib was putting heavy minutes on his main guys in every playoff game because of injuries so it was causing more injuries throughout the playoffs. There’s a reason why most teams don’t do that. The Nuggets were the other team that did that on most games because their bench weren’t good enough. They ended up gassing out in the end.
@wa798
@wa798 13 күн бұрын
The Knicks are not getting any Big Fish…Thibs is 1 problem & this roster is the other. This roster outside of the 3pt shooting is completely outdated. The Knicks don’t have a single athletic Guard or Wing that can create shots. Meanwhile an up & coming team like Houston has 4-5 perimeter Guards/Wings that are athletic & create shots. Brunson is a great scorer but outside of that & drawing charges what else does he really do well? Superstars find multiple ways to impact the game & Brunson is nothing close to that. The Knicks need a guy like Ant to build around. This Front Office & Thibs chose to build the roster around toughness & grit rather than skill & talent.
@jayjay8430
@jayjay8430 13 күн бұрын
You said the whole part that the media is purposely choosing to overlook because of NYC’s media market and Knick relevance meaning more money league and TV wise. The roster is dated our so-called stars are closer to 30 than 25 and we still have no real player development because Thibs doesn’t play his bench most nights and Rose is just using his extra agent skills in relation to drawing players to NY. Where is the player development? Where is the smart drafting? When this experiment flames out (and it will) it will be said that the last real GM’s we had were Donnie and Glenn. The last player we developed was KP and everything before that has been someone past their prime is a throwaway. It’s insulting that ESPN is purposely acting like this roster isn’t old and could actually beat Steph,Jamal, Zach,Curry throw in a random 4 on any night! Never mind that 94 or 99 team ! Ridiculous!

Also, I’ve always liked Brunson, but he really became a shot hunter the last 2 games and I felt that he helped shoot us out the game early by not looking to set a rhythm to get others involved earlier. I really felt like him being left off the 1st team AS and being overlooked for Paris was really fueling him, but it started to work against him the last few games.😑 Very good player, but towards the end I was reminded of Isiah Thomas of Boston and that historic run. We all know how that ended.

@@jayjay8430 spot on! When we hired Leon with the 6th worst record & Leon turned around & hired WWW & Thibs I knew how this would turn out. Thibs doesn’t rebuild & is always in win now mode. Why would a team with the 6th worst record try to be in win now mode when they have nothing close to a roster capable. They skipped the most important steps from jump & once you do that you’re always building everything backwards. A smart Front Office would have been rebuilding through the draft lottery for a couple of years to have a young core of 21-23 y/o kids to move forward with & the make needed additions around that. Also Thibs has never built great rosters either. It’s usually 1 or 2 guys with a bunch of hard nosed scrappy role players. The things you & I are saying will get met with negativity from our fanbase but we’re telling the harsh truth. The Knicks need experienced basketball guys for a Front Office like a Sam Presti or Raphael Stone not sports agents who don’t know how to evaluate talent or skillsets. The revolving circle of the Knicks where times move on but somehow things never change.

I don't remember all the injuries but we definitely were not healthy those two years. Mitchell Robinson was hurt against the Hawks. Julius Randle was exhausted. Last year Randle was worn down and injured again before the playoffs. This year Randle is hurt in January and misses the playoffs. Robinson is hurt again. OG is hurt again because Thibs wants to play an injury prone player who was hurt before the playoffs 40 minutes a game.

Mavs rested everyone last 2 games and played the g-league team, cavs shot a 75% court shot winning their game vs mavs. It were basicly a 3 game difference between okc and mavs, while mavs starters due injuries played 150 posessions in RS and OKCs played 1700. I feel sorry for Knicks fans because without those injuries/Randall/Robinson/and Anuoby in game 6. Every sports 🏀 fan knows that the Knicks would be playing in the eastern conference finals vs the Celtics who got the easiest path to the east finals/Heat no butter/ Cavs no Mitchell games 5/6. I really wanted to see Brunson/Knicks vs Tatum/Celtics for that reason I won’t watch 📺 the eastern conference finals. Nothing against Halliburton/Pacers and I know that the ratings will be less for this series. Finally I hope all the knicks are healthy next season at playoff time and let’s see what happens.

You guys don't get it. It's just that Thibbs plays his guys hard during the game. He just wears them down during practice session and warm ups. They had no legs on the court, that's why Indiana scored so high. Look at the highlights, you see all of them running to put their hand up...not one of them jumped, not one of them were able to get there on time. Look at the highlights in game 3. You'll see the same thing in the 4th quarter. But if you look at game 5, they're jumping all over the place and they're getting to the man on time.

The Knicks roster injuries or not is a bunch of well built role players. You have to applaud the coach for getting them this far. The injuries are due to these role players mustering up the energy to play a level up - which doesn't bode well long term.

Love how they make fun of fans for being irrational...then fail to offer a rational analysis of the question. A rational analysis would look at the specifics of each injury, not just where it was located but the underlying cause. Was that cause the result of a traumatic event (ie, a collision) or the result of a relatively normal basketball move? The answer to that question would go a long ways to answering whether the injury was caused by too much wear or just from playing the sport. Another valid question is when the injury occurred...was it garbage time when the Knicks were up big? In a meaningless/important game? Those questions are also pertinent. Instead, all we have is a bunch of hypemen/pundits making fun of fans for doing exactly what they are doing (irrational, unsupported arguments).

Coach Thibs does need to expand his rotation by atleast one player. But the only injury that you can apply this theory to is Josh Hart (abdominal strain). The knicks are in good shape moving forward. If the Knicks have OG, Robinson and Randle they beat the Pacers in 5. The only 2 things they need is more offensive fire power and stay to healthy.

Not all these injuries are the result of too much playing time. Randle got injured falling down vs the Heat. Bojan's ankle got smashed when Nic Batum submarined him. Mitch's anle got reinjured when Enbiid pulled at him. OG came to the Knicks with his own history of injuries. Thibs could definitely manage minutes better but his handling of players this season is not all his fault. It's the unfortunate result of a season of players getting injured during play.
