Күн бұрын

Hey guys, today we're coming at you with another day in the life mowing vlog, this one sharing a little recap from Monday. We had a pretty smooth day thankfully, but that doesn't mean we didn't have some unexpected events come up!
Our Monday consists of mowing most of our commercial sites, and one of our larger residential clients that we really enjoy mowing. The property always turns out nice, so I wanted to share a little bit of footage from that house today.
Outside of all the mowing, we had to take a quick trip up to our dealer to drop off the mower for it's first 250 hour hydro-oil change. It's crazy to think that in the last 2 or 3 months we've already logged 250 hours on our new machine. It's crazy how fast this season is going.
Hope you guys enjoy the day in the life type vlog and, enjoy coming with me on our day. I love recording the mowing footage for those that like it, and sharing a little more insight to what we're going through and planning to do with our business over the next season or two.
As always, thanks for watching! Don't forget to hit that Thumbs UP!

Man from the neighborhoods I’ve seen you cut..you could charge more and cut less yard easily. That’s how I modeled my business. I started this year and I don’t take a yard for less than $40, no matter how small it is. If they don’t want to pay that then I don’t want to mow it. And I also do my commercials on Monday.

You were talking about the ideal business model. You are such an impactful pioneer in this realm. Simply offering WEEKLY service only, is such a game changer. I’m sure that whatever game plan you arrive at will be successful as you tend to think things through very well in order to eliminate the headaches and maximize profits. PS, that’s a huge yard!! My wheelhouse right now is 1/5-1/4 lots with no ditches or sidewalks @ $25-$30 weekly. Takes me 19-25 minutes per yard as a solo operator. I average $50-$60/ hour consistently this way, in my 2nd year. Last year was a nightmare. That was before I started watching your channel. Thanks for all of your helpful content and inspiration.

I watched to the end 👍🏼 I’m on my 2nd year of running my one man show lawn business. I live in a small town and only 5 of my customers have less than an acre. I do those 5 houses on Monday and then Tuesday-Thursday I do 4 properties a day. Each of those are between 1-3 acres. Mow, edge, weed whack, and blow. No landscaping and no flower beds. I’m booked up and don’t take on new customers. Next year I’m going to drop enough big properties to scale back to 3 big properties a day. It’s crazy hot here.

I have my guys mow Tues-Thurs so it's good for the weekend. My business is mainly fert, but added mowing last season and have found it to be my bread and butter. I made the mistake of being the lowball guy just to get the clients when I started 4 years ago. As Keith Kalfas always says, gotta keep expanding the top and dissolving the bottom. Kicking myself in the ass now as I slowly raise prices every year of my old clients. I did do a major pruning this past winter of late payers, out of the way jobs, shitty yards, etc per your advice. Has helped a lot. 👍👍

I don't know anymore but maintenance definitely has advantages. I would not let that go until you absolutely have to. I did commercial properties on Mondays also. I had 5 to 5.5 days of mowing. I wish I had done more of a structure like 3 or 4 days mowing and do landscaping other days but I had clients I enjoyed and did not want to let go of also. What I ended up doing is had two guys mow 5 days a week and I mowed 3 days with them. I did other things the other days by myself. Main thing is figure out where you want to be and focus on that. It is good to pick a d choose what you enjoy doing and make more money at and say NO to everything else. What you focus on expands! Keep up the great work!

@Brian, appreciate the shoutout to the guys/gals in blue. I’m 23+ retired from it myself. I’ve owned 2 different mowing companies in the past but had to sell due to health reasons from “on duty” injuries. I’ve watched you for quite a while, love yours and Spencer’s channels and you have got me ready and raring to go this fall to start another company. I miss it terribly, and hopefully they’ve got me fixed enough to tackle it again. I’m looking forward to hitting it head on this fall. Been gathering new equipment this summer for my new start. I’ve emailed Mr. Wright about his line but still haven’t heard from him. I’m interested in his stand ons. I don’t think anyone around my area carries him yet. I’m in South Central KY. So I’m looking forward to that too. But I hope to get a chance to chat with you at the GIE in Oct. I’ll be there. Already got the room and tickets. Stay safe brother, thanks for all the informative videos. God bless!

