For years I have drank morning coffee at River Roasters Coffee on the back deck/patio enjoying a cup and the view of the Siuslaw River Bridge fron the up river side.Very pleasant enjoyable time.

Thank you for this video. Am planning a trip along the Oregon coast and afraid of both heights and water. Your video has allowed me to be able to see that I will be able to drive Hwy 101 along the OR coast.

Exciting to drive northbound over the Astoria bridge, in a 40 foot motor home towing a car! That steep drop will take your breath away! Don't take your eyes off the centerline!

Well done! Very informative. As a coast resident I’ve driven over them all.

I love our coast bridges. I've crossed most of them, but I still have three to experience; the two bridges closest to California and the Astoria-Megler. Conde McCollough was both an excellent engineer and artist. My favorite is the Yaquina Bay because I love Newport and it gets me to Depoe Bay, which is my very favorite coastal town, Thanks for showing me the drive that's on my bucket list, but I want to do it from north to south.

All of the McCullough bridges are my favorites and then the Astoria Bridge. It’s always so cool to cross that bridge!

It's hard to pick between all of them. He did a great job designing the bridges!

@@InterstateKyle The only thing McCullough didn't design for, because he could never have known back then, was the potential for the Cascadia Margin to slip and create a megaquake and tsunami. We've only known since the late 1980s about the Cascadia Subduction Zone, but now that we know, these cantilever bridges with their slight structures are _very_ susceptible to collapse from the megaquake. Probably not the tsunami so much as the shaking. Retrofitting them I think is out of the question; the costs are too great. We're just gonna have to wait it out and hope none of that happens in our lifetimes. I think the Astoria-Megler Bridge is particularly susceptible to damage or collapse from a megaquake, just on account of it's so high up where the shipping channel is. I'm left to hope that we don't find out the hard way.

Wow, great memories of the Oregon coast. Coquille is pronounced "Koh-Keel."

Great idea, thank you. My favorite is the bridge at North Bend. There are certain times of the day and weather conditions that provide a glorious visual at this bridge. I’ve often thought of stopping to take photos there, yet haven’t as I am typically working during 99+% of my transits. Btw…Coquille is pronounced “co-keel.”

I’ve been over all these bridges before. It’s an exhilarating drive. But since I’ve moved out to the Southeast, I’ve found that Louisiana is the king of the bridges. The Lake Pontchartrain Causeway is a must drive for any bridge lover, at a whopping 23.8 miles. It’s the longest continuous bridge over water in the world.

I travel the Astoria-Megler Bridge frequently, as I live in the Portland/Vancouver area but have a beach house on the Long Beach Peninsula. It initially freaked me out, as it's only two lanes and quite narrow, and when you get up to the top where it's 200 feet above the river, you can get a little acrophobic. But after taking the bridge numerous times now it's not as intimidating. I agree, the north stretch of the bridge is more of a causeway than a bridge; but it stays above river level the entire way and is plenty high enough for fisherman to take their boats along that stretch of the bridge to fish, and they do quite well in that area as the river is very shallow there.

Yaquina Bay Bridge near Newport is my personal favorite bridge. I often go out to Newport with my sister and her family whenever I'm in town since they live near Corvallis, just up Highway 20. My favorite experience driving across the Astoria Bridge was once when I drove across it in heavy fog. Once I got to that long straightaway section heading towards the Washington side, I couldn't see the bridge anymore in my rearview mirror or see the land on the other end of the bridge. It was like driving on some strange highway out in the middle of the ocean, it was interesting but very surreal.

I haven't had that experience yet. Been over the Astoria-Megler Bridge several times but it was always either crystal clear out or overcast; never fog.

There are as many pronunciations of "Siuslaw" as there are letters in "Siuslaw." I heard another one today where it was pronounced SHOO·slahv. I'm sticking with my long-held pronunciation of SYEW·slaw ("you"). I've lived up here 35 years, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. _Yours_ is probably the correct one, though.

Yeah, I can imagine the different dialects over there too. Definitely had to research a few pronunciations before doing the recording of this video!

Not to nit pick, but you forgot the bridge across the "D" River in Lincoln City. 😏... 😂

That bridge has no historical significance. All these bridges here have a Wikipedia page about them. If it doesn’t have a Wikipedia page, the bridge to me is not worth mentioning.

@@InterstateKyle until a few years ago, It was a bridge that spanned the shortest river in the world. While its bridge may not be all that noteworthy, the fact that the river it crosses held a Guinness world record kinda is... and it has a Wikipedia page.
