A friend of mine recently asked me what a KZfaqr like myself likes to watch on KZfaq. And this is something that is worth getting advice on and thinking more strategically about than what simply happens to show up on your feed and tickle your curiosity. Because media is pervasive in our lives and there are pitfalls everywhere, including in Catholic media.
When you listen to someone, you’re giving them permission to propose that their thoughts become your thoughts. And in the case of media production, that isn’t a dialogue on an equal footing. You’re at a disadvantage a lot of the time because your mind has been pacified by the algorithm and the effects of entertainment and so we’re extremely susceptible to suggestion, especially by those with a, scripted, manicured, and well produced message. And So, you should be judicious about who you give this permission to.
Instead of telling you what my favourite Catholic channels are, I’d rather share with you the channels I’m happy to recommend and it isn’t just based on my preferences or my tastes. I’ve tried to come up with some criteria that help us evaluate which publishers we should be giving our attention to.

True Catholic gentleman?? 330,000 little boys in France were raped by 3,000 catholic pedophile priests, and it barely made the news, because people EXPECT that from catholics. Then he asked me to come on his channel and when I said I would, he never mentioned it again, eventually engaging in personal attacks and saying he and his team would commit to praying for me, but that he would also ignore any further correspondence. They are destructive to the faith of Catholics, offering only reasons to be constantly upset with Rome. I disagree about production quality. I appreciate work that looks or sounds homespun, and there's nothing wrong with being amateurish. Amateurism is a beautiful part of life that we should embrace. Trying a new thing and having bad production quality makes it hard to concentrate on the content that matters, so at least with new-to-me things, they need to be well done. I'll say them if no one else is: Defeat Modernism, Return to Tradition, 99 Catholics, Sensus Fidelium. Sensus Fidelium is the king right now. They're hosting their own website for video content, which is like the priests who are saying mass in the catacombs, while others just "talk about" stuff. SF took action. Fr Chad Ripperger, one of the channel's frequent appearances, is an absolute warrior of our times. Holdsworth is ignoring critical criteria for what makes good content on youtube or anywhere else: "iciness"... his recommended channels are what I would call "children of the pasture" - it's all light and warm, go to channels that make you uncomfortable and challenge you with coldness and the expression of darkness to spur. You get the same effect taking a shower; taking a cold shower is very uncomfortable, but it keeps you awake and vigilant and it ignites an inner fire. DM, Return, and 99 Catholics all have that necessary iciness.

@@kyleellis8665 That, sir, is a oxymoron. You cannot be radical and traditionalist; you can only be radical and progressive (ie insurrectionist), that's what makes you radical. The word the world should be using when people are ultra conservative is "hesitant". And hesitancy is quite warranted in our times. It expresses a necessary point of view when people get "drunk" off of modernist ideas.

I got banned from Return to Tradition after I asked if posting the lastest Pope Francis gossip again was helping anyone's faith, including his. Not surprising, but 3 polite sentences to a ban says something. Some of these channels are Protestant attitudes with a Catholic overlay. Yes, there is criticizing the Pope or being frustrated modernity and irreverence. I get it. There is also walking this journey ready to reject Peter and the vast majority of your fellow Catholics for not living up to your personal standards at any moment. Catholicism is not the 1962 Roman Missal and constant diet of Vatican rumors and semi-rebellion against the Church. Better I think to be an NO attendee who never heard about the Vatican, never spoken a word of Latin, and be on the journey of loving God and loving your neighbor.

I'd like to highlight a couple of channels hosted by Priests. Them being priest first also means the production isn't the greatest; however I've found their content to be very helpful: Fr. Mark Goring's channel which mostly consist of fairly short sermons, talks and often reading from scripture as well. It's a simple format but I've never felt like listening to him was time wasted. For Spanish speakers there's QNTLC / Que No Te La Cuenten with Padre Javier Olivera Ravasi. His channel is consists of sermons, interviews, catechism, apologetics among other things. There's also a couple of music channels that I'd Recommend: Ex Cathedra hosts a varied amount of music from various Catholic backgrounds which isn't necessarily limited to Hymns but also songs related to Catholicism from a certain place or time period (e.g songs about the Cristeros) Adoration of the Cross hosts Christian chants mostly from the Medieval era, sometimes with a focus on Templar chants. It's not strictly Catholic as it also hosts Byzantine chants (which I personally see as an added bonus) Finally I may sometimes watch SW News / Shalom World News, which may be useful as it could be the only source of news needed, limiting myself to them helps me escape gossip and the like while keeping me informed at the same time.
