While I love this set visually, hard agree on the price. All I kept thinking is that you can buy a switch lite and a Zelda game for less than the cost of this set, and that seems kind of absurd on a lot of levels.

For that price, each version of the great deku tree should have an enclosed back and hinge open with a full interior

for that amount of money it should be the entire kokiri forest plus an actual interior for the great deku tree, 300 is actually insane

The price is holding it back. People have been waiting for LOZ sets after so many idea sets being denied and now when Lego makes a set it’s $300. Absolutely ridiculous

In the words of LEGO, “The Deku Tree was the first element from The Legend of Zelda we wanted to represent using LEGO bricks.” I don’t think this will be the only Zelda LEGO set.

I feel the price per piece (PpP) is no longer valid anymore. I may be wrong, but I feel Lego is justifying overall Price with the PpP while using SEVERAL tiny pieces of Lego (i.e. 1x1's or special tiny pieces). Yes, it makes the set more detailed, but I think sets PpP need to be readjusted where small/special pieces need to be valued at a lesser price versus larger pieces which will help to drive down the overall price to make it affordable and reasonable to buy for consumers. Yes IP names like Zelda, Mario, Sonic need to be paid a little higher for the License of the name, but prices are just too high. And consumers don't help when they buy the set regardless. This set is too much for such a small overall size using several small pieces. I will pass on this.

the fact that this is the same price as a switch is actually mental. Lego / Nintendo are literally asking us fans to pay for a cardboard box with an official logo on it. ridiculous.

It's always been fascinating to me, how much minifigures are the main draw of lego for many fans, to the point there are battle packs, or those $10 ninjago gimmick toys. I've always been more drawn to sets for the build, the minifigs just being there to sit in a pilot's chair or attack a big monster so a scene doesn't feel empty. I do agree that locking minifigs in HUGE, expensive sets is cruel and lego should make some kind of alternative available that doesn't require going to bricklink or ebay.

Cheaper, modular (connectable) DnD Lego builds would be amazing. A Lego set of a Zelda dungeon with little puzzles in it would be awesome too

On the Lego store, this set is listed under its own Zelda theme, not Ideas, so it gives me hope that means we'll be getting more of it. I absolutely love parts of the set (especially the Minifigs), but I've never cared for the Great Deku Tree, and paying $300 for a build of a character I don't like isn't going to happen.

This has been a problem for years at this point. I honestly don’t know why LEGO keeps jacking up the prices of their sets besides maybe attempting to take advantage of their customers.

I'm just so happy Lego animal crossing got the "it's a children IP" because we got so many affordable sets and the most expensive one is under 100 euros. The terrible thing is these "adult" sets feel like they could be split in smaller parts and made more affordable, but this is not the case at all, this is just a great idea but in a price range that is not forgiving at all for it just like you said (usually dreamzzz reuses ALL of its pieces in a single set and creator 3in1 sets are at a way lower price range)

LEGO needs to rethink their business strategy... Appealing to the widest possible audience (i.e. making prices low enough to be affordable regardless of how well-off you are) is going to make them more money than just releasing overpriced sets for people with a lot of money. Instead of releasing a single $300 dollar set, they could instead release fifteen $20 dollar sets. Kids and parents would be able to buy them at an affordable price, but hardcore collectors would still buy all fifteen of them. All it would do is greatly increase sales! Most people would be turned away seeing such a high price tag, but would be much more open to the idea if they instead saw multiple _smaller_ numbers. I've never even gone to college, let alone taken an economics class, this is quite literally basic math and logical thinking! I'm just some average joe, so why does LEGO struggle with this?

Im so mad about this cause I adore Zelda and the builds are decent but that price is down right horrid

300 bucks is making me fucking cry totk helped me in hard moments and i would've loved something to commemorate the great moments i've had with this game, and the series in general

I have wanted a Zelda LEGO set for the past 12 years and it sucks to see my only chance to have an OOT Link is so expensive, it doesnt make sense to me because im pretty sure LEGO would make a lot more money selling a smaller LEGO set with the same characters, and this does not only apply to this set in particular but all the other unnecessarily large licensed sets.

The price is so large largely because of the incredibly large cost of licensing from Nintendo. It’s why Star Wars and the Mario sets are so weirdly expensive. I hate companies

The choice of the deku tree is kind of boring in my opinion. Decent build but definitely would have preferred a hyrule castle. Also bummed we don’t have a Zelda OOT figure and a shiek figure, potentially Ganondorf. That for me would have helped justify the price

Lego has a problem with setting up GIGANTIC barriers to entry. They do the same with Lego trains. There are no small locomotives to get you started, you have to shell out over 100 bucks right away.

