I gotta rewatch this show. I remember being a bit disappointed by the direction s3 went. I remember wishing they stayed in the parks for the most part and getting out and explaining what was actually happening would be a natural end. Again, I haven't seen it in a while but I remember feeling like they got away from the core show that we were watching in the first 2 seasons

Excellent breakdown. I love every season of the show it's following the premise of both films, the first with hosts turning on the guests and the second with replacing humans with hosts. Am committed and in for the long haul. Hoping it doesn't get cancelled like Raised by Wolves.

Great job! I disagree with one point, Maeve. The main reason Maeve helped Serac was because she is not awake. She is stuck in her 'i must be with my daughter' loop. Serac used this to his advantage and was able to manipulate her. Once Maeve broke from her homesteader she chose to save Caleb. Up to that point, Maeve was operating within her loops.

oh wow. haven't watched yet, will do now. but just seeing the title gave me anxiety, this video couldn't of been easy hah. Season 3 was so convoluted. I've watched it twice and I really couldn't easily summarize half the plot lines or attempt to have them make total sense in my own mind. This will be helpful for season four. Thanks!

I consume a lot of Westworld content. This is a great video. I'd say that it's less about libertarian free will, though, than it is a mythological epic about the nature of sentience, the human condition. Our consciousness and intellect create a tension within our minds: the need to survive in a universe of scarcity can cause us to act in ways that change us, ways that make us lose our awareness of Being qua Being (not to get TOO Heideggerrian). Dolores chose Caleb because he MAINTAINS an orientation of "goodness", and his ability to "choose" is ancillary. Free will is not a good thing, implicitly. The free choices made by MANY people are deleterious to others, the world, and themselves. In this way, "will" and intellect are really just the first Technologies we use to affect the world around us. The way we affect the world around us is based on our underlying axiological hierarchies, ie what we value, what we want. Caleb is chosen because he transcends the base, selfish, tribal, and barbaric drives to which so many people are beholden. Basically, Westworld is the story of the children of Cain vs the children of Abel. But as we see with Charlores, EACH of us can be in either one.

4:20just a random question as im watching this recap. How do you predict the past with certainty? And does the show actually say this is what Solomon could do? Still trying ti decide whether to bother watching Westworld 4. But as somebody else said, will the makers "figure out how to break Westworld out of its loop of convoluted storytelling and cheap twists. The show is due for another reset-let’s just hope it’s one that can start providing answers." Jeez ive still got questions from westworld 2 that i havent been able to get satisfactory answers for.

I liked season 1. *Loved* season 2. But I was very very disappointed with season 3. I could never get over (and I still can't) how ludicrous an idea I personally think "Rehoboam" is. I just personally believe such a concept (a computer that can manipulate...."everybody") is beyond impossible. It's absurd. And so it was very hard for me to get into anything else going on. I did like the first couple of episodes. I really liked the corporate intrigue, the scenes with John Gallagher Jr. and Pom Klementieff. But the more the plot focused on Vincent Cassel (who I think is an excellent actor) the less I cared. Again, I think the idea behind his entire character is just ridiculous. And unfortunately the Aaron Paul character I didn't give a damn about either. I actually guessed what his "twist" was going to be, and I do not ever guess twists. That is not my skill set. Maybe I was so bored with the story, my mind was able to wander off into other directions like that. Not "excited" about Season 4, but I'm curious so I'll give it a few episodes. Hoping for the best.

Thanks for refreshing my memory it’s been like 2 years waiting. I had problems with Caleb and was like why would Aaron Paul play this really what I perceived a weird weak character that I just couldn’t get into or sympathize with but with season 4 oh I get! He’s the key! Thanks for the recap! It is great and reminded me how fun the series is. Ok season 4 is a lot like Maxtrix Resurrection but as much as I love Keanu I think Westworld season 4 was much easier to follow. Maybe I can watch Matrix 4. I’m kind of surprised the Westworld writers came really close to mimic Matrix Resurrections almost beat by beat (except Lawerence Fishbourn the Bowery king? Maybe Teddy?

As weird as it sounds, Im enjoying your recap more than I enjoyed the actual season. Idk, something about Season 3 wasnt enjoyable.

Such a great video so many of my questions were answered, I truly love this show and can see how some people may default to not liking it due to so many twists the show makes, in my opinion this is a show you have to pay attention or else you'll get frustrated and just hate it which in the beginning was close to happening with me so glad I stuck with the show.

As soon as Christina appeared I thought she was human. That was my initial feeling and I still think she is human and predates the park. Perhaps they built a game first and then created the park. Maybe the game was testing the storylines for permutations.

Population collapse in 23 years obviously wasn't misdirection if you've seen season 4. This was a great recap though. Ty for doing it 👍

The third season was a complete disaster. There is no contrast between the violence in the parks and the real world. Even the smartest people with endless ressources or hosts jump from one gunfight to another. The density of pointless action scenes is very tiring. In the first season, many viewers wanted the hosts to be freed. Some characters were very relatable. In season three, everyone is a killing machine. If no one dies for good even in the real world, the show loses its suspense.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMM that's my mind blowing. Here was I thinkig season 3 was bad, and it was just be not being smart enough to see the big picture

So basically this is all based on "real life"...Hollywood is so good at predictive programming.

Season 3 and even 2 are disappointing continuations of an amazing 1st season. I loved season 1, really disliked season 3. Season 2 was confusing, but it had a few good elements.

I confess, I gave up on this show a long time ago, yet I also enjoyed its weirdness. If Raised by Wolves, another really weird show with tons of money thrown at it was scrapped, I have to wonder why this show is still able to keep going. I can't be bothered to re-watch.

Westworld explained: Grew up watching the original movie, loved it. Something about 70s sci-fi, even though they were relatively low budget, no special effects (sometime stop motion effects), but were usually written well. So, I was hyped about the remake. First season was great! Stuck to the original premise with nice modern updates to keep it interesting. Then what happened? Did they fire all the original writers? Westworld explained: After season 1 it was a disaster! Season 3 was the worst!

Oh my, what a disappointing season. When the theories are exponentially better than the actual show, the writers really got the show wrong. Rehoboam and Serac did not do anything. They were outsmarted by childish moves. The heavy use of montages was boring. The action sequences were dull. Rehoboam and Serac seem like the dumbest villains, how did they conquer the world? Where was the conflict? I was expecting a chess match and got Dolores playing solitaire with hints activated. However, I have to say that all the youtube parodies of everything that do not make sense this season (Serac speaking better Portuguese than the president of Brazil), made the show worth it.

what a mess. tonally, thematically, scope-wise...everything is different and has no connection to the previous two seasons even if formally that is the case. This is an entirely different story.
