Used to make chisels for my dear old Dad from roo bar, harden and temper them. Also cut and shape the old bucket handles for a dinging iron. Nice bit of detail that man.
@BuildingwithBudd9 ай бұрын
The chisels today don’t last like they used to, I don’t know if the steel is manufactured cheaper and quality goes a bit but they definitely don’t last like they did, but pointing irons are good and last really well, cheers for watching 👏👍

Don’t see what’s so hard about laying a few bricks to a line. Brickwork is one of the easiest trades. £100’s worth of tools and few levels.
@Frenchwine159 ай бұрын
Well you should have a go at laying bricks if you think it's that easy as, I can tell that most bricklayers today are crap. I speak as someone with 47 years of experience within the trade and thousands of pounds worth of tools to do the job correctly. The current trowel I am using was bought in 2006 at a cost of £65 + VAT then. I bought half a dozen because I new they were well made by craftsmen who understands my trade properly and not cheap alternatives from the likes from high street pound shops. I personally don't like the castellation brickwork this bricklayer is doing but, give him credit for doing a very skillful job that very few can perform properly today.

Amazing skill- but is it not disturbing that we are still building houses the way the Romans did (brick/block walls, tile roof)? Cars went, in 100 years, from hand bent sheet over a wooden frame to robot assembled complex vehicles with power everything, central locking, electric windows, air-con etc. Aircraft went, in 100 years, from stick and string to supersonic, fully automated flying etc. Houses, after 2000 years, would be recognized by Vitruvius. Sad.