It costs more than a new Nintendo Switch, which really gives me pause when thinking about how I approach my hobby. 😞

I hate to say it, but for that price I could buy one of the Switch models and a copy of TOTK and maybe also BOTW. As a Zelda fan this is a great set, however it’s not very consumer friendly. The idea behind these sets is always if it’s a single set from a license then the available money is coming from someone who doesn’t always spend money on LEGO, so you can charge more. I just hate how that can exclude regular LEGO fans. Sonic has simply been doing it better.

For the price, they should have went all out with the mini figs. Sheik, Gannon, a real Navi mold. Twilight wolf and Midna mold and a minifig scale Epona

There had to be a better way - maybe two sets at half the price that could be combined into something equivalent to this build.

It is a bit sad that Lego does a new Zelda set and everywhere I look, all Lego channels and 95% of the comments are about the pricing and nothing else. We HAVE to talk about pricing, as it is just out of hand. I think you did an extremely good job explaining how this set stacks up with other Nintendo products and why it is so important for them to make affordable sets. It is not just the major issue of the lack of affordable sets, it is also that what is offered just isn't worth even hafl the price. If you ask random people that know Lego is expensive, but aren't into the hobby themselves, they would still think this was maybe a $100 dollar set (£78.48), considering the size, the amount of pieces and the way it looks. Having its price at 3 times (!) that amount is just ridiculous. In the end this basically means you are paying $100 dollar for the set, then you pay Lego Group another $100 and then you pay Nintendo another $100, both as a luxury tax and for no value. Amidst all this understandable uproar with Lego pricing, there are good things to be found. I found this channel and the way you calmly set out your case, while staying concise and not lose your marbles at any point, simply impressed me. At least I've found a worthy channel to watch more content from, that is actual value! Thanks for making the video!

In 1999, when I was in 5th grade, I mailed a handwritten letter to Lego asking them to make Zelda Legos. I got a letter back saying no, in so many words. This is the first I'm hearing about this Zelda Lego set! My mind is exploding right now. Even though I'm old enough to not care about buying any of this stuff and generally thinking poorly of these companies and all the cross media availability, my inner child is reeling about this finally being a reality.

For $300, it needs to come with at least 1 or 2 extra ocarina and the master sword.

I can't see this is the only set for Zelda. It's such a requested theme, and if fans kick up enough of a stink about the price, I'm sure they'll bend. The new pieces are so intricate and specifically Zelda so I'm sure they'd benefit greatly for a full wave of sets

As a 33 year old former LEGO enthusiast, I stopped buying LEGO sets because they're too damned expensive. Give me like, a $50 USD lightweight version of Lon Lon Ranch and I'd be happy - if was bigger and came in multiple separate sets, I'd be fine with that and buy 'em over time. But this is ridiculous.

The price kills it! It's just so much

First of all, the set is expensive for 2500 pcs. But on top of that, this set doesn’t even look like it has that much pieces. I would have guessed around 1500-1800. It looks cool, minifigure are very well done, but the value for money is simply not there. €170-€190 would seem fitting.

It breaks my heart. I don’t care about botw just give me the pieces for ocarina of time deku tree and add the other half of the tree and cut the damn price in half cause there’s no excuse for it to cost that much. My blacksmith house is fully completed with multiple levels, the same amount of pieces as the deku tree, and cost me half the price.

The main thing keeping me from just preordering this thing rn is that I think/hope we'll get more sets. If this is our only Zelda set I'll happily take it, but if I can scratch the same itch with a set like Hyrule Castle or something I'll wait for it.

I would like to say ocarina of time is a very relevant game, as it’s most people’s favorite zelda game of all time. I have many friends who do back this and were excited to see ocarina of time as one of the options.

Wow, so the Deku Tree set really is real. But, 300?! Ouch! That's the same price as a Switch! The tree and the Koroks and various characters look great. The Links and Zelda look great. Master Sword, Hylian Shield, and Ocarina are awesome. I grew up with Sega systems and Playstation, but I got Nintendo systems once I got a job, and went back and played through all the Zelda games up to that point. GameCube was the most recent system then. My favorite game is Link to the Past, but I really love Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. I liked Ocarina of Time well enough, but I preferred Majora's Mask. If I am somehow able to miraculously get this set, I'd probably build the Breath of the Wild version. I would've preferred Hyrule Castle instead of the Deku Tree, but man, that would be be even more expensive, even if it wasn't minifig scale!

I personally love lego but the biggest reasons why i cannot own any lego anymore from my childhood is because lego is just way to expensive to even afford now. they have out priced a lot of people from buying any sets.

I've waited for Zelda Lego since I played Ocarina of Time on the N64 back as a child. I was sooo happy when I saw it but then that price..I simply can not pay 300.- for a Lego, I have a family to take care of now. I hope we get a cheaper set with atleast Link and the master sword..

