Bricklaying With Steve and Alex

IN THIS WEEKS VIDEO..
THIS WAS STUPID DO NOT COPY !!..CONSERVATORY TO EXTENSION PT 9 WE GET A FEW JOBS DONR IN SPITE OF CAMERA ISSUES.
WE INSTALLED THE FRONT LINTEL INCLUDING THE 600 MM DPC FOR THE CAVITY TRAY. WE ALSO INSTALLED THE PEEP VENTS WHEN WE RAN THE BRICKWORK OVER THE LINTEL. WE DID PROP THE LINTEL BEFORE WE STARTED TO STOP ANY DEFLECTION.
WE THEN LOADED OUT THE TRESTLES READY TO START THE PIKE.
NEXT WE MOVED THE STEEL BEAM AND PLATE ROUND THEN ERECTED OUR TWO SCAFFOLD TOWERS.
WE REALLY STRUGGLED TO LIFT THE BEAM BETWEEN TWO OF US AND SHOILD HAVE ABANDONED IT REALLY BUT PRESSED ON.
IT WAS THE DAY BEFORE CHRISTMAS EVE SO NO CHANCE OF A GENIE LIFT.
WE DID EVENTUALLY GET THE STEEL IN PLACE AND RAN THE 2 COURSES OF FACE WORK OVER THE PLATE.
LASTLY I HAD A NIGHTMARE DRILLING THE BOLT HOLES INTO THE TOP OF THE BEAM BUT MANAGED WITH A KIND HELP OF JM STEEL...ENJOY

Steve, ive built extensions over 40 years, do yourself a favour and bin the trestles...they are a death trap. Scaffold the job all the way round..trust me, you will find everything a lot easier..especially when lifting heavy weights onto it. Nice video.

Those mag drills are the best. I would suggest using a strap to fix to the drill and a secure place. Because if the drill loses the magnet, or someone pulls the plug, it could jump out and drop to the floor. Also a drop of oil on the cutter will keep it cooler when drilling.

I did 40 years of Construction.... you need Lubrication on any metal drilling... or you risk dulling your bit... i use a metal drilling tapping product..comes in a tube and is like thick grease ( even in a tube like grease ) at normal temps.. works fantastic for any drilling or tapping need..i use it on self tapping screws too ... stops snapping off ( i usually predrill a smaller hole first on thick steel )... i use it on my metal bandsaw too in the shop.... also on my saw blades when cutting Aluminum ( it works on any metal )... i buy it from an Industrial supply .... last many years.... well worth the price ( used to be fairly inexpensive )... saves bits , hole saws and metal blades / Carbide ( Aluminum cutting )...so really is worth any price... when i drill holes like that i use smaller bits to get to the finished size....it is faster and easier on my drills and me... i start with 1/8" use a 3/16 or 5/16" next and progress at what worjs best up to finish size.... i slow down speed too as that burns the bits ... change to my 1/2" Drill at bigger sizes of bits and be careful as it can grab and break bit or you if careless.... slowing down saves time ...and hospital trips... 😂rarely needed a mag drill ( they were expensive in my times ) but they are also pretty good to use... you should wipe the water off the steel ( use rags or some way to blow it off or heat gun ) as that can cause it to slip easily... and hold it in case it does or you can drop it down.... i usually make some kinda jig if multiple holes to hold it solid ( usually a quick and simple jig is all you need - i save it for another use if possible..but anything handy is fine - a couple clamps and you quickly are zipping your holes done..)... i did many large structures and usually up in the air - Commercial signs ... 👍 🇨🇦🤓🤙

Grafters, the pair of you. Frustration with things outside of our control can be so damaging to our stress levels, we just lose our rag now and then, and take it out on someone or something that doesn't deserve it - human nature for sure, but not nice. Easy for 'outsiders' to pontificate and repeatedly say 'Chill', but outsiders don't have you bills to pay! Just do what you can guys, that's certainly good enough. And the quality of your work is second to none, be proud of that. And, finally, Spring is hovering in the background, with a promise of better weather, longer days and a smile on everyone's faces! Keep well, keep safe - and thank you for the uploads!

Cheers Dave permanent pain doesn’t help with stress . I’m struggling so badly now .😔. Great to see daffodils and snowdrops everywhere at last . I love spring, I was desperately hoping to be fixed in time to enjoy it . Looking like I will be out of action at the best and busiest time to be at work. It’s really not fair , nearly 7 months since first pre op 😔😔🧱👍🏽

That's a bloody shame Steve. Been there last year with left knee , waited 3 years after initial pre-op, didn't have to work through the pain as I'm pushing 80, just sat in bloody armchair - then got a call out of the blue, so who knows, you might get lucky and get a cancellation call. Feel for you Steve, and then of course Alex will be feeling stress as he's going to shoulder a lot of the work when you do get it done. Keep smiling mate, or wincing when the pain grabs you!@@SteveAndAlexBuild

Rotabroach drill bits are good but if you got a set of HMT bits and looked after them with plenty of cutting oil would probably last you a good few years, but expensive bits. Or Invest in some rocol cutting fluid can make cheap drills last a long time. I’m a steel fabricator so I do a lot with the mag drills👌🏼

Use a genie SL10 lift with fork extensions I suggest you do a risk assessment on lifting steels….if you did, you would do it manually - think about it, if the steel slipped you could up with a career ending injury Anyway a genie lift would do the job in a tenth of the time

A polite message to any Trolls, who are thinking of dropping in and leaving a silly comment. Please don`t - just quietly walk away from the video and go watch something that is of more of interest to you. If you leave an arrogant/rude/ridiculous comment - you just highlight your own stupidity & ignorance. Bye trolls 🖕🖕👌👍👍

The one thing that really gets me going today is an unsafe site like this. When it goes wrong and someone dies or ends up in a wheelchair it's no good saying I'm sorry. And before you have ago to justify it, think about what you'll say in court or to the family who's been left behind 😢

Jobs looking well advanced 👍 Steve, i hate giving advice but ive drilled countless holes in stainless over the years and swear by Rocol cutting oil. Its excellent at preserving cutter sharpness and comes in a handy squeeze bottle. Shame your still waiting on the hip job. 🥲