I watched all the way til the end. I’ve scaled back the last 2 years on mowing. Now I mow 1 day a week and landscape 4 days a week. I’m about to stop mowing all together , but I love that one day of mowing solitude. Landscaping so much more money and satisfaction. I had the same problem- who to cut off and who to keep ....best way to do that, what’s easiest and what makes most $. Almost all my customers are upper middle class / upper class- also, almost all of them understood once I explained my situation. I did have a deal in place with a mow guy I knew who does great work. We agreed upon a commission and I gave him 3/4 of my mow clients. Great decision - also, if there are any probs with mowing, I only have one person to talk to

3 year old video and I watched the whole thing bro! Good insight right there. I just finished up my 1st season in business, and I'm just part time at the moment. My thoughts were when I go full time ( hopefully in the next year or so), are to be a solo operator for a year or 2. I'm thinking about mowing Monday- Thursday, and then leaving Friday for landscaping (trees, bushes, mulch/pinestraw/rock), with Saturday and Sunday to use as make-up days for rain outs. Then when I grow big enough, maybe have a crew for landscaping, and a crew for maintenance. Most of my clientele and random customers tell me that I really have a nack for landscaping. I'm in hurry due to being impatient, but at the same time, embracing the process. Whenever I do breakaway from corporate America, I never see myself going back. I thoroughly enjoy being an entrepreneur and doing green industry work. I really appreciate your videos bud.

I agree. I went from 130 lawns down to my BEST and quickest paying and coolest people which at I’m at I think 95 lawns. But like you said, irrelevant since everyone should go by revenue. It was the best thing I’ve ever done. And making way more this year. Allowing more time for mulch and shrubs too since they’re really good money makers.

Watched to the end. Love the videos. We don't just offer mowing in summer. We do more soft scraping. For regular customers we mow and then offer some gardening/hedging as part of their visit. Helps get some more money for sure.

We don’t mow that many, but we do each about 7 properties a day, we do full landscape maintenance , and we do many services for our regular clients. We do our big properties on Mondays and Tuesdays too,

if there are alot of low hanging branches, sure i'll upsell it, but if there're just a few, i'll put the loppers on my mower and just *cut em* as i mow the yard. i'm tired of ducking branches.....and i just did it today, and destroyed a pair of decent gasket glasses, wrestling a ton of mulberry branches, and ended up mowing over them ( and trimming without glasses )....those little trees will be an upsell later, but i put up with it today, because the customer was having her family over tonight for a big shindig, and she's precious to me, so 🤷‍♂️ and i should have listened to myself last year about pruning my customer base, instead i picked up a route of _crap_ that doesn't pay as well as residential, at all, and did nothing but make me late for landscaping jobs, and regular customer mows 🤦🏼‍♂️🤦‍♂️ ( not to mention flattened multiple mower tires ) it was an experiment that will not be continued next season.

I use KZfaq for my daily continuing education regime. I learn more if I comment as I watch, and it lets others benefit. When I make "suggestions" I am often times "thinking it out" so to say. Never intended to say others should do this, or that. Just trying to share as I learn... ----- So, first stop at 1:33 - I had to say you are absolutely right. If I intend to watch your video, I consider the Like button a cover charge that the Channel deserves simply for putting it up. If I gain any benefit at all, I feel like I owe the Channel a Subscribe, too. I delight to do so, and believe I benefit more from the material because of it! So, back to the video...

I watched to the end. Ran into a gentleman with thirty three accounts on Sunday. He has 21" with curved shaft trimmer. I'm in a $400 truck, $1,300 trailer, 44 inch Proline, equipment defender racks from #Brians10. He said, I wish I had your setup, I said to myself, I wish I had Brian's setup. I have less than a dozen pruned accounts and still maintain full-time employment. Keep up the great video's Brian, and one day hopefully there will be Fullerton party of three, or four, or five. ;)

Went from 2 crews, 4 employees last year to 1 crew and 2 employees this year landscaping mon, tues and only mowing wed-fri. Crazy thing is I’m making the same money with so many less headaches. Thinking of going to just mowing two days a week next year and landscaping 3 days a week. Let me know if you read this comment “all the way to the end”

I am age 80, retired. I enjoy this channel because I am a retired businessman and now use a zero-turn on my own 2 acre property and I mowed lawns as a kid in highschool. I think you are correct on concentrating on landscaping, because I predict that mundane mowing will soon be taken over by robot mowers. It will be much later that landscaping will be done by robots.

Man great video. The business model is always changing. We love landscaping because we can drive so much revenue. We just keep growing mowing. Now we have 4 days a week with 2 mow crews But the landscaping is where we kill it. 3 teams out building planting and everything else. Spray is also another super lucrative end of the business. I agree 100% with what you said. Editing videos and trying to do everything else gets crazy. I watched all the way to the end.