For that price it should be minifigure scale and come with both versions of the deku tree And come with kokiri forest and the lost woods and korok forest also contain an underground area and also all of hyrule

LEGO could make it all right in the end if they were to make the minifigure and printed parts available on the online PAB. But I'm guessing they won't since not many exclusive parts of licensed sets are available on that service.

One thing I find wrong about this set is adding Adult Link in Ocarina of Time, when out of the 3 Child Link Dungeons, Adult Link can only go into Goron Cavern. He can’t go in Inside the Deku Tree or Inside Jabu-Jabu’s Belly.

Lego in general is too expensive these days, Every time a new interesting set gets announced it's always really expensive, This lego set cost more than what I paid for my switch, and this set would just sit on my shelf, I still play my switch

I don't think it's a stretch to say that this set is pretty much guaranteed to do well, so I'm sure we'll get more Zelda in the future. The franchise has so many games which are all extremely popular and nostalgic so there's no shortage of content to adapt into sets. Hyrule Castle is a no brainer, but then there's the dungeons which could have so much play value

I really wish Lego would stop leading the charge on new or returning themes with sets that only appeal to the most hardcore fans or adult collectors who will bite the bullet on their ridiculous prices. First D&D set is a huge display piece and costs $370. Despite the whole generic fantasy theme appealing to all ages, only adults with plenty of display space and money to burn can reasonably get that. First Dune set is another huge set costing $170 and taking up space comparable to some of the biggest UCS Star Wars sets. Though despite being clearly targeted directly at adult collectors and with a mature theme, it’s more focused on play than display. Really cool set but a horrible choice to spearhead what could’ve been a really popular line with how much hype Dune has had ever since the reboot was announced. We finally get Zelda. Another theme appealing to all ages and rooted in toys and video games for over two generations, and they make the flagship set a $300 collectors display. Mario sets were also pretty expensive, and while Mario certainly has adult fans, spanning multiple generations just like Zelda, the kinds of sets they made out of the theme pretty much only appeal to kids. We finally get a return of the LotR theme and it’s a huge $500 tower and $500 Rivendell set aimed at hardcore collectors with tons of display space. Is it too much to ask for some little setpieces from these themes that won’t set my wallet on fire? I get the mentality of selling us on a theme with a crazy all-out main course that you just can’t resist, but they gotta follow it through with some sides or else hardly anyone is going to be able to do much more than watch set reviews.

I remember as a kid in like 2005 going on the lego website and using that 3D set designer program they had to make my own mario 1-1 sets with an overall wearing minifig with a red cap and just wishing that there was real mario lego. Only a little bitter about what has finally come out now that I'm 27 years old lol

Honestly I don't know what was the decision making with this set. They should've done regular sets, just as Animal Crossing theme! When the Isabelle visit set came out it sold out in my country. I had to wait another month for it to be back. That means the license is selling well. There was no need to do such risky move with such expensive set. Even now, there will be people buying it cause it's Zelda license

I'm gonna be honest, when I first saw the set I thought it was gonna be 80 euros, I thought it was affordable and I was planing on buying it for my little brother who's a very big zelda fan, but seeing such high price really threw me off, 300 for a tree is just ridiculous, and as you said, as a yound adult it's just not possible for me to pay this much, even half the price seems a lot for this set, even tho 150 euros would be manageable.

Didn't need to be a 2-in-1, especially since you can't build both models at the same time. This should have been a 100$ set at most.

My reaction when I first saw the announcement and price was "Oh look, rich people get another nice thing." My 11-year-old daughter would go bananas for this, but she's out of luck because we just don't have this kind of money. Lego has made itself into a luxury brand like Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Rolex, etc., because it's realized that it can charge whatever it wants and people will still pay it just because it's Lego.

Its not even that you can't afford it, it's the fact they think that they have the audacity to say tiny pieces of plastic are worth so much, you'd think oh buying stuff in bulk would work out cheaper but not for lego

As more and more 3rd party brick makers improve their quality of pieces, Lego will start to feel the pinch once the Lego Fans open up to using 3rd party. I have found a couple 3rd party providers whose quality is just as good as Lego and the pieces themselves could not be determined if it was 3rd party or Lego. Sets that Lego would have sold at 300 price range were sold at 79.99. People need to vote with their wallets and let Lego know that there are alternatives out there.

It’s weird that the deku tree was their introduction set for Zelda Lego. I would like to see sets like the hyrule castle, the hyrule towers, or the majoras mask. If they want a play set they could do one for the Devine beasts.

I feel like a lot of fans & parents will have to resort to what I’m doing with Barad Dur just getting the Sauron minifigure separately & just buy the Zelda minifigures by themselves if they don’t the budget for the whole set.
