Hell my sister stole 30k from me and I told the cops what bank she put it in her safety deposit box, text saying sorry, and her finger prints everywhere and they said sue her its a civil matter.

Yeah that is honestly how you want to see a situation like that be handled. Having been on the losing end of stolen property I worked hard for, and then being amazed at how bad I felt when it seemed like the cops didn't even seem to care or try to get it back, I think both parties did a stand up job. Cody was right about getting as much information you can. Also going to the place without starting confrontation and having the police come was perfect - might have gotten slept on if not.. cops did a great job aswell they could see they had what they needed to get the job done and they did. 👏 👌👍

The slow response time for police is the fact that it has to be investigated. This young guy did the heavy lifting for them and THAT was the key to a quick process of getting justice. RARELY does stuff like this work out to your benefit so fast. This was a very satisfying conclusion except for the that this THIEF lied then tried to rationalize his behaviour...Forget Him!!! Search warrants take maybe 15 minutes to obtain..the officer passes it up to their supervisor who calls a judge and they explain what they got and the judge will sign a warrant. The reason why this guy didnt go to jail is because the owner of the property made it a civil matter instead of criminal meaning they came to an agreement and he didnt press charges. If you guys have anything with a vin # or serial # save that info because if its stolen thats what police will need along with an estimate of what its worth. So if they do a drug bust they will run the vin and serial #s of everything in a nationwide database and if it comes back as stolen they get charged and u get your shit back or if its destroyed its on file along with the estimate and the court process is super easy at that point. I work as a 911 dispatcher and police work isnt taking fingerprints and foot prints and hunting people down, they take reports for you incase its insured and document the stolen items incase they find them in the future. In the 4 agencies ive worked for we are always busy, so take 5 minutes to document your shit so we can find it
